Corruption charges against Phuc: A character assassination by communist hardliners? | DW News

Жыл бұрын

The president of Vietnam, Nguyen Xuan Phuc, has stepped down following pressure from top political leaders of the Communist Party. Members have blamed Phuc for corruption in his lower ranks.
This is happening at a time when the single-party state has embarked on an anti-corruption drive.
Phuc had held the position for less than two years. He was regarded as a pro-business leader who welcomed trade liberalization, signing deals with the EU, Japan, and Australia at a time when global manufacturing has been shifting away from China to Southeast Asia.

@@doctorpoopypantz6003 This is all true, you're right. Didn't mean to imply that they have freedom or anything like that. Correction for my comment: I hope they don't go in the same direction as the CCP/China under Xi Jinping's rule, especially since ~2016/17/18. It can always get worse no matter how bad the baseline is, sadly. And one way it can get much worse for the Vietnamese, would be if they close off their internet. The CPV could also get more pervasive in many other ways, just like the CCP, which would be terrible.

@@rockhard9369 That, sadly, seems to be the case. They're not exactly on the best terms with the CCP since the CCP is claiming the whole south china sea, including Vietnamese waters and islands. China also tried to invade Vietnam in 1979, and the border conflicts didn't stop until 1991. But like you say, it seems like they're starting to copy Xi Jinping when it comes to internal politics and control. Very sad. I had hoped they'd refrain from doing so in exchange for a loose partnership with the west to counter the CCP in in their waters.

I’m really disappointed with vietnam law, it’s like 2 faces, giving an example of the vietnam airline flight attendant smuggling 11kg of drugs, because her family its a high official ranking a brief investigation then after that they release, so vietnam justice only for the ordinary people.

Dear Mr. Bill Hayton, Don't quite agreed with your comments about taking over of powers between parties in Vietnamese government's systems, and because of that Mr. President of Vietnam resigned...In politics, power struggled is a NORM..However, if you have good leadership's gov. officials, then the power struggled is worthy for the sakes of the peoples and nation as a whole..Have you ever live in Vietnam for at least few months and talking to the local peoples to see what types of government's leaderships officials are and how much Vietnamese appreciated their government's systems?🤔?..If you had, you wouldn't have made such comments..I think I might be better qualified to comments about Vietnamese government's systems & regulations more than you do with accuracy of FACTS from ordinary PEOPLE'S lives and how screwed up with the worst blatantly corrupted government's officials at the lower levels..Don't even mentioned those at top levels..Mr. Phuc resignation was just an "appetizers", at least those who are still in "his networks" nowsadays probably knew by now what they should do..Besides, may asking you a practical question, would you as an investor of any big business would like to gamble your investments in Vietnamese with such screwed up corrupted systems?🤔?..Furthermore, with resignation Mr. Phuc is still able to retain his property and avoid jailed times ➕️ all his assets aren't taken away by the government's systems..Don't you agree?🤔?

"Vietnamese appreciated their government's systems..." That is refreshing. I've stayed in Hanoi for a decade and the affluent Hanoians I know send their children overseas to study and earn residency in foreign lands. Generally speaking, I do not find the people here value social order in society or civility or even social graciousness. I suppose your expectation towards the government is toned down. Like the saying in South China, if you can't have a fish maybe a shrimp will suffice.
