It got privatized and the different owners care more about their own profit than customers. "Why is energy so expensive?" "Why is telecommunication infrastructure so lackluster?" You will not believe me when I tell you this...

Important to note that the concept of capitalism itself isn’t a bad one. The issues we see today are growing monopolies and diminishing competition. When everything is dictated by almost the same handful of elites, you get this whitewashed, uncreative blather with only one purpose: increasing profits at all cost. Ideally, capitalism would involve equal opportunity for all comers to compete in the national/global market. But that’s been slowly eroded by laws pushed by lobbyists and more takeovers by the same few companies.

Publicists have to follow the brief, and if the brief is extremely limited (they are 99% of the time due to CEO's don't know shit about art or how normal people work), then the ad will end up being extremely generic. Like Banksy once said, people who work on advertisement are some of the most creative people on the planet, but they waste their talents on something that restricts their creativity way too much.

I'm a diehard EDM fan, and I agree with this. It's ironic because I enjoy electro house and whatnot, which is basically what corporations are trying to shove at you, but they took away all the "go crazy" energy and watered it down so much to the point where it's not even designed to be listened to. It's just made to accompany an advertisement. (This kind of music usually falls under the subgenre of downtempo)

This one is kinda hard to avoid I think. It's so ingrained in people's minds that futuristic music isn't futuristic at all if it doesn't sound like something out of the Tron: Legacy OST. If you don't do this people will criticize you for it, and if your trying to sell a product for whatever reason not doing this could hurt that goal. Sometimes what the general population thinks music is can be a problem as well. Have you ever watched the newer Voltron series? It's not a great show but it was pretty popular for a while, despite having some of the most generic music I've ever heard in TV.

They need something that they can just grab and cut to length. You can't have that AND emotional progression at the same time. After all, corporations are not evil, they are simply just too big to consistently act in a way that we would expect from a good person. This video is still amazing, but it's more of an opinion piece, albeit a really sophisticated one at that. With a comment like this, the picture is more complete.

​@@Artemis-ty4sz, thank you very much! I gave it a short listen just a few minutes ago. Though, it's a bit too relaxing for me to keep up a workflow. I did like it, however, and intend to revisit later. When I mentioned "functional state of apathy", what I meant is such a state where apathy mixes with the rhythm of the work, resulting in everything feeling like a blur and occurring without much consciousness put into it, yet at high productivity. Almost like a flow, except rather than engagement, there's complete absence of it, having your motions and thinking process go on autopilot. This doesn't have to be just the menial work either, it's just that the thought process is occurring almost at the back of your head, near mechanical in nature, while your actual thoughts are put elsewhere (or nowhere, for that matter). So, rhythmic and directionless, yet not ethereal. For prime example, something like 神保 伸太郎 / Syntaro Jimbo's "Shapeshift", Nine Inch Nails "Reptile" would work just fine for that kind of mood (for me personally). The later one has lyrics, so might not be a good example, but both help to detach oneself from the reality of whatever it is that's going on, without disrupting the flow of said labour. I am terrible at music genres, so if you could give me another suggestion that would specifically cover this kind of music that I mentioned, I'd be quite happy! So, something with industrial motives or otherwise a kind of a motion feel to it, yet neither being too heavy nor breaking off from the established rhythm. Similar to ambiance, in a way, in regard to how stable and non-intrusive it is.

Me, who listens to video game music, which fills that same purpose for me: *wha-*

I listen to LoFi when I want that uneventful, unexciting music to fill the background and distract from other noises like cars. I think if I listened to nothing music seriously, I would start losing it by the 4th track.

@@Denter86 Don't feel too bad, I liked them too, in a way. They still count as music in the strictest sense of the word, and are designed to be strictly "enjoyable". This music evokes the same feelings in me as someone giving me plain water crackers or a standard balloon (monocolored, round, average size). I release a single endorphin because this gift is better than nothing and not offensive, I say "nice." and then forget about it. It evokes nothing else, and that's the problem with it.

Religion can be an incredible base for creativity and creation, people trying to emulate divinity through their skill an imagination. But when its praise for praise's sake it can be so disingenuous and hollow

+It Just Works I can’t offer much of a perspective of my own, but Adam Neely has a great video where he tries to understand why he dislikes Christian contemporary. He makes a great point about how the deliberately simplistic music, meant to emphasize praise and spiritual ecstasy, make everything sound less genuine.

@@meowtherainbowx4163 a lot of contemporary religious music is very basic. Like, extremely basic. Hillsong United was one of the bands my Christian friends really liked, and yeah where the alternative was overplayed older hits, or psalms, we found this newer stuff easy to pick up and easy to get into. But when you really listen to them, they're like 20 seconds of lyrics spread put through a 3-5 minute piece, a lot of it repeating ad nauseam. A lot of it isn't even really words, it's just shouts or woahs or yeahs. There's one song that has like two lines before going into nana's for several bars.

@@KingNefiiria Yeah I had the unfortunate luck to be in my schools chapel band. Those poor singers had to keep repeating 'nanana na naaa naaaa' for like 5 bars. Christian rock is the most uninspired music I have ever heard. Nothing against the religious, but damn y'all need some better composers.
