Man power tools make life easier. Imagine how much longer that would have taken just using hand tools.

Yeah, I have two very old closets that have a lot of details carved by hand, can't even imagine how long they must have taken to make, and how skilled the people who made them were.

I do a lot of hand wood working, and doing a joint like this is really time consuming, but a almost air tight fit is the most satisfying thing

It works to do it by hand, and I have a lot of respect for people like that, but don't say he did it more easily, that's a lie by definition. Also, don't say that woodcarving is a single tool, that's also a lie.

I don’t know much about much but maybe it’s a tension issue either on the blade itself or possibly the amount of pressure you are using while cutting?

Looks good to me! But, you could have just used your table saw to remove the rest of the waste on that first bit of chiseling you did. It's not a major issue but would have saved time and effort.

Sooo...where was the hack?
@platinumsky845
@platinumsky845 Жыл бұрын
A hack, a clever solution to a tricky problem, this isn't popularly known to most laypeople so as a solution to the problem of fastening boards without fasteners this really does fit the definition of a "hack" perfectly.
@garyhager6026
@garyhager6026 Жыл бұрын
@@platinumsky845 no, this is a complicated, time consuming and difficult joint only done by skilled woodworkers. The very antithesis of a hack.
@platinumsky845
@platinumsky845 Жыл бұрын
@@garyhager6026 hacks are clever/creative meaning they often require skilled technique or knowledge of the process such as being "done by skilled woodworkers" creative and clever means of accomplishing something, especially in an unconventional manner are also typically more complicated, and often require more significant levels of time or labor like how this example is "a complicated, time consuming and difficult joint" so yes, you're right to agree that this IS a hack. Not all hacks are like this, as creative and unique methods of accomplishing something are simply more LIKELY to require greater skill, labor, time, etc but it certainly doesn't exclude either form. I'm glad you agree with me though, thank you for explaining exactly why this example qualifies as a hack.
@garyhager6026
@garyhager6026 Жыл бұрын
@@platinumsky845 no, this is in no way a hack. A hack is something that makes a task easier, faster, less complicated or cheaper. Again, this absolutely is not a hack.
