Cosplay Construction: Sans Mask Breakdown (with lights)

8 жыл бұрынHey guys! You asked for it! So here it is! A breakdown of my Sans mask!
Quick tip I forgot to mention: I get all my electronics from Tayda Electronics! Everything I need (LEDs, wires, switches, battery holders, etc...) come from there: www.taydaelectronics.com/
Base construction: Newspaper and masking tape to create the shape
Cover in plastic/cling wrap to begin molding process
I used this stuff (www.joann.com/active-4inx180in...) to mold the base.
Once that was done I used SO MANY LAYERS of wood glue, wood filler, Mod Podge and Gesso to strengthen it and smooth it out.
Once I was happy I spray primed it with Rustoleum spray primer in white. Then just used acrylic paint for details.
Eyes and nose were black stretch fabric. Mouth was white stretch fabric.

then the wiring, I think about 5 ft each just to be safe:

(I like to use red/black wires to indicate positive/negative input/output; you'll also want stranded if you're going to do parallel circuits, it makes life easier lol)

That's so cool! It sounds rather simple when you break it down, but it's amazing! It works so well, especially since how sans keeps his hand in his pocket, so the eyes seem so alive!

Yes that would work just fine! It's pretty much exactly the same as the one I used.

The slide switch is sold out on the site you linked to in the description. Is there a similar alternative component I could use in place of the original switch?

Sean Hetherington Any sort of 3 point switch will work! You may have to do some digging online but you'll just want something with 3 points (white, off, blue).

Sean Hetherington As long as the through voltage isn't less than your cumulative battery voltage, it will work. Considering LEDs typically work with very little voltage, for this type of project it doesn't matter. If you were working on a larger scale product, there would be a lot of number crunching!!!

What did you use to secure the LEDs? Me and my dad are working on a Sans mask and we're stumped on how to put the lights in.

Just used hot glue. the white LEDs are mounted on thicker aluminum wire so they can be repositioned and I hot glued the wire into the inside sides of the mask near the eyes. The blue eye I just directly hot glued to the top of the eye socket.

Is there any way to make the eye wire wireless? It's hard to explain but basically u don't have this wire threw the sleeve and u just have a simple button u can push to make it change the eye sorry it is really hard to explain I was just wondering

Quite possibly!! There are a bunch of electronic parts through AdaFruit that may be able to accomplish this! But that bit is outside my limited knowledge of electronics. I know there are remote powered LED strips so I don't see why that WOULDN'T be possible.

This is AMAZING. Considering my first plunge into cosplaying and i want to make a sans mask. This video is insanely informative but i still feel rather overwhelmed with wonder. Any chance of a written process on what steps you took from square one? The mannequin head. How exactly is that used as the base and how is it removed? Additionally i'm a fully grown guy so any advice on how i'd meisure myself up (i.e leeway and additional space required) Kind regards and thanks for the inspiration!

Thank you! As for my process, the mannequin head was already about my head size, so I used extra newspaper to give the extra room. I would suggest to find something similar (maybe a styrofoam ball to start) that's about your head size or larger. Removing the stuff from the inside was difficult and time consuming, so make sure to use something you don't mind destroying on the inside. As for measurements, I would suggest measuring the circumference at your head's fullest point (I'd go for from the tip of your nose to the base of your skull and add like 3 inches just to be safe. Gumball Mcgraw Unfortunately, I didn't take video nor did I take a lot of photos of my own creation process. However there are some other cosplayers on here that have made similar masks that have good videos of the full construction process! (But honestly I wing everything I make sooooo... haha!)

I wonder if you'll see this message in time. I want to do this cosplay at a convention a friend of mine and I go to (especially since we do fighting games there; playing Megalovania on a speaker in the background would be suitably epic). My understanding of this is that you papermache a mask about the rough size of San's head (factoring in your own head size as well) then cut out the eye and mouth holes and put fabric in on the inside and install the lights that way?

O///O In that case, what would you recommend for those of us just starting and who have 0 experience in this field (but are at least capable of following directions) for the base? My mom thinks I should grab a helium balloon, but I see it popping very quickly.

neophyteexpert you could definitely do that! There's a good tutorial on here that uses balloons and paper maché. it's probably the cheapest route, too. And as long as you don't poke at it with a brush I think you're good with not popping it xD

um.... hi! im gonna do a sans cosplay as well and i have a question about the electronic eyes for your sans cosplay.... how do you make both the eyes (normal and genocide) and how do they switch from one another? could you maybe make a tutorial how to put the electronics together? (sorry my english sucks) but thanks anyway

So I take it you didn't need to do the cone thing for the regular white pupils then?

I did do something similar for the whites, just not a huge cone. I wrapped them in a small cylinder so I could put tissue paper over them to help diffuse the light better.

hey! i doubt you'll see this but, how did you do the inside are there any pictures on your Instagram or something? also, how do you see out of this? thanks!

I do have some pics of the inside on my IG, but basically the inside electronics are are hot glued in place. There is also upholstery foam hot glued inside on the back and top for cushion. The battery pack is attached to velcro which is also hot glued into a rectangle cut into the back foam so it's not poking my head. As for vision, I can see through the black fabric, my line of sight is beneath all of the electronics, it's just VERY blurry... and trying to see in low light levels is super hard. it's like wearing sunglasses at night lol.

Thank you! And yes, gloves are hand sewn and hand painted :) I also hand painted my tights (not shown I think).

Auna Manga I personally made my own skeleton stockings by hand painting tights and custom sewn armsocks with fabric paint. I have seen people buy printed body suits or leggings from online, though I'm not sure of the store name. :)

+Sans Skeleton I was recording that for my Gaster!Sans mask but then my head was in the way of the camera and half the footage was lost SO I'm going to do it again, but at a later date lol. I'll have a video up of how I built the blue eye but actually how to wire it together will have to come later... :(
