Botticelli didn't coalesce his ideas about painting. After the influence of Savonarola in the early 1490s his painting style changed significantly. He stopped painting that style and even burned some of his own paintings. The reason we have the Birth of Venus is because it was in the Medici's possession.

I do not believe that you can say that Botticelli was an "extremely strong fundamentalist Christian", that is not proven, it was just proposed that at the end of his life he followed Savonarola. That expression is too confusing based on a 21st c definition.
