Corfe Castle is one of England's greatest castles. Standing above the Isle of Purbeck, this intimidating structure has a gripping history, including murder, sieges, defiant owners and destruction. Today we explore the history behind this intimidating and destructive fortification. Join me for a tour around the castle's 1000 year history!

Yes I agree there is little information on KZfaq about Corfe Castle given it's importance to everyone in Dorset. Thanks for the great video.

Thanks, I'm told my family lineage comes from the area of this castle, so it was a good watch.

Hi Jon, thanks for this. I’ll be revisiting Corfe Castle soon actually and be refilming parts for a new video on the castle. This was the second video I ever made so it’ll be good to revisit with more experience. Thanks for your comment :)

Thankyou, nice and informative. Surprisingly few documentaries on Corfe considering it's rich and complex history!

At 4:25 you can see the earthworks of the siege castle known as "the rings" built by king Stephen, but not many people visit it.

It’s had lots of interesting history and there’s been no incidents of paranormal activity when I’ve visited each time, but that has been during the day! Thanks for the comment mate

Can anyone with a greater knowledge of the English Civil War explain why the Parliamentarians should have wanted to destroy a castle they had just captured, rather than make use it themselves? Was it that they did not have enough men to garrison it against a possible Royalist counter-attack? Also, Edward the Martyr and Ethelred the Unready were half-brothers, not stepbrothers. They had the same father, King Edgar, but different mothers.

I’m a direct descendant of the people who lost control of the castle. After they lost the castle that exact line of ancestors moved to the American south. I’m a descendant of Sir John Bankes.
