Timeless. His voice is so pure and clean. I'm not hearing any effects. Reminiscent of Marvin Gay's ability to draw on and translate emotion into a form that everyone can relate to. God, I love Seal.

She’s insatiable and it’s killing him to lose her. It’s always something or someone new. The way he sings this. Could you just die!! Incredible piano! Impeccable vocals! I believe he wrote this. Can you imagine what it takes to dig this deep into your soul and pull out something that can explain what he’s feeling and then you feel that too!! That’s what great music does. God I hope there’s music like this in Heaven. There’s got to be.

Ah, the full version from the vocal warm-up in the beginning. Never have I seen a man pour his soul into a song with as much beauty as in this performance. Easily my favorite song of all time. 1991.....my God.

I have the same VHS and signed copies of the first two albums. Even then, people asked “Who’s Seal?” I honestly miss those days before other people like David Foster and his record label came along and told him how to write a Seal album.

I wonder if this is Guy Sigsworth, listed as the writer, on piano. I was lucky enough to meet Seal on the following tour, after the debut album, backstage before the show, after I took Sir Paul’s current drummer out for dinner. Seal’s tour drummer was Abe L. who toured with Seal, after finishing the Steve Vai world tour, which is how I met Abe. Amazing musicians, all of them, and I love the whole Seal debut album. It was groundbreaking, and instantly produced many huge hits. ☮️

Thanks for this comment. Have been trying to find out who the pianist was on this song. Guy is listed with Seal on the acoustic version of Violet on the "Rare Collection" release. Love the piano in both the acoustic and first album release.

Pretty sure it's Simon Hale, the other live versions during that era sound very similar and Seal actually mentions him at the end of the song at The Point in '91

The incredible Seal playing the amazing Violet more than 30 years ago ... sublime. This is my favourite song and I spent six months writing out the music and learning to play it. YT won't allow links but if you're interested in seeing the results, do a youtube search on "accompanying seal playing violet acoustic". The pianist is probably Guy Sigsworth, who also wrote Violet I think.

What an amazingly beautiful song! I listen to this version still today. Gives me chills every time! Seal has changed a lot. I liked him better back then. The music was deeper and more meaningful, had deep soulful meaning… he lost it somewhere after Seal V, I think…. His first album where this song is was his very best IMHO.

To me, this first album is the epitome of Seal. The next couple of albums (Seal2 / Human Being) we’re great but, they were very refined and lacked the raw energy from the original. Tbh I don’t listen to anything after human being especially his newer stuff. Just doesn’t do it for me. This session & Live at the Point are his best live works imo.
