Bienvenidos amigos and welcome back to another episode of MLD!!!
Ever wonder what the cost of living in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico is? We sure did! That's why We're starting a "cost of living in Puerto Vallarta Mexico" series. What better way to start than to check out a North American family staple - COSTCO!!!
We were pleasantly surprised to find out there was a Costco in Puerto Vallarta before moving here - not that we couldn't live without it, but rather that we enjoyed buying specific bulk products from Costco that we typically consume a lot of. When we first went to Costco here in PV, OUR MINDS WE'RE BLOWN!
We're going to share what the experience of shopping at Costco in Puerto Vallarta is like, what products we bought, how much we paid AND we're going to do a price comparison vs. what we used to pay in Toronto, Canada. You don't want to miss the end!!!
This is our journey!

i live in California but i own a summer home in Mexico and i was flabbergasted when i first shopped at the Costco in Ensenada Mexico (Baja California) especially for Electronics , mainly because the salaries in Mexico are so much lower than the U.S ..i try to bring bath tissue and paper towels from Ca when i visit ..as much as i can fit in my car :)

Electronics in general are more expensive but it seems odd to go to Costco to buy fresh fruits and veggies when they’re literally half the price st the tianguis.

Comparing the prices of two different countries on the same store will be always tricky. Prices here in Toronto,compared with Mexico might seem the same, although one has to consider the overall cost of living between the two countries. When you pay an average of CA$500 for a two bedrooms apartment in Mexico (virtually anywhere) with extras such as Internet,water,electricity and gas that don't amount anymore than less than a CA$100 per month( a little more if you work at home and have AC running all day long), compared to four or five times this expense in Toronto, you will find that the parity of prices between these two countries don't match at all. It always depends on where in Mexico you live, but even in expensive touristy areas the cost of making a living up to the standards you will never afford in Canada, Mexico is definitely cheaper. The wife and I will try in a couple of month if Mexico is the right choice for two retirees relying on basic Canadians pensions if that nation is good for us. Maybe we will see you guys around, though we have chose Veracruz instead of Puerto Vallarta. Greetings from Toronto.

I’d be curious to see graphed out the cost of living vs Income ratio per country. In Canada you make a lot and spend even more - not to mention the overall over consumption during the winter months because there’s nothing else to do lol we don’t find the need or want to shop for random things here. Basics, food from the market and tacos is all we really want.

I didn't bring my Costco card with me, it's for my son's business back in Oregon. Plus, I don't shop at Costco for myself, as it's just me. I'm not surprised at the higher prices. I do not shop at Walmart in the states. I'll keep my reasons to myself on that...but I did go to Walmart here...trying to find some Kale and fresh spinach. YIKES? I left there with dreadful produce - and spent $87 for one person for the week. That is much more expensive than the Walmart store runs in the states. I've been told to try Soriana. Local grocery store? I'll give it a shot. I need my smoothie ingredients. Informative vlog!
@Morelifediaries
@Morelifediaries Жыл бұрын
We basically go to Costco for smoothie ingredients since all 4 of us drink some lol I’m not surprised with Walmart. We don’t go but we’ll add it on a price comparison list for a future vlog. If you can’t find what you’re looking for at a local market then Sorianas is probably your best bet for reasonable prices on “SOME” items. Thanks for watching 😊

Costcos great! With poutine they could be even better lol without a doubt some bulk items are cheaper than other grocery stores. I’m assuming stuff like snacks, eggs, yogurt, butter, etc. Our next Cost of Living episode will be comparing Costco prices to a Supermarket and local market.

Operation secret Costco mission 😂 You handled it beautifully. I seem to not enjoy the attention filming in public either but maybe I can grow out of it. You found a great place to hide 😆. La Comer is my favorite store of all in Mexico! Looking forward to seeing that! The PV store is insane, why don’t they have one in Guadalajara??? Hello! Glad you featured the Canadian maple syrup, my sugar of choice(ok I’m like Elf when it comes to maple syrup😊) and I’m soooo happy I can buy it at Costco 😅 Probably know the scented TP is because a lot of places can’t handle flushing it so it goes in the trash and helps mask some of the unpleasant odors…which I don’t think it does a good enough job no matter what 🤷🏼‍♀️ I had no idea about the Canadian poutine, interesting! You gotta get a machine, I found the BlendTec Twister Jar hands down is the best and make your own PB. Just add nuts and wha la homemade peanut butter, the best!

I would say clothes are twice what we pay in Colorado. Food was more expensive on your tour - which I didn't think was possible. Wine and beer but no hard liquor in Colorado. And we have the big outdoor section in the beginning. Interesting about the yogurt. Gas is really expensive there.-Whew! Try to go in for just bananas!-It's a real test. 😀 Looks like it was as fun as the US!

In a global economy, consumer products have a similar cost for the seller, regardless of location. Why would an international company build a store in a location where they expect a lower return on investment? The presence of Costco and other international brands in Mexico is an indication that these companies believe there are enough Mexican consumers that want and can afford their products to make it worth being in a location. Things are cheaper by and large in the local mercados, tianguis, and tiendas because they are often selling products produced for the Mexican market with Mexican labor. That, and/or the quality is inferior to the imported brands, as you point out with respect to toilet paper. It's been my observation that the only thing cheaper in Mexico is labor and the products produced with it.
