Coco coir is definitely one of my favorite grow mediums. I thought it would make sense to create a fairly detailed video explaining why I like it so much.

Hey Corey! Good to see another video from you. I’m TOTALLY buying your book on Amazon, just because. You are one of the most honest tutorial micro growers on KZfaq and I’ve watched more than my fair share. Lol. I love your honesty and humility, please don’t ever change. GREAT video! I’ve been reluctant to try coco coir...maybe I will now! Take care.

Thank you so much, I really appreciate it. I will be updating the book soon with some pictures, it’s one of the great things about Amazon that I can edit it and add to it at anytime. I find it is so much easier to just be yourself in front of the camera rather than acting or trying to be something your not, when I do “act” it’s in good humor and obvious. Comments like this keep me going!

Good to see that you took my advice on soils to heart. The use loose coco coir is largely determined by local council/region food health and safety regulations. Locally for me, council does not permit any form of loose growing material, or cardboard products from being store in food prep or storage areas. The work around for this would be to use a Coco coir mat, or something similar. If you do find your batch of Coco coir to be too salty, give it a second flush with fresh water. Yes it does mean more water usage, but it could make the biggest difference in end product.

I make my own seed raising mix, have a mountain of it so I will just be using that free resource. Most of the nutrients don't even get used by the microgreen seed so it's easy to re compost that back into more seed mix. Price taste and appeal, organic vs synthetic these are all things to consider.

Great videos, very educational, thank you for taking the time to make these. Just one remark….”for some reason the weight is in Kg instead of Lbs”……that reason is probably because the metric system (Kg) is the recognized world standard and there are more people in the world who have a problem with the imperial system than the other way around……..

I'm pretty certain once you add the worm castings, it would be classified as a soil again by the HD. Careful with that. I've declined all offers to sell micros live to avoid issues with the HD. Great video as usual brother Harlowe Custom Micros.

Could you recommend coco coir other than the two brands listed in your description, and how have your experience been with them? There are multiple bad reviews for each saying they are high EC and are not pH neutral which will kill plants. I can wash it and pH up/down, but a number of people said they are also full of bugs, soil, sticks, rocks, glass, razor blades, and strong chemical smells.

I’ve also tried different grow mediums. But back on coco coir, I’ll just bought a few blocks, and I noticed, it might be reusable. You didn’t cover a segment about if you toss the coir after 12 day harvest, or is it worth tilling it and removing most/some of the roots, and dropping a new batch of seeds; say every other cycle. Coir wasn’t that expensive for how much you get, but I figured ask you about recycling.

I don’t reuse mediums in part due to the risky of bacteria and fungus forming. I do reuse it in outdoor gardens after it composts.

LOL, thanks Corey. The reason Coco Coir is in metric (kilograms etc) is because most of the world uses the metric system. America stubbornly continues to stand alone and adhere to its complicated imperial system.
