As the title says, tackle required and tips for lure fishing in Costa Rica. I couldn't find the info I wanted online, so I've made this video to help others, especially if this is your first tropical fishing trip.

Amazing Video I wish I had seen this years ago. It would have been extremely helpful. Thanks Mike for taking the time to do these. Part 2 is equally informative. Both are a must if you’re planning to fish in Costa Rica!

Hi Mike, great video. Some great tips. We use a short leader with the FG knot. No winding it through your rod rings👍

Also with the FG knot maaking it longer helps and also using waxed type dental floss building up the ramp end with half hitches.

Lots of good info I will use for a Panama trip in January, thank you for that. I'm going to need another fishing room with all the Florida offshore/inshore/fresh water, Amazon jungle fish and whatever pops up next tackle.

Interesting and very informative video. The guys in australia are explaining pretty well the gear they are using but there's a complete different world with the fish they are catching. I got myself 2 expensive set ups (zenaq tobizo + saltiga) but can't really go wrong with them. I'd advise anyone to get the top quality gear for this type of fishing if they can afford it. All my lines are Varivas and BKK hooks on all poppers, jigs and stickbaits... If I may I would suggest the PR not instead of FG. I'm off to Egypt, by Sudan border, next month. It's meant to be great for GT fishing if is on your list. Guanacaste is on the list for end of the year. Tight lines and keep up the good work.

Out of interest why a PR knot over an FG?

@@lurefishingforwrasseuk2588 The PR did better when tested (by others) and didn't break as easy as the FG but both are the most strongest knots. I personally find it a bit smoother if you using a longer leader. The issue showed at the end of the video, I never had it with the PR. You can finish off the FG with some dental floss as another fellow fisherman recommended and that should do the trick. They both brilliant but a pain to do it on the boat or rocks :) tight lines

Great video with useful information. I already watched the second video. Loved that too and left comment as well. I'm just getting ready for a Costa Rican fishing trip as I mentioned on the other video and I will be doing mostly surf fishing from the shore or rocks. I'll be using lighter rigs than what you described in this video. An 8ft MH FA spinning rod 1/4-1oz paired with a shimano stradic 2500 20lb braded and an 11ft MH FA spinning rod 1-4oz paired with a penn battle iii 4000HS reel 30lb braded. A good variety of lures. I'm very excited about this trip and looking forward to it. Thanks again for the tips. Cheers from Canada.

Just be careful with the 2.5k Stradic, you might get spooled!!

@@lurefishingforwrasseuk2588 Yes I realize it's on the light category and will consider that. I'm 67 and I can't handle heavy rigs for longer sessions. I liked your setup and I agree with everything you said in the videos. I was looking for a presentation like that for a while and you are the only one that has it out there for the world. Hi great video what’s your thoughts on the Daiwa saltist travel rods and what rod would you suggest for beach fishing in Costa Rica

Some Daiwa rods have a great reputation so you should be ok. The shimano STC rods also have a great reputation and should be long enough for shore casting. Use surface lures and wind in REALLY fast!!
