This is kinda sad to hear... freddiew and the crew back in 2010 was the MAIN AND WHOLE reason i started youtube and editing. The main reason how i got into movie making, editing, youtube, film school and a batchelor in film. Iv been having multiple channels doing VFX and skits since FreddieW golden days. That you guys dont have the same, or even more influence on youtube, is so sad... now mainstream media and vloggers like Jake paul and old Viners hs taken over the content on youtube. Only a week ago i re-visited the old coridor and freddiew videos, and it felt sooo good. Its my childhood. I want a job at Coridor really, that would be a dream

Honestly VGHS was a guilty pleasure. Only element missing was the MOBA scene like League players. But it was actually fun and corny but in a good way lol. And it was decently shot, and the cast was likable.

I'm not a "filmmaker", but I live and work in Georgia as a props person and Armorer on a lot of the big shows here. I can say confidentiality that nobody in the industry respects KZfaq or new media on the level they should.

Freddie is going through what tens of thousands of KZfaqrs will be going through in a few years. All these 19-24 year old freshed-faced vloggers seem to be completely oblivious to the fact that where was an entire decade of content creators before them who are currently trying to figure out how to keep this career alive as they get older, get married, have kids, etc. The entertainment world has always been a harsh business, that won't ever change.

That's why Freddie should have stayed a KZfaqr. Wish him the best of luck.

I love Freddie, this dude has inspired so many people to grow as creators. I look up to the guy, and am genuinely proud that he exist. It really gives hope for the species in general.

This video is 4 years old now but that guy who made the backrooms video getting a film with A24 definitely seems to be showing a change in the attitude of LA.

Gone are the days when KZfaq contents were pushing the boundaries and make us viewers think, "Holy shit, they can do this at home too? I thought only Hollywood could do this!"

Hollywood sounds like a dude that joins your groups at the club, then says you can't come to the afterparty, while the afterparty is at your house.

For anyone that remembers this, Freddie was involved in plenty of commercials for video games, for Blizzard and Call of Duty. If I were in Freddie's shoes, I could go the route of making and directing short creative action videos for the gaming industry from commercials all the way up to storyline content, using his uncanny ability to bring gaming characters to IRL.

2:00 SO TRUE. I tried doing a small film back in college here in ND I was all excited for it and had a few friends who seemed interested in doing it with me. It wasn't gonna be very long like 15-30 minutes tops we had lots of ideas. I scheduled a lot of stuff put a lot of stuff together. Got a place to film it, even got a cameraman or two to help for free (which was very nice of them). Then tried to find just some extras in the background even if they were just sitting there studying or working on homework. Didn't really find anyone, then luckily like a week before found 2 that were gonna be nearby anyways and were okay with being filmed. Then my one friend kinda just backed out without telling me or he did tell me. The day of the shoot the other friend was no where to be found, called him up and he was told "im on my way" waited a bit was down to just me, and one of my friends. Wanted 4 people, needed like 3 at least. Luckily a guy I knew was around and was willing to be in it which was great. In the end the one cameraman (who was kinda new to it) forgot to take the protective clear plastic off the lens of the one camera and so half the footage was slightly blurry :( I had to do almost everything and if I could have I would have done everything but sometimes you need others to do stuff cause you can't do everything all at once and when relying on people it can make problems. At the end of the shoot the one friend finally showed up and it was like "well you missed it cause you were late" but he didn't seem to care. -_- Maybe if I had money to give to people to work for me it would have been slightly better but making movies in places other then California just doesn't work to well unless your okay with doing it all alone without extras or other actors etc. That's one of the major factors that has been deterring me from doing videos like I want cause im just me and I can only rely on myself but it's hard to film something that requires some actors and your just you and operating the camera and lighting etc. At least with the editing of that film I made I had all the control of where I wanted the music, where I wanted cuts etc.

Every time I watch Freddie Wong or Corridor's videos I always wonder why they haven't been approached to make a movie, just someone give them a large budget to work with, and I kinda understand now, it still makes me sad.

I was going to say that while I love Corridor and FreddieW's videos, I always felt that there was a lower expectation of quality on youtube because it's free and easily accessible content, and a lot of successful youtubers find an audience because the content is right there at your fingertips and free to watch. Then again, most of what Hollywood puts out these days isn't worth paying theatre ticket prices for in my opinion, so many he has a point.

It makes me so sad to see Freddie jaded. Hang in there, dude! You're a pioneer! You took the longer, harder road. It'll pay off. Old Hollywood is crumbling. I worked in VFX in LA for five years. Real-time rendering is about to change everything. The biggest VFX studios will implode in the shift, and the vacuum will send production companies flailing for good content. I know people in the industry who respect you guys more than most of the people who "made it." The real pros will turn to guys like you when it's time to rebuild the industry from scratch. Stay strong!

Corridor has material to polish and send to festivals, ROT, TETHER and many more, I think right now is more about making that script and characters better, the visual part you guys already have solved.

Freddie's videos inspired me as a young filmmaker, and it is sad to hear that the work he done "doesn't matter". I think life moves on but for sure he is sounding very negative and hopeless about his past work which he should be very proud of.

Feels like Freddie had a mindset that was in direct conflict with the very real opportunities they had in hand with rocketjump. They were pioneers in the sense of smaller scale productions with well above average effects but couldn't help but look at what the other side of the industry had (an easily available talent pool of cast, crew and gear/sets).

It's sad. I've watched so many incredibly talented comedians, actors, and writers find success online over the last 20 years, and it's so rare to see that translate to a mainstream career.

I think the real solution is to put effort into 'serious' short films that have a shot at festivals.

You had a major series go from KZfaq to Netflix, but Hollywood doesnt want to work with you? Then dont work with Hollywood, work with Netflix. Work with Hulu. Work with HBO. People need to get away from this "it has to be on the big screen to matter" ideal.

Maybe because Hollywood see people like Freddiew as just VFX artists/Editors not so much as Directors.

This kind of made me sad. I always loved Freddie's content, and I know it's a extremely hard job, but I wouldnt put down all the work they did. Even if to the rest of the world those records dont matter, who cares. It matters to all the fans you made. Dont forget all the people your videos touched, or made smile. All those videos and corridor have shown me my passion for filmmaking, and that's what you should strive for. Money is not everything.

I have worked in Hollywood for big TV shows and movies for 4 years now as a assistant camera and camera operator. Everything he's saying is spot on, it's all about money. That's what made VGHS so special is that they raised money to produce the show, with no end game of profiting off the show which in turn caused a product where they valued creativity. They just took the money they had and made the best possible production and that's also why indie movies are so good as well, they aren't boxed in by the stereotypical story structures because they are more focused on creativity and not making money by trying to appeal to the widest possible audience. I am now jaded about the film industry myself, and they messed up by not welcoming Freddie with open arms because he's a genius & a great human that crew's would love to work for.

Depressing... Freddie is an amazing creator and deverse so much more, along with all the people he works with.

I remember watching this guy when I was a kid like in 2008 and 9 good times, the age of flash games and halo 3 and reach.

Why can't a dude just have been awesome at capturing a moment in time 7 years ago? Why can't that be the reason? He came along did some great stuff and then faded. That's how careers in show business work, not everyone gets to have a twenty year career, 99.99% of people who try never have a career half of Freddie's. I get that he needs to keep moving and trying, of course he's a human trying to make his way. I even get fans willing him on. But it's not a crime he never broke through, it's not evidence that the world is aligned against talent. It's a reminder that making stuff people like is super difficult and involves and element of luck, and that we should be happy that this man captured that for any instance in our lives.

Damn. I really hope he makes it big. He's just so creative and his content is so good.

FreddieW totally should try his hand in Hollywood. This man deserves a bigger and relevant audience.

My experience as a filmmaker, even if from a different country (Italy): I started with a self-produced short, which went around festivals winning many prizes and that took me to make a movie released by 20th Century Fox (Tempo di Reazione). Only later I opened a KZfaq channel to be able to work on personal projects with freedom. Our "Innumerevoli Ombre" web-series has won prizes around the world (New York, Los Angeles, Rome) and that has allowed us to do something else. Freddie (and Sam and Niko) need to do the opposite journey: now that they have this experience and strength deriving from their series on the web, they need to do a short self-produced to take around at festivals and with which to look for a contract for a film.

Thanks for this advice! I heard Freddie talk a bit about it at Vidcon last year so it was cool to hear some more in depth about it. I definitely was hoping to pivot my KZfaq videos into feature or TV directing but I too have been wondering if that route is really working, though I have gotten more corporate and commercial directing gigs. This year I have a short that's doing the festival circuit, so I guess we'll see where that takes me! Thanks again. Both Rocket Jump and Corridor Digital have been big inspirations to me!

I remember starting youtube watching random stuff like "funny videos" "people falling" etc, but freddiew was one of the first channels i got into, i remember the smosh video they did as a colab, and that got me into smosh too!. I got somewhat passionate about animation/film, but my wings where cut with studies, but i still love watching stuff the people in corridor do. I feel like VGHS was one of the best things I've seen in KZfaq. It wasn't the best shit ever in the world, but it was something we all waned and got thanks to you freddie.

My family loved Rocketjump so much every video is saved on our cloud drive to watch on our TV. We still watch and laugh at them today.

The film industry has been around much longer then KZfaq and the internet. They look at us as if we are just babies making videos for quick entertainment. It's a totally different playing field, but in the end, we are all creators trying to share a vision. That is what matters

VGHS was amazing growing up, especially since I was familiar with Rocket Jump.

Freddiew introduced me to the vast youtube community of action videos. They were my favorite videos 7-8 years ago. It sucks time is constant and we're always moving forward and getting older. I just wish I could enjoy a little bit more of that youtube era. Anyway, thank you Freddie, Brandon, Sam, Niko and so on...

Hey guys, I have a suggestion: putting "watch the whole episode" links in these podcast snippets would be quite helpful=)

Here’s the thing: there’s more traditional content now than ever before with Netflix, Hulu, Disney +, HBO Max, Peacock, Qubi, etc. If these guys want the freedom to be funded for their own projects, they need to pay their dues in traditional media. Direct a show for the Disney channel, then Freeform, then CBS, then Netflix. Keep striving for bigger budgets. Once you direct one tentpole series ($8m+ episodic budget) you will be able to direct more. Then you can pitch yourself as the director of Stranger Things rather than Videogame High School and you can get financing for your solo film. You aren’t going to be able to jump the line with KZfaq credits but you can get your foot in the door and then pay your dues for a few years. If you want it, you can get it.

Watching this during quarantine, hollywood is taking a huge hit. I hope channels like this can come out on top in the end

RocketJump’s biggest and best series was Video Game High School. If they broke off and made low budget, decent earning films after that they would be much better off, possibly able to start a small indie company, not just KZfaq.

A good example of how to have it both ways is Dan Trachtenberg. He consistently produced online video, Totally Rad Show, short films, etc. While also doing the standard route of directing TV commercials and music videos, etc. He's now directing films in massive franchises (10 Cloverfield Lane, Uncharted) and doing it well. So the problem is, if you ONLY do KZfaq, you'll never get the contacts and experience wanted to shoot more traditional formats.

Strangely I can relate. Lost my college grant. So spent the past 8 yrs studying everything I would have learned. But ah so what cause I don't have a piece of paper that says I spent time studying. So learned a lot but still can't use it to get a job.

The life of a Filmmaker is the most frustrating, most difficult, most underappreciated there is. I’ve always been a follower of your videos since day 1. At the time I was just a kid in middle school; now I am a sophemore attending university and studying Film.

To me, Freddie reminds me of a comic strip I saw in MAD magazine once of one dude out in the rain who has a thought bubble while looking at a man in a cardboard box, and that man looking at a caravan wishing he had one, and the dude in the caravan looking out at an apartment wishing he had one, and the guy in the apartment looking at a house... you get the idea. The point is, he will never be happy unless he has won an Oscar as a film director.

These three men have inspired me to do new things especially in the film world. I am currently a college student hating the usual way of school. I don’t know what I want to do but thanks to Sam, Niko, and Freddieand I am making my first short film. I’m watching tons of youtube video on basic aspects of How To’s and similar content. But I always end up watching these guys (probably cause I’ve watched them for 9year of my life. These guys made the film industry look fun and exciting to the point I’m apply for film school after 3 years of “normal college” (sorry if that offends anyone but I don’t know how else to explain it.) I want to thank Corridor Crew and Rocket Jump as well for the inspiration. I haven’t started my channel yet but I will probably post a comment on Corridors next video about it. Today is film day👌🤙

Here's the thing though, you can still make the stuff your KZfaq fans like while also doing more traditional shorts that you can send out to festivals to win awards. After a festival run, release it on KZfaq. You can still put up BTS stuff on your channel to keep people engaged with your channel while working on these projects to garner acclaim in the industry, but you don't. You don't need to focus on a feature think smaller do shorts that are specifically designed for festivals. Corridor Digitals short "ROT" would have been perfect for festivals instead it was just released on KZfaq.

It's not just movies, it's nearly every established industry. They either don't get new media/youtube/etc, or are too salty that it's so popular. Take ad executives for example. They keep pumping obsene amounts in TV Ads, then they don't work, and when web ads, youtube ads, inlfuencers on other other platforms are so much more efficient, and you can track their effectiveness so much better. But don't get internet, they are set in their ways. They are the past, but for now, they control the money strings. And that's like that in every industry. Until millennials get promoted into positions of power, that's not gonna change.

VGHS was a childhood dream of mine. I wished that actually was a thing and the show was the embodiment of what kids my age wanted back then. FPS games and everything was culture exactly like that. Besides the entire school dedicated to games obviously haha XD

I think the problem with new media is that the quality of acting, directing, writing hasn't been up to snuff with how the golden age of Hollywood was back in the 50s-80s

Many of my friends are TV actors and seems like the only thing they care about in that industry and hold value in is money + a completed full great story/script* with meaning. Great camera work and cool shots alone they don't care about too much because it means everyone still waiting on that story to film.

Times are changing. Several KZfaqrs have broken that stigma in the past years and are hopefully carving a new lane that others can follow.

VGHS is one of the most important shows of my life. I loved that shit with my whole heart.

You know I feel it really is? It was FreddyW, grew his massive fanbase from VFX shorts and funny bits. - Then the name changed to Rocket Jump. That hurt a lot on branding/ finding the channel. - Then came VGHS. Where's Freddy Wong in the movie? That's the man we all wanted to see. - The views were still there, but the damage was already done. - The Subscribers that wanted to see Freddy got Sub Burned for not caring for VGHS, or it's other seasons. KZfaq's style evolved, where people were more Vloggy/ Creating drama to stay relevant ( The KSI's and RiceGum, Logan Paul, DramaAlert etc. ) So when the viewership changed, pulling in the fans wasn't easy to do. The Old Freddy vids we used to love, changed into a series which didn't really have him as a main character ( maybe a cameo? Idr ) And in the shorts that he was in, it just wasn't really effective, or staying in ppl's heads to be a consistent reminder to keep us watching week. There was a couple, like the Floor is Lava, And keep off the grass... I think that was it. If He wants to revive the channel. He really has to do at least a 10 minute video short every single week. Consistency and Audience Retention. And lay off of trying to reach for Hollywood/ The Big Scene. Use the same 5- 10 friends that you have. Take The JKCrew for example. Freddy was standing on the goldmine, looking for Diamonds, but tripped, and fell into a bunch of coal.

Ironic. Allot of new VFX and editors in Hollywood most likely got a few tricks from Freddie's old tutorials. Especially the gun muzzle flash one.

For those of you who realize you have nowhere near the talent Freddy has and are thinking, "Well, what chance is there for me?" Take heart. In my experience, the level of talent often does not correspond to the level of success. I have benefited from this sad fact.

It's crazy how many talented KZfaq filmmakers seem to hit that same glass ceiling where they're unable to break into mainstream filmmaking. Freddie, Sam and Niko, Ryan Connelly etc. Youd think for sure somebody would've offered them a modest budget for their first features already.

Honestly new media is and always will be seen as a different arm of the industry. As I finish up my last year of film school I’m reminded how throughout my experience we’ve always been told that new media stuff like youtube is it’s own thing and if you want to go that route then go do so, but know that you won’t be involved in anything traditional unless you go the traditional route

It's always absolutely hilarious to me how most of the mainstream industry ignores and even belittles youtube etc and the content creators there, and yet a lot of these big youtubers bring in more views and reach a wider audience than their movies or shows ever would.

It really is a bummer that the stigma is still there :/

It's probably my naivete, but I've gotta believe that going to a studio or funding company and say "We made this series of KZfaq videos for $X, that brought in $Y in advertising dollars even after KZfaq took their cut, and is still bringing in money" or "We have a built-in fan base that we raised $X in funding from, with our largest donation being $Y", that some studio, somewhere would take notice.
