Impulse control is one of the main things to work on for puppies. In order to do so, we look at the concept of the 3 D's: duration, distance, and distraction.
Corgi puppies are full of excitement and curiosity, but teaching them impulse control is crucial for their development. This was very helpful! Ty! We just got a corgi like a half a week ago. His name is Mochi and he’s very energetic and nips a lot he’s 4 months old and afraid of almost everything! He only knows how to sit so far as I just taught him yesterday. I hope to teach him a s many tricks as possible while he’s still young and want him to grow up different than other dogs I’ve meant that tend to not listen and be aggressive at times. Today I plan to teach him stay! And we have already tried implementing eye contact

Very cool and thanks for sharing! They are smart little guys and will absorb your instruction like a sponge. Gandalf learned probably like 90% of what he knows in his first year and then we’ve stuck to primarily ongoing obedience training (you never stop training what we share in this video) and an occasional trick. I like your videos. We have a new Corgi and I don't have any experience in training a dog. I have been watching your videos and practicing with our dog Lolli and I have the sit and stay command down. Now just to keep practicing and increase the distance.

We brought our Corgi pup home a few weeks ago and he is now full fledged Velociraptor. Hopefully this helps.

Is there a video to assist with separation anxiety? Anytime anyone steps outside, or when we leave her to go out, Lucy goes crazy barking and scratching the paint off the walls.

We currently don't have a specific video on the topic but thanks for the suggestion. However, we do have a crate training video that is a related topic. Maybe we will make one in the near future specifically addressing it in the future. Separation anxiety can be largely addressed with crate training. By teaching your pup there is a safe place for them to settle and decompress, that should help prolong their need to be with you at all times. Start with some ample playtime and exercise to tire them followed by some crate time. Give them a special chew toy or Kong to keep them occupied in the crate making it an enjoyable experience. Start with a short time, and begin building their time in it over the course of several sessions. Make sure you resist the whining as that will teach them that acting up and whining will result in more of your attention. Also resist coddling and arousing them prior to leaving them. Walk away like you would in any normal situation. Set a timer so you know when to release your pup. The main objective is to establish a point of reference in their mind (a crate in this instance) that this is the place where they can exist alone and not have to be with you. Having this skill, will then progress to your full home as they expand their limits. Same sort of exercise can then occur as you leave the home and then build the length of time. Hope this makes sense.

Any of the tips we mention in the corgi training playlist is fair game at this age. There is potty training which we have not addressed but you can find resources on that pretty easily. It’s all about consistency and a scheduled routine for pups at that age! Good luck and enjoy!

How old does the puppy have to be till I can start it’s training

You can start training the day your pup comes home. Just keep it short and fun. Even a 5 minute session multiple times a day would work wonders. They’ll just think it’s part of play and be excited every time you enter into training mode. G is 8 and you should see his face every time we start training. He loves it.

Hi Jane. Without seeing the actual interaction, it is difficult to know exactly how to troubleshoot the situation. However, in general, if you know that your corgi will respond negatively to your daughter, perhaps preemptively place your pup in a situation that will allow the interaction to be successful. This mean placing your dog on leash and distracting your pup with a training session as described in this video while your daughter is quietly near by. Your daughter doesn’t even need to interact with your pup at first. On another session, have your dog approach your daughter and reward for a proper greeting without any aggression. I’m not completely sure if your pup is aggressive, barky, or jumps on your daughter but if you look up videos on how to stop your dog from jumping on a person, I think those exercises will be similar to what I described.
