#CoronaryArteryAngioplasty #PercutaneousCoronaryIntervention #BalloonAngioplasty
MEDICAL ANIMATION TRANSCRIPT: A coronary angioplasty procedure is also known as percutaneous coronary intervention. The procedure is done on blood vessels called coronary arteries. They supply your heart muscle with oxygen. The goal is to restore blood flow if a substance called plaque has significantly narrowed these vessels. To begin the procedure the doctor will numb the skin in your wrist. A needle will be placed through your skin and into your radial artery. Next, a flexible guidewire will be passed through the needle into your artery. Then the needle will be withdrawn. It will be exchanged for a small flexible tube called a sheath. This permits access into your artery. You may feel pressure when the doctor inserts the sheath. But you will not feel it moving inside your artery. Next, the guidewire will be advanced up to your heart. A flexible tube called a catheter will be advanced over the wire to your coronary arteries. The progress of the procedure will be checked with an x-ray device called a fluoroscope. At this point, your doctor will remove the guidewire. Then, the doctor will move the tip of the catheter just inside the coronary artery to be examined. A special dye will be injected into the artery. This allows your doctor to view it better with the fluoroscope. The dye will make any blockages in the artery stand out. If a significant blockage is found, your doctor will insert a guidewire into the artery. A balloon on the tip of the catheter will be moved along the wire to the blockage. When the balloon inflates, it will expand the artery and improve the blood flow. You may feel some chest discomfort while this is happening. After this, your doctor will deflate and remove the balloon. A wire mesh tube called a stent may be placed in the treated area. The stent helps keep the coronary artery open. Your doctor will choose the proper sized stent, which is compressed over a balloon. The stent will be moved into the artery over the same guidewire. When the balloon is inflated, the stent will expand and lock into place. After the balloon catheter is taken out the stent will stay in place to hold the artery open. At the end of the procedure, the guidewire will be removed. To find out more about coronary artery angioplasty, talk to your healthcare provider.

@jacksonyan7346

Correct me if I am wrong, while a healthy lifestyle certainly prevents more plaques/clots from forming, it wouldn’t do much to existing ones except slowing its growth. Seems like the body just lacks the mechanism of getting rid of dead foamy cells in the arteries. Interventions and medications should be pretty effective though.

im one of the lucky ones when it comes to artery blockages, a few years back when i was 320 lbs i thought i was having a heart attack since my chest felt weird and my BPM was through the roof. go to the hospital and shocked the doctor, my "bad cholesterol" levels were 125 and my blood pressure normal. he had them re test me and again my cholesterol levels were 123. after that he said what i experienced was caffeine rush (never felt that before) and some how my cardio vascular system showed no signs of any disease... i owe it to my family on my parents side, they never had heart problems even the mega obese ones. i lost 140 lbs and doctor said i should never worry about a heart attack unless it was a blood clot or i got really old.

Coronary angioplasty procedure = percutaneous coronary intervention Flexible guide wire Catheter (a flexible tube, advanced over the wire) Fluoroscope (an X-ray device, check the progress of the procedure) Special dye (injected into the artery, allow to view better with the fluoroscope) Guide wire Balloon on the tip of the catheter (moved along the wire)* The balloon is deflated and removed Guide wire Balloon Stent (a wire mesh tube, compressed over a balloon)** The guide wire is removed *When the balloon inflates, it will expand the artery and improve blood flow. **When the balloon is inflated, the stent will expand and lock into place. The stent stays in place to hold the artery open.

Had 4 of these put in. One procedure a week, two stents during the last procedure. I was in the hospital for a month. Very conservative doctors in Japan. Total cost after the NATIONALIZED, SOCIALIZED insurance kicked in? Less than $2,000.

@Zerpersande
@Zerpersande 2 жыл бұрын
@@kris0375 There is a monthly cap on the total out of pocket expenses for any single problem. It’s somewhere around $1,800. But it’s for a calendar month. If your problem starts in during one month and carries over into the next you could end up with a cap of $3,600. At least that is the way I understood it. I’ve gone in for a full blood workup, EKG, chest x-ray and a consult and paid about $15. Bernie Sanders wanted to have a similar, (actually even cheaper) system but the conservatives lost their fucking minds because he’s an atheistic Jew that uses works like socialist/socialistic/socialism.

so the procedure is like coil embolization for aneurysm, but the different is you use balloon to expand the artery and then putting somekind of mesh to hold it together, not only it saves time, it also less invasive since it doesn't require an open surgery

A few days ago my dad passed away at the age of 56, stents were put in his heart years ago. But he never checked the stents after that and just kept buying and taking the same medications. He also kept smoking cigarettes and lifting heavy things. If you have stents in your heart don't make any of these mistakes plz. :(

If in case the plaque is too much and the patient is stable then open heart surgery would be feasible (CABG). but that requires the blood flow to the heart to be connected to an external pump which acts as a heart for the duration of the procedure.

I had this procedure, twice in the span of three days, and I would like to had a few comments: First, the needle in the artery hurts like hell. Second, I did feel the guide wire and the catheter moved inside my arm. Third, it's not "discomfort" when they inflate the balloons, it THE worst angina you will feel... for me it was worst then the heart infarction.
