Me too mate, it comes from early wars, the remaining soldiers or warriors would have to decide to fight an overwhelming enemy or end it for themselves (hence it being thought of a cowardly act). That’s no longer the way to think about it, I’ve felt the need for it to end but couldn’t do that to my daughter, I’m soo happy that i didn’t Ive had soo soo many bright, light days since. Suicide isn’t the answer, it’s the question it’s the topic we should all be talking about this openly no one should feel like a coward for thinking about it but you should definitely find the bravery to talk before you do anything, what have u got to lose if ur on ur way out anyway, If u can’t be happy be hopeful and if u can’t be hopeful just try to talk to someone first, love to all x

@@creetan9997 There is different types of cowardice, that's what I'm saying, so who is anyone to judge why people make that decision? Chris and Chester gave everything for their fans and their art which is more than most people have the balls to do. Depression is a debilitating illness and when it grabs hold of you no-one knows what kind of pain you are going through. People who call others cowards are just projecting their own weaknesses by taking easy pot shots at someone else's problems.

@@richalderson6069 Screw his fans, he had family. A wife and kids. He has caused them just as much pain as he went through. Why would you wish that pain on anyone, especially after experiencing it yourself? Either he was killed, because I heard he was close to uncovering a large pedophile sex ring that involved powerful people, or his suffering was so much that it alter his mind and thinking but if it got to that point it would have been noticable to the people close it him. Or he cared more about his pain than the pain he would inflict on his wife and kids. I would rather suffer and live my days than to have my family experience just as much pain. And that's exactly what I'm doing. Sometimes I wish I had no family just so I could stop existing.
@richalderson6069
@richalderson6069 4 жыл бұрын
@@creetan9997 Well if that pedophile sex ring story is true ten it would have definitely caused him huge mental stress knowing what trouble he was going to get into. But also, his family may have already been suffering due to his depressive behavior and he didn't want them to have to deal with his issues and put them through any more turmoil so that's why he made such a decision. It's like Robin Williams, he was clearly going to end up a huge burden for his family because of his lewy body dementia so he decided to spare them and himself from a long struggle having to give him full time care eventually.
@creetan9997
@creetan9997 4 жыл бұрын
@@richalderson6069 Robin Williams is not a good example since his family isn't dependent on him and none of that matters if their family loves them. If they were really that much of a nuisance to their family they would have separated and cut off communication with them. Plus if you truly love someone in no world would them being gone be better then whatever suffering they are causing you. Unless of course it's pure physical and mental abuse.

He's so genuine and always willing to stick his neck out to help ppl who aren't as fortunate as him. He knows it too and that is even more admirable. That's what made Kurt Cobain so cool. He knew he could use his spotlight to help ppl. Ppl don't always get it but maybe they're not supposed to. What matters is the effort made to make situations better. Life doesn't offer a lot of solutions. So to see him be so genuine in an industry full of increasingly plastic ppl is really awesome. And yes I too was brought to tears.

They are weak, mentally. So wouldn't it make sense that some resort to weak behavior? It is cowardly. But that doesn't mean they don't deserve help. People look at cowardice like if it's always purely self voluntary. All those people are less than. All those people are cowards. They are weak. Not for suffering through it but for doing something they know will cause tremendous pain to others that love and care about them. Addiction is different. They brought it to themselves. People who actually suffer from mental illness didn't. People who struggle with addiction can come out of it. Not all people who struggle with mental illness can. And I say not all because the mind is not a byproduct of the brain and can sometimes alter the chemicals in the brain.

For their sake I will endure.

@@creetan9997 the problem with your statement is assuming depression, anxiety, or addiction is a personality trait which would inherently make someone weak. It's literally a physical thing in their brains, a lack of the right neurotransmitters. Yes, it does have psychological and behavioral implications but it's not their fault (maybe besides addicts, but even then lots of addicts use for a reason). I'd argue that suffering from these disorders would make someone stronger, because they have to learn to deal with everyday things in life that normal people have to deal with on top of having a disorder...something they cannot help. So no, it's not necessarily "weak". I do get your point, but I have to disagree.

I’ve never believed the “cowardly” BS. To me, Suicide takes a lot of guts to know that that is it for your life and there’s no turning back. To do it whichever way and it not be a cry for help and it’s the decision you made. Those who say it’s the cowards way out don’t know what they are talking about and don’t know true pain, otherwise they wouldn’t say it. To call it brave is weird but definitely not cowardly. To make that action that’s completely final…..whenever I hear that I get so disgusted, defended and protective. Along with the complete s**t that they go to hell. No. That’s not true. Criminals do; those in true, enormous pain do not get sent for more or they wouldn’t do it.

Losing Chester wrecked me, man. I felt like, he understood me not only through his music, but through interviews that he'd do just like this one. The most memorable, was where he described depression and being stuck in his own head, as being stuck in a bad neighborhood where you just don't belong. I love Corey just as much, and to see him stand up and stick up for Chester, brings me a sense of peace. Chester suffered for years, for many different reasons. Depression comes in waves. One minute, you're okay and the next you're not. Sometimes, you feel just okay enough to make it through the day and even that is hard enough. When it gets so bad that you feel like you can't go any further, it's painful. To call suicide victims cowards, has always seemed pathetic to me. To hurt so bad that you feel the only escape is suicide, it's a pain that only some can understand...they just want peace. You can't call someone a coward, for wanting peace.

I was diagnosed with depression and had 2 close calls the past year where suicide was planned but I got help before I attempted anything. I remember my mom telling me that if I did ever commit suicide she knows it wasn't me but my depression that killed me. People who say those who commit suicide are cowards are clueless. We don't want to die we want our pain to end and in a time of deep sadness death is the only option we see fit as a way to end our pain. It's not like we want to leave our friends and family and put them threw a funeral or mourn our loss. We just get tired of being in a state of sadness the meds sometimes makes it worse so sometimes the only way out we see is suicide. Chester was one of those who fought but it became to much. That's always a fear I have I fear one day somethings gonna happen in my world that I won't be able to bounce back from and I fall victim to the epidemic of suicide. It's a constant fear people like myself have and telling us to just suck it up makes those feelings 10 times worse.

better put out an APB for that MF depression because it is a serial killer and you better arrest all of the mental health providers for being accomplices to murder. depression is likened to a gun in that they are both catalysts. if we do not control guns and depression and are honest about their danger then they are very dangerous. if I never talk to anyone when I am depressed or call 800-273-8255 or find a therapist to help develop coping skills then I do not have enough bravery making me a coward.... also only a coward would say "depression murdered them"

Depression changes the way your brain works, if they weren't diagnosed with severe depression they would snap out of it and not do it. I'm sorry, but people who refuse to understand are both callus and willful morons. It's their own moronic ego that makes them attacked people who are depressed. They need to believe they are somehow better and more powerful than others. For that reason I no longer care about them. When they suffer themselves, I'll just tell them to go fuck themselves. I posted this in reply to someone still calling it cowardice, but it'll likely be buried so, I'm putting it out here: If you've ever gotten to the point of being suicidal, you would know that towards the end, those people you're going to leave behind are on your mind the most. I remember crying tying the noose around my neck, thinking how much better off my family would be once I was gone. They wouldn't be burdened with paying for me to live when all I wanted to do was die. You try and try and try to keep going for them, but eventually, the depression tells you they'll move on, that it hurts to leave them behind, but they'll be better off without you. Sometimes your brain tells you that none of them really know you or that none of them care about you. It's not rational, but mental illness doesn't care about rationality. If you've ever felt what it's like to hang yourself, you wouldn't be so quick to call it cowardice. Your head feels like a balloon being inflated until it's about to pop, your tongue desperately tries to crawl out of your dry mouth, your throat slowly crushes in on itself. It is horrible. But in the moment, all that pain, it feels worth it as long as it means you can finally escape the emotional pain. Please, study up on mental illness before you decide to speak for the people that died from it. Suicide is not the answer. But the people that believe that it is are not cowards.

It is a long road, and not an easy one, but I promise you, your little girl is not better off without you. A parent who understands that type of pain will be the best ally when your kids are going through similar emotions. I was lucky and the strap I used snapped. I am still not completely better, but I am grateful I didn't leave this earth. I have not yet found the right combination of meds that work for me, but I have found that the survivors of suicide attempts support group I am in has been immeasurable in it's benefits. It helps to know how many others have gone through similar pain from all different walks of life. The same things may not work for you, but I hope you will keep searching. @slimkt
@slimkt 7 жыл бұрын
I'm not saying suicide is brave. I'm saying it takes a lot to get to that point and actually do it. When your basic instinct to survive (which FYI, triggers even when you're literally dying) is overridden by the amount of pain you are in, you have fought tooth and nail. And the battle against your own mind before one gets to that point, facing that fight to stay alive even under the incredible weight of your agony is brave. Calling people who feel like they can't go on anymore cowards doesn't help anyone possibly going through the same thing. It makes them feel worse and can stop them from getting the help they desperately need.

@@zz-ef4lg I have the same issues and honestly I lot of the time it makes things feel pointless, you have a good day or more likely a good hour or so and then you get hit with this crushing sense of loneliness and fear and it feels like even trying to get better is a useless task that you'll never win. The hard thing, especially with depression, is that it tries to convince you that you're not really sick, and that all the problems your having are your own fault, it convinces you that you're wrong and stupid and useless and that the only way to stop feeling that pain or hurting the people around you is to take your own life. There's a really great poet called Neil Hillborn who talks about his experience with bipolar disorder and describes his suicidal thoughts as "a glowing green exit sign for a play that's never been quite bad enough to leave" and i think it's a good analogy, you're looking for a way out but the only exit you can see is the suicide door but you also know that you can't come back and see the end of the show if you go through it which is what makes a lot of people hold on. I don't know exactly Chester's feelings but it does really take hitting rock bottom to make that choice, and you make it because you genuinely think that it's the best option, not just for you but for the people around you because you start to see yourself and your illness as a burden. The cycle of getting help and then falling back into the pit is a common one and it takes it out of you until eventually the idea of going through that cycle again is too much. Chester was a great dude, he was sick and scared and still managed to do so many things that helped people, Linkin Park along with a lot of other bands are what made me keep pushing, without them I wouldn't have gotten through high school and to the treatment I have now. I miss him, and i'm sorry that it got so much for him.

I agree with Mr. Taylor, it was immature to think that. Depression sucks. Suicide sucks, and it sucks more that it is not always preventable. The signs are not always there, and when they are not, it is up to that person who is having unfortunate thoughts to reach out for help. There is no shame in reaching out, and unfortunately some of our society thinks that, for some reason - influenced by so many external factors, that simply reaching out is cowardly; so where do we draw the line? You are not alone. Please do not allow these thoughts to consume you. People care, let's help one another and figure out how to navigate shit-times together.

I attempted suicide before, and I know what it's like to feel like life is not for you. When it hurts to live, physical and psychologically hurts to live, a person can see death as relief. The reason you shouldn't do it, shouldn't take your own life, is because you are robbing yourself of the opportunity to turn things around for the better. We are blessed to have those particular people who care, who aren't obsessed with apathy, the people who lend their ear and open their heart to hear you out.

But thanks to friends, family, and a Dr. I'm able to get up and strap my boots on.You don't know what's happening until you have information. Depersonalization is it's own nightmare that could have finished me. Call someone, go to the ER, just don't fucking do it. Don't numb yourself with harmful / illegal drugs. YOU MATTER!!!!

Very well said by Corey. The word coward is too disrespectful to someone who has done so much for the industry, probably saved so many lived through his voice. Suicide to me is not a one day phenomenon, that you're feeling bad today or probably someone said something bad to you, and you immediately decide take your life. It's not as simple as that. Suicide is a consequence of something very deep, inner self feeling that has probably been haunting the person for his/her entire life. It's very difficult to find the motive behind people committing suicide, hence sometimes people come up with some simple and easy reasons like break up, losing someone, probably losing job etc. While it might be true to a fraction of their drastic decision, however it is not the one and only reason at the same time. Depression is a mental disorder, we all go through at least at some point of our life. But, there are people who suffer from depression throughout their entire life. It kills one's self confidence, belief, will power, basically negativity wins over positivity and so do their minds. We ourselves might be a victim of the same in future, may be our relatives or friends are already the suffering the pain. Labelling them as coward is actually a very simple and easy way to analyze and shut down the situation, without actually even trying to find out what has led someone to take such a drastic step. Calling them coward makes us coward in a way, since we don't want to know the reality behind it. We don't want to help and face situation's others are facing. Hence why, we all should try to face, help and fight for the close ones and others that we know are suffering from such mental issues, instead of labelling them names.

This pissed me off on so many levels.. First off.. Ive always suffered w/depression, BPD & other mental illnesses & suicide IS NOT a coward move. One of bod's characteristics is suicidal ideation. Even though I see a counselor weekly & share everything w/her, I still have suicidal thoughts on a weekly basis. However until I find that foolproof plan, I'm stuck living a life I haven't wanted in awhile. I also suffer from multiple types of widespread chronic pain & have been for over 8 years, which progressively gets worse. As my pain levels got worse & therefore could no longer work, my mental illnesses increased. Most of my friends pulled away bc of one of my disabilities, which just causes more depression. Moving an hr away from where I grew up to where I knew no one only made life worse. Nobody knows what is going on in someone's life & therefore should not judge what they know nothing about! Why should I be punished by others bc of what God has given me?! As far as the opioid epidemic... I'm so sick of hearing that people assume it all started w/opioids. As with any meds, if you take your meds as prescribed, you won't become addicted to them. My dr detoxes me off my meds every 4 years & then start back up on much lower doses. I don't abuse, never did. I feel that this all started w/all the "claimed" OD's. It's very possible they took meds on a daily basis, couldn't take their pain anymore & didn't bother to write a suicide note. Nobody thinks about that... I heard about a heroin od online. The boy was injured multiple times, had to have surgery, was given meds (obviously didn't take them correctly) and when their doctor took them off, rather than gradually decreasing them & that's it, maybe they should have detoxed them as well, but that's not what happens with some doctors. The kid went to heroin. The father knew what was going on, they even spoke about it & he did nothing to help him. Instead...years go down the road & the kid became an adult, took a bit too much & od'd. However..the family went viral & blamed it on the opioids. When in fact, while when his son was still under 18, he should have put him into a detox/rehab program. I'm sure a lot of others went this way & family didn't help. Parents also need to realize there is a lot of peer pressure in HS & college. They experiment & f'up. Why should people with legitimate severe chronic pain and/or those with cancer have to suffer bc of other people's choices?! It works both ways. Also if an addict goes to a hospital to detox, they keep them for 5 days & send them home w/nothing! There's no way anyone can detox from any drug, or medication in 5 days! They should either be kept in the hospital longer, transferred to a rehab center or sent home with a prescription for continuous detox meds and set them up with an outpatient substance abuse program. If hospitals did any of these options, rather than just throwing them back out on the street 5 days later with no further help, what does the government expect?! How is that the patients fault that they went back to what they were doing prior?! Would you want to be sick and feel like shit and feel alone without any help or guidance?! The only reason why I know about the 5 days & that's it thing is because one of my friends' friend has a never ending issue with that. There needs to be a better system in place in regards to this.

I suffered from depression to the point I was suicidal. About 10 months ago I got help from a professional, I'd say I climbed out but every day is a battle with my own mind. Especially since the confinement started I feel more alone than when I was going to uni. Anxiety takes over and I start creating scenarios in my head that make me feel increasingly paranoid. This all came from bad experiences of people putting me down or stabbing me in the back, and I struggle with valuing myself. I put myself after everyone else, because I don't see myself as a priority or importance anymore. Suicide happens when people reach the point where they can't fight anymore, it goes from a lost battle to a lost war

Perfectly said. When you go in way too much of life that fucks you every single time something is positive or you think your getting ahead. BAM life says just kidding and it is a constant battle you can't escape to the point you feel like your cursed in this life but you have a big heart. Also people family and friends that you once knew turn to be strangers. So what are you truly to do when you aee battling life all alone.

I saw Chester's death coming because I WAS listening. Example, in the song, "Giving Up" he says, "I hyperventilate, looking for help somehow, somewhere, and no one cares. I'm my own worst enemy, I've givvvving up! I'm sick of feeling! Is there nothing you can say?! Take this all away. I'm suffocating. Tell me what the fuck is wrong. With meeee! Goddd! Put me out of my misery, 2x. Put me out of my, put me out of my fucking misery!! Not like I can walk up on stage and say, "Everything alright man?".

It's sad. You can hear that he's suffering but the most fans can do is hope that somebody that wouldn't get jumped by 10 security guards when they got near him would help. For example, friends, family, other rich people.

+Michael Roy Hindsight is always 20/20. He often wrote about his struggles, that's what made Linkin Park's music so relatable to a generation. That does not mean he is destined for what happened.

I've been struggling to fight severe clinical manic depression for 15+ years.. it is a brutal battle that makes me feel so weak. I've always hated hearing someone say that someone who committed suicide was selfish, you don't know the fight they've had to deal with. The constant berating from your own mind, waking up every day and wishing you hadn't, not having the drive to do anything.. I was completely distraught when I heard about Chester, because I looked up to him for fighting the same fight. When I heard he passed, I felt destroyed, if the one I looked up to couldn't beat this... then how can I, not even half the man he was....

People who call these men cowards don't know what it's like to be suicidal. Both Chris Cornell and Chester Bennington dealt with depression, and even substance abuse earlier in their lives. Not to mention Chester was actually sexually assaulted as a kid, and also recently he had gotten a lot of backlash from fans who didn't like Linkin Park's new sound. They were both extremely depressed to the point where they couldn't ask for help or think about what they had. They were too far gone. May they both rest in peace.

Suicide is something that people with depression can understand. We who do not have depression cant get our heads around it we cannot grasp ANY of the things that they are feeling in any way, we can only try our god damndest to understand and help in any way that we can. My little brother took his life in august 2005, my baby brother took his in july 2018. I could never understand thier innermost feelings, as i dont suffer from what was ailing them. I could only be the big brother and a shoulder and sometimes a hig, i will NEVER stop loving my brothers and would NEVER EVER EVER consider them cowards. I miss you both Dan amd Mike every single hour of every day, i hope you finally got rid of your demons and have peace.
