Soon To Be Self-employed I've not yet been to PP personally. But I know a few people there and I would say PP is easier to find a teaching job. There are way more International schools there. But SR is smaller and has more of a small town vibe. I've HEARD there is less crime here and SR is also cheaper in relation to apartments and tuk tuks. However, some people would argue that PP has more things for expats to do and has a very active community. So I wouldn't say one is better, it depends on your lifestyle choice. 👍

Hello! I'm not sure how much beer is in Thailand, but I drink one of the local brands here called Angkor, which is 50 cents a can and, in most bars, 50 cents a draft. They do sell Tiger, Leo, and Chang but I'm not sure of the prices. I'll find out tomorrow and post in my next video!

Hello. With that monthly income you'll be able to live very comfortably here. Even if you choose a bigger western style apartment with more amenities you'll still have money left each month. A $300 apartment here is considered a luxury! Now, with the virus, there are extra expenses however. They require foreigners to have proof of $50,000 in insurance and they just announced a $3000 fee for everyone entering the country for Covid19 tests, quarantine costs, and cremation costs should someone test positive and pass away. I'm not sure how long this rule will stay in effect so hopefully next year when you're ready they'll have done away with it.

@@ThailandDantotherescue Actually, if one wanted to live like a local ($50 apartment, lots of rice, no western comforts) it could be done for $300 a month. Of course, that's very basic living plus you'd still need your visa fees and stuff, but it's possible. I think $500 is a good goal. You can still have some amenities and have an apartment for $100-$120 that is very liveable!

@@DaveDoesCambodia after 8 years army infantry I could live comfortably in a ditch if there was some shade, a dry place to sleep and a little running water. I currently spend 2 weeks a month working as a paramedic on an oil rig. There is no luxury or entertainment here.

A studio apartment is great for one or two people. Most of them come with a kitchen area, so you could cook your own food. We cook at home most of the time 😃👍

T - Bone Thank you. I like my apartment and love the area it's in. In my next video I talk a little about finding an area of town that you like as opposed to a fancy apartment. Health insurance is, like many things, up to the individual. It can be costly for expats but there are a couple reasonably priced companies that people recommend. I'll do another cost of living video, but it's basically the same. There are some things I pay less for and some I pay a little more for the quality. 😃👍

The short answer is yes. It won't happen at the bigger schools (who do everything by the book), but it's happening at some of the smaller, lesser known schools.

Yeah, things have changed! I've been here almost two years now and don't plan on leaving anytime soon. I might go visit neighboring countries when I get the chance, but probably won't be moving out unless they make me leave lol :)

Late response, but $1000/month is pretty comfortable there, man. I'm moving to Phnom Penh in May/June myself and I'm expecting to come into a teaching job making 800/1000 month. It depends on your lifestyle like Dave said, but with a grand a month you'll definitely have enough to go out a couple times a week and still have some left over for emergencies/random expenses/savings.

Haurqermer swartz Yes. It came with a bed, blanket, sheet, pillow, pillow case, table, two stools, wardrobe, fridge, and fan. Not included were pots, pans, eating utensils, plates, bowls, rice cooker, electric wok, towels, etc. 👍

Hello! Yes, I'm still here. Different job, but same apartment with the same rent. Cambodia is cracking down on foreigners riding motos here. It's changed since I've been here. Now, you must have a valid drivers license from your country and go to Phnom Penh and apply for a Cambodian license. You must also have a long term, valid visa. And, of course, must have it registered and always wear a helmet. Motos are fairly cheap. A brand new 50cc scooter goes for $520. You can find used ones cheaper of course. Without a TEFL, it's going to be very difficult to get any kind of teaching job. And, while some schools offer English programs for adults, the majority are to teach children. You could offer a tutoring service, but you would still need at least a TEFL.

There are a lot of companies offering expat insurance. There are also different prices depending on what plan you choose. The best thing to do is Google "expat insurance" and pick the right one for you.

@@ivaneccles1869 I guess I didn't explain myself well. In America, we have banks all over the country. I can just walk up and pull out money from ATMs with/without any fees. I also can make transaction online within the bank or banks etc........ The money is already there for me. In Cambodia, banks don't talk to banks in America. They use wire transfer to get the money from US banks to banks in Cambodia. That transfer can be expensive. However, if I live in Cambodia, my access to my account in American banks would be very limited. That's why I asked. Is there a way to connect that gap?

S Shin Hello! Yes you can. If you have the supporting documents, like in the West, and are not on a tourist visa, you can open an account at almost any bank. You'll get a debit card and there won't be any charges to use that banks ATM's.

S Shin Definitely leave it in your account at home until you get here and set yourself up with an apartment and stuff. But if you know you're going to stay, transfer it as soon as you can to avoid fees from the ATM. 👍

joseph a durkin Hi! You get a visa on arrival at the airport. However, you need to make sure you get either an EG or EB visa and NOT a tourist visa. This visa is only good for one month. Before it expires you can extend it in country for one, three, or six months. Unless you are getting a retirement visa you cannot extend it for a year without a letter of employment and a legal work permit. A work permit takes about a month to get. You can extend your visa every three or six months, but without a letter of employment you will probably have to do a visa run. Which means leaving the country overnight or longer (at least 24 hours) and starting the process over upon re-entering Cambodia.

Dave Does Cambodia Wait - in the video you say a one year visa is $300. That’s what I’ve read everywhere too. Just find an agent, give them $300 and you’re set for a year. In your reply above, you’re saying you have to do visa runs all the time. I’ve heard of that in Thailand but never Cambodia. Could you please clarify?

Mark Olwick Hello! A one year visa is about $300 a year. BUT, in order to get that 12 month extension you must either have a retirement visa or a letter of employment with a stamp from your employer and your work permit. If you have those things, there should be no issue. Without them, the business, or "E" type, visas can only be extended for a limited amount of times before you would have to leave the country and come back to start the process over. You may come in on an EB visa and it's good for one month. You may extend it without any documents for up to another three month period (making it a single entry type extension). After that, you have to either do a visa run or change it to an EG visa type. Doing so will allow you another 6 months (3 months initially and one 3 month extension) in country. After that you will need a letter of employment and a work permit if you do not wish to do visa runs. Keep in mind you have to possess an EB visa to obtain your work permit. These are the "rules", but if you go to the right travel agency and have extra cash, things could be arranged. Late last year Cambodia started enforcing all the visa rules that, until then, were largely ignored. It's been a source of debate and contention within the expat community ever since. These are the rules as I understand them as of right now. I hope this helps clarify things somewhat. 👍
