Have a Toyota RAV4 for over 10 years. Never needed a tune up, still runs like new, with the original spark plugs......very reliable brand.

I had stopped for a while didn't see how your family is doing but now I see Mina has a big changed. Since you have her she can't speak any English at all but now she could learn things so quickly and her English is incredible. It compared to me, I took at least two years to know how to speak English and can communicate to the people who speak English well, but all I see about Mina here is very well done.

We've got a 2014 fortuner here in Thailand and it's a bloody gem. Only done 100,000km and serviced every 5,000km and it's still going like a new car. Loved the William Shakespeare song at the end!!!

Congrats, Neenee on your new vehicle. You always get the guys saying buy used and worry about depreciation. I got the same hassle 10 years ago. My reasoning was I bought new for keeps and no worries about its maintenance from previous owners.

@@NowinLao A fact I wasn't aware of! Our not so president President and Congress pushed and passed a 7.5 billon infrastructure bill addition to build EV charging stations in 2021; so far only 8 have been built. EVs blow up when it is too cold or hot and in extreme rainy flooding conditions. Replacement battery prices are sometimes more expensive than the vehicles themselves and older model batteries are discontinued, leaving the vehicle inoperable and useless.

That Peogeot Landtrak is a rebaged chinese Changan Kaicene F70. 1.9 or 2.2, 180hp , 6 gear automativ , 370nm. Better by japanese brands

Mina with the umbrella made me wonder. The ladies in the Philippines use umbrellas and skin whitening things to lighten their skin. Do they do the same in Laos? They think the whiter the skin the better. I don't agree. You did need another vehicle. Mina will be driving before you know it. 😁Yes she is your "Little Angel" 👼

They do, but not as much with the skin whitener. You'll see school children all over Laos riding bicycles to school one handed as the other is holding an umbrella.

Great video Todd, congratulations to Neenee on her new car, as you said correctly, people bust their guts over a lifetime of work and to spoil themselves once or twice is reward. Toyota tough, maybe stretching these days but they are the most reliable and you know they are the best for spare parts no matter where you are in the world. Peugeot are pretty good, however I think their SUV's are badge engineered Mitsubishi Outlanders. The Song My Little Angel sung by William Shakespeare brought back some fond memories from the 70's, V8 cars and fast women. Oops. 😇💥

I'm curious how the Peugeot (Push N Go) LandTrek will do. I've owned several sedan Peugeot's over the years. I've been eyeing the 3008 and the 5008. But in Thailand there's not a very good Peugeot dealership network.

Just done my marriage visa extension last month, paid 3.000.000 kip in total, and got both the stay permit and the visa from the immigration office, i did not had to go anywhere else. It took about 2 weeks ... This is my 2nd extension, and everythong costed around 3M kip 2 years ago as well. Thanks for the tip BTW, You told me about the new marriage visa back in 2020 or so during covid :)

@@djnor1979 3 million? Maybe you're paying an extra fee to have them take it to Foreign affairs for the visa part and why it takes 2 weeks. Still a fair price though for a 1 year visa. Much cheaper than the LaB2 visa. In total mine was only 2.4 million.

Will step it back up once we return from our adventure and it's had a good break. Yes, Mina started hol's last week until Sept. We'll get away in about 10 days for about 5-6 weeks. Got a few things to do before we can get away. We should be back in town at the end of Aug to coincide with your trip here 🍺😉👍

There's no way I'd buy a new car now. For over a decade, manufacturers have been adding lots of unnecessary crap (Apple connectivity, screens, extraneous items that drain the battery) that's getting harder for mechanics to fix. The EVs are at the extreme end of that, as very few mechanics are experienced with them yet.

Todd,do you renew your Stay Permit on the expiry date or before ? I always end up losing about a week as I go 1 week before expiry date. The lady at window 1 told me I can go on the day of expiry if it falls on a week day. The info on my stay permit says apply 14 days before (did this on firts renewal and lost a fortnight)they always date my new permit from the day of application not the expiry date of the old permit,the visa is also dated from the date of the stay permit application and not the date of visa application.Wondering what is your method of renewal,and do you also loose out if you apply before the expiry date. Always applied for stay permit on the week it was due for the reason you stated. This year though I applied 6 weeks early to change the date that it's due so we're not interrupted during Mina's school holidays as we'll no doubt be away on the road at that time.

In Australia we can't afford the good brands so we're buying the cheaper Chinese cars and they're everywhere. The Fortuner is $60,000AU and a Great Wall Tank is $40,000AU

Oh she has purchased a brand new Toyota SUV that was an awesome thing brother, congratulation to her a brand new car that she has always hard efforts. Purchasing an expensive car particularly in Laos is hard because most of the people are still can't afford the costs.

yes and the words i wass always poor now I can is more status than needed when you buy special a Prado and big problem is also in Laos is manny people sell them land for status products but a car new always bad investment always lose so manny other things you can better invest in. Is nothing to them is in a general mindset but I wish manny safe kilometers.

The BZ price seems too low considering the import taxes - is it really $30,000? Or did I misunderstand and its 130,000?

@uiski7956 actually, the day after they started a sale for them. $29KUS.. The gov' are really pushing EVs here. The tax I mentioned was an average on engine size for cars.. starting at 31% for less than 1000 cc going up to 220% for more than 5000cc. The Fortuner was taxed at 82% for having less than 3000cc.. over that, next tax bracket is 127%. So maybe the gov tax EVs differently 🤔

@@NowinLao Thanks for the info - the price in Japan is from Y5.5million (USD 34,000) so the BZ is even cheaper in Laos than the country of origin...a bargain, but as you say, there is some uncertainty against ICE engines - but if this trend continues, ICE parts are going to be affected sometime down the road if this EV trend continues - you have a good point on the value of cars with this new technology - all depends on the future price of batteries I guess. I am not a buyer of a new car in today's market, that's for sure - call me old fashioned! But that BZ is attractive from a non-tax point of view. $30,000 for a new car, and possibly a new battery in ten years could be cheaper than a 100% tax on some ICE cars...big gamble no doubt!

In Thailand the insurance industry jacked up the rates for EV because they are easily damaged and easily disposable. And the biggest problem besides the battery is they are toxic fire hazards.

I can vouch for the Fortuner mate. They are a tough car my oath. Really stoked that Nee Nee did not go with the transgendered car as those Duds are just continually sap you for money and honestly in Australia they are the biggest Dud car and will never be feasible. The Birkenstock and un washed brigade will wax lyrical but a really nice choice of motor car Mate.

Todd. I KNOW, you have videos out regarding visas. But I'm younger than them... I'm 42, settled4life, OffTheHamsterWheel, I'm allowing myself 25-3000 usd a month. And selling House, bikes, boat etc here, so I'm OK.. What do I get ? What will it cost ? Looking for a renewable 1year visa.

The same visa as most retirees.. a B2 visa, some call it a LaB2 visa (without the work permit). You'll be able to come and go as many times as you like, renewable each year. You need an agent to sponsor you though. Chris Barth or Mina Maruka (you'll find them both on Facebook under those names) can help you out no worries 👌Not exactly sure of the cost because it can vary between agents and what you need, but you'll be looking at around $400-$600/year facebook.com/cbarthlaos?mibextid=ZbWKwL EDIT: Actually it's probably cheaper than that now because the Kip has depreciated so much 👍

@NowinLao I just caught myself being a bit stingy (ohh my Buddha, 600 smackaroous for visa), just to realise paying 1.5usd a day for not shovelling snow, oil for heating and overall prices skyrocketing. Like I said.. probably much cheaper now because of the Kip 😉 If it's more than a couple of beers it'll have to be over a few sittings.. I'm a cheap drunk 😝👍

I just organised a couple of LA-B2 for some recent arrivals and the presant charge with the agent I use is $450. It is also worth remebering if you do marry a Lao citizen, live in Lao for more than ten years, the stay permit charge is just the tax ($4). As for the amount you are allowing yourself, I think you will strugel to find a way to spend it.
