We spend some time looking at how different displays just can't hold up to the durability and strength of Corning's Gorilla Glass. In a couple pretty elaborate demonstrations, we see just how this is true.

Its not their fault so much if your screen break, it is glass and they aren't claiming that it is bullet proof or anything, it just means that it is harder to break compared to using any other glass screen.

PartyHat hns ^ I can confirm this :3 lumia screen is still intact after dropping it 8 times, not pussy drops like hard drops (unintentional drops) only damage it took was a scratch to the back casing.

i too accidentally dropped my old Lumia 520 twice, one on wooden floor and 2nd on a tiled floor, and thank God the glass screen is not broken! Thumb ups to Lumias!

FYI, these glass panes had a scratch in them (put in with a force of 7n). if your phone has no scratch in the screen, it has a less chance of cracking on impact, as a crack has no seed to crack from (like a chip in a car screen)

Just a fool, my Nexus 5 had fall from 2 feet high only on a wooden floor and even if it was in a protective case it all broke and cracked, so I don't believe it's better than any others glass.....

the phone my brother paid like 800 bucks for just this week uses this glass, which was released in the year 2013... the phone's Sharp Aquos R2 Compact, a Japanese phone, my mom really wanted something that's small & has anti-shock/fall resistance..... not gonna be good "(-""-)"

They can make phones unbreakable right now, we don't have to wait for the future! They don't want them lasting longer! They want them to continually be outdated and broken so people have to keep buying phones and cheap screen protectors! There Borosilicate Glass, polycarbonate glass and lamenated glass all which are stronger than 90% of phones out there! we have the materials, they are cheap to use in phone manufacturing but they would slow down business for them exponentially. They dont want to lose all that money they can rip us all off for!

glass is still glass. we still got a long way to for that to happpen but it will happen at some point. we just don't have the right materials and technoglolgy for that to happen yet.

I had a Moto G4 non plus I recently passed on to a family member who needed upgrade, have dropped it a few times over the time I had it on hard wood, and even once on asphalt with only a rubber case no scratches, or cracks. Now I have a Moto G5 Plus, and I've dropped a twice so far on hard wood both at home, and work, same no scratches, or cracks. However My older Moto G3 has a finger nail sized scratch in the middle, and some chipping around the top right edge after a fall on asphalt leaving my work, and it even had a hybrid rubber/hard shell case on it. So personally I think Corning's QA for Gorilla glass is a bit inconsistent at times, how the glass is implemented in different devices, the nature of glass being glass, and shear luck.

Boxtex PlR sapphire glass prototypes for phones has been around since at least the first quarter of 2013 and for someone in the business of phone screens im positive he is aware of competitors new breakthroughs well before the general public. so you can shut up :)

Original Gorilla Glass was awesome, Gorilla Glass II was is garbage, watch drop test for GS2 which has original GG then watch GS3 drop test which has GG II. I can only imagine GG III is not great.

And for all the people bashing Corning for their phones breaking, it's not indestructible, it's scratch resistant and let me tell you, if your phone had plastic or regular glass instead of Gorilla it would have been scratched even for just carrying it with your keys in your pocket...
