I'm almost certain he will, he's just not ready yet! In his calculations though, he didn't add cost of heating, so maybe you can give him that added cost. 👍👌❤

Great to see Eva is back to 100%. One thing for sure, when you do concrete or black top your going to have a great base to start with. The base is more important then the final finish

Biggest problem with asphalt is that any oil or gas gets dripped on it it dissolves. You kid overflows the lawn mower, delivery truck stops in. Car leaks oil ect, ect. Then you get holes.

Hey Mike, I'm sure it is still cheaper to stone it. But! You need to add in some of the trailer cost because you use it to pick it up Some Kubota cost and your time because you use those to spread the stone. I didn't mention the truck and the insurance for all the equipment because your a smart guy and I know that you would know it put that into the cost as well. My point is, it's a little misleading when you only mention the cost of the stone. If you didn't have all of the equipment and didn't know how to use it, you would have mentioned the cost of delivery and labor/machinery to spread the stone. I'm with you on the cost factor, just thought you should include "all of the cost" not just the stone. On another note, I love watching your channel, the content is great. I'm glad that Eva is doing so much better, it is definitely an answer to all of the prayers. Have a great week and I'm waiting on an xl sweat shirt so that I can get my ODWTM gear.

Hi Mike. I have a 1000' driveway. I put stone down first. Years later I was able to get road millings. They hold up really well and pack down almost like a paved driveway. Don't have all the stone to rake up in the spring either.

Happy Anniversary! Great to see Eva has recovered and is getting out to the gym again. While I agree that gravel is much less expensive, I’m not sure you did an apples to apples comparison. The $11 for concrete has a lot more calculated into it that your number for the stone. You really need to include the cost of all the equipment required to get the stone and spreading it along with your labor. I realize it’s a sunk cost for you and you work cheap, but gravel is more that just the cost of the stone. Love the channel. Have A Day!

Happy Anniversary, Mike & Melissa! 32-years of wedded bliss 🤣😂 for my wife and I this year. Crushed stone, perfect anniversary gift!!! As a lifelong city dweller, I never would have understood the cost effectiveness or usefulness of stone/gravel until I started developing my North Idaho rural property. There is no way I could have laid concrete or asphalt to cover my 1/2-mile access road or 600’ driveway, let alone keeping it from disintegrating with the freezing and thawing of Winter weather. The naysayers are possibly those who’ve lived in the concrete jungle their entire lives. Great to hear Eva is back in the gym and back to normal life.

In August of 2021, we paved with blacktop our driveway and parking area around our barn in northeast PA. The total area was 6,000 sq. ft. for $24,500 with a commercial grade blacktop since we have heavy equipment, the propane and garage truck driving on it. We edged the blacktop with road modified to protect the pavement when driving on and off it. We are very happy with it plus everything is cleaner and NO MORE MUD!

Happy anniversary, nice to see Eva back in her happy, healthy , helpful routine! 16:00 international Farmall A , my dad's favorite tractor. Not his most-used is poppin Johnny two lunger with the tricycle front end. He built a angle iron with expanded sheet metal basket attached to the rear axle and with a rubber grommet where the headlight is attached. So it free floated on the front axle. He had a wooden box in the corner closest to the driver with steel post clips and Staples, with a fencing plyer and a hammer in a ice cream bucket. The rest of the Fencing Equipment lay in the basket. He called it "His Communing With God Tractor" I haven't before or since seeing a person so happy by himself fixing fence!

If you would place a quality geo-textile fabric on your soil and then place 2+" of stone rolled down I think you would not need as much maintenance annually as you suggest. The biggest issue is usually steep slopes and bends in the road, on a slope some catch drains may be needed to control washouts with heavy rains or storms. Congratulations to both of you on your anniversary. Best wishes to Eva on her continuing recovery.

Happy Anniversary Mike and Melissa! One thing to consider in the concrete vs stone equation is if open concrete is taxed as part of your property tax bill every year. When our first appraiser came out from the county he ask about future plans and I said after the shop the house would be next then concreting the circle drive, he said it would be taxed, so I said asphalt then and was told they were thinking about taxing that too. So stone it was and always will be.

Mike, I am amazed at how well you can drop stone and sprinkle it the way you do. I have attempted this several times with the over 50+ ton of stone I put in last year with my 1025r and just couldn't master it. It just tends to dump in piles. I will be working on perfecting my technique this year but I can only hope to get close to the way you can put stone down. Things are looking great there and I enjoy watching the videos daily. Great content, instruction, and I am gaining a wealth of knowledge and insight into the reason behind the way you do things. Happy and excited to see the success you are enjoying through your perseverance and determination. There's a lot to be gleaned from all of these videos and your mentorship to the community.

I live rurally in New England and when I first got my house (haas for you in PA), the driveway was a goat trail. Your vids on tractors are partially why I bought a tractor. I went with a gravel drive over paved because of the frost heaving, ice conditions and the mud/thaw season. Gravel pros, I just leave the snow if it's below the axles. The gravel drains very well and all I do is every Spring I get the York rake and blade out, grade and crown and then rake it out and I have a new driveway again. No matter what happens to it, plow damage, ruts etc, I just fix it in about two hours. The down side to gravel is, everything is dusty, it tracks into the house, you can get puddles if you need to re-grade it. If you wash cars or equipment it puddles up and gets mucky etc. It's nice to have a well done concrete pad somewhere for cleaning things or working on jack stands etc. If you want gravel that will last forever, grade everything out for the base, throw some 3"+ stone down and compact it, then top it with crusher run and compact it again. Rent a roller compactor, it's really worth it. You can drive a cement truck over it...basically a road base.

It's really great seeing Eva doing so good. I looked into doing concrete but then went with asphalt. After years of doing stone the asphalt was a good choice for me. Yep stone is cheaper but I'm getting older and was tired of working with stone every year. I know you love stone. Me...not so much. Also you make spreading stone look easy. Folks it's not that easy. Mike definitely knows what he is doing and is a great operator. Thanks for sharing.

In your calculation I believe you should add fuel cost for picking up the stone and cost of tractor time for applying the stone. One could argue the depreciation cost of your cost of truck and trailer. How many times would this be done over a 10 year period. Plus your time has to cost something doing this. I understand your position though.

Happy Anniversary, 31 years, awesome! I'm sorry, I'm one of those commenters spouting concrete. If anyone is fully aware that you know your stuff it's me. Oh yes, dollar wise, perfect sense, fun spreading stone, you lucky dude! It was your neighbor that day when you drove by and said, "you know you've got it made when you have a heated drive." Well, with ya'lls motto, "the finer things in life," a heated cement drive and parking lot and aggregate walkway from house to gameroom, certainly is the finer things in life. I do hope you didn't get offended. I do hope that one day, whenever, you will have all the finer things in life. Your channel sure adds to the quality of mine! So very sweet to see Eva 'back at it.' Thank you Lord! Eva and Melissa sure had great hair today and awesome smiles, geese, so nice! I really enjoy watching you spread stone! I remember now, you've talked about making that road before, at least in 2 videos. Concrete IS very expensive! Everything is, we here in Hickory NC are paying $3.39 a gallon for gas. I saw the dancing clip on Instagram, good stuff! It's supposed to reach 68° tomorrow w rain. Now get that stone spread and stay out of the mud! Thanks Mike and Melissa for the sweet video today!👍🚜❤

Love the videos and watch every one of them. Happy Anniversary 🎉.. I love playing with the numbers, old baseball stats guy.. 54 Years of stone = 60k of concrete.. if you spend 30 hrs a year spreading and maintenance on a stone driveway that's 1,620 hours in 54 Years.. Your time is worth something so let's put it at 25$.. Just for maintenance of stone driveway for 54 Years in just labor $40,500. Add in fuel cost, new tractor cost, maintenance of machines, rising prices of materials over that 54 year period and it's a no-brainer.. Concrete all the way. Once it's done it was paid for at today's prices . The way inflation is going nowadays. A ton of stone might cost you $200 in a couple years. Come on Melissa buy him a concrete driveway!!! I'm trying to apply the Mike lumber price savings angle on the concrete for ya.. Just having fun. Keep up the good work.

Happy Anniversary !!! A thought on the driveway….. We have a mile long dirt road up here in Maine and had fought mud sections for years until my buddy told me about bituminous asphalt. It’s more expensive than stone, but less than concrete. We chose to do sections at a time over a few years, but now it looks and acts just as if it had been paved. I’m not sure the cost of it in your area, but just my two cents. Which I’m sure if you had the two cents from everyone’s ideas offered to you you’d be able to afford to gold plate the driveway. Hahahahahaha Keep the great videos coming ! Thanks!

BTW I hope that Melissa is getting a medal for putting up with Mike all these years. From my own experience save your money and stay with the stone drive. WHY? Concrete in almost any large pad has two things. 1) its very hard and 2) it cracks, shifts and moves. Yes afraid it does as my large concrete drive is having issues at the expansion joints where one pad is rising and the next is sinking.

Happy Anniversary ! Happy for Eva !! Great explanation gravel vs. concrete. I arrived @ same conclusion for my long driveway years ago. I had quote for asphalt and figured I can get a big load of gravel every 4-5 years = cheaper plus we like the gravel driveway look. I don't have all your equipment so the dump truck driver(s) set the tailgate chain to thickness I want spread (1-2 inches usually) as they drive and dump. NO work on my part. 👍

Happy Anniversary Folks! Spot on about stone.Asphalt and concrete need yearly maintenance. A yearly dusting of stone gives a nice fresh look! Mike you forgot to include the price pf the radiant heat tubing!

I wish the limestone rock was that cheap here. In lower Alabama we pay $1100-$1300 for a 22 ton truck load. Great to see Eva back in gym and healthy. Still trying to decide on which shirt or shirts to get. Keep them videos coming.

Wow !!! I'm glad that I'm in Missouri!! The 2 local chat quarry both are $9.50 a ton!!! I usually get 1in or 3/4in clean stone.

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!!! 31 years that is great! It's great to see couples who stick together through thick and thin. Your right about the thickness, with the log trucks coming in you'd have to go at the least six maybe eight inches. Now if you have a alternate way to get to the wood yard you could concrete the main driveway and have all the heavier things come in a different way. Congratulations to success, prayers for the both of you, and your family. Stay safe!

I think you made your case pretty well for stone vs. concrete. Some things you didn't mention were: 1) The total amount of your time required to spread that stone over 54 years vs. that required in the prep for the concrete. 2) The amount of your time and the cost of maintenance of the concrete over 54 years. 3) Time and money required for the alternate road and how that road would affect the maintenance of the driveway and parking area in either case.

Hello Mike and Melissa! Before they paved the dirt (clay) road I live on they came through and fluffed up, ground up, the clay several inches down and dusted it with a cement mixture of some sort. They ran a water truck down it, rolled it and let it sit several days to harden. Made it almost like concrete. Then paved on top of it. Made for a very stable base. I've heard this called "dirtcrete".I've noticed they have started doing something similiar to this on new road construction using crusher dust... pea gravel or something. Y'all have a great day!

Happy Anniversary Mike and Melissa! Eva, we got your thank you card and love the sticker! Glad to see you doing so well! Mike, we don’t suggest concreting the drive and parking area. You are correct that it is way too costly but suggest you compare to asphalt. Much cheaper option and super easy maintenance! That being said, we have always admired your stone spreading skills!

Thanks for the gravel spreading discussion/lesson. (I had asked you about that at the Bunyan show.) My limited experience says there is a big difference between just limestone and the stuff with fines. Fines always wants to clump and not behave, but practice makes perfect!

So good to see Eva back in the swing of things. Happy Anniversary Mike & Melissa, Mike I'm so glad Melissa let you live this long lol. You need to add another $15,000 for the pex under the concrete so you can turn a valve in the house and tell Melissa the driveway is all clear dear.

That's a lot of money for a concrete driveway. Can you imagine if you heated it like your neighbor down the road. Oh my. Happy Anniversary Mike and Melissa.
