the funny thing about golf equipment is most golfers are not anywhere near good enough for most of it to make a difference in scoring.. growing up in the 70's and 80's i can tell you the clubs were pretty primitive, we didnt think so however, and yet good players made it happen. with all of the advances the scores have not changed for normal folks. we can hit a driver farther but unless it finds a fairway you are just 10 yrds deeper in the shit. but my god is it a lucrative industry w all of us chasing rainbows. nice review btw!

On the 12 yards difference in average distance, you need to remember that’s when you hit it 280, If you only carry your driver 200-220 the difference should be even less, if there is a difference at all. Rick is swinging 112mph, so the extra spin on the Kirkland is hurting him, But if you’re swinging slower that extra spin could actually help you gain distance by keeping the ball in the air for longer

Great vid. The problem i have with the Kirkland is that while $200 is a great price, I can go get a cobra aerojet, a Callaway rouge, or maybe even a paradym, or a tsi3 for the same money used and I feel like they all have more potential. That being said, I saw a different video where they put a premium shaft in the Kirkland. (It has a Mizuno sleeve). The Kirkland kept up the the premium driver on good shots but lost on forgiveness and dispersion. Seems like all the Kirkland golf stuff is the same. It performs slightly worse than the major brands, but is an amazing VALUE for cost for NEW clubs/balls etc... on a personal level tho, I would look to the 2nd hand market for drivers and irons. I have some of their wedges and as long as their loft, bounce and grind works for you they perform well. I like them, just no options.

Hmmm... let's see, $200 for Kirkland driver, then $150-$200 for shaft fitting, then ~$350 for premium shaft. So about $700-$750 all said and done. Or $150-$200 for driver fitting (fitting fee might be waived with driver purchase), $550 for Qi10 + $350 for premium shaft. $900 for driver, $1050-$1100 if fitting fee not waived. You'd save $150 - $350, depending. I think performance would be comparable because the difference in this head to head really just came down to the shaft. xstiff fitted in the Qi10 vs stiff not fitted in the Kirkland.

Would love to see what Kirkland can do with a shaft that fits your swing better. That should help optimize the spin a bit, and get some better carry numbers.

Rick, I watched James Robinson’s videos and he switched out the shafts with a mizuno adapter. That way you can put an extra stiff shaft in it and properly give it a test.

It seems like today you just weren’t hitting the Kirkland as sharply as yesterday. The numbers were OK but you had some drives that hit 300+ yards one was 308. But the QI 10 did a great job, overall. I think for the same money you could find a condition used Taylormade M1, Callaway Epic Max LS, Callaway Mavrik that would rock the boat and do just as good as the QI 10. But for the price charged by Costco a fantastic buy and a shafted upgrade would likely increase performance also.

For me, who grew up in that time when drivers were just starting to be mixed material, irons were all either chunky hybrid clubs or butter knives, and putters were all blades of some sort the new drivers are crazy. I’m happy to have nice clubs at a discount, but £500 seems excessive to be sure

Rick, I would love to see you re-shaft the Kirkland with an extra stiff shaft and hit first with that as opposed to the TaylorMade. Some of us are getting “longer in the tooth.” I believe that swing speed drops slightly during the round. I wonder if there would be a difference in spin rate and carry as well. Just my thoughts. Great review, otherwise.

If you're pushing for the Ryder Cup then it makes sense to get the Taylor Made. For nearly everyone else, you'll get more distance spending the extra £300 on coaching than you will do from buying the best club on the market. Similar story with guitars. David Gilmour playing David Gilmour's custom Strat is going to be better than David Gilmour playing my made in Mexico Strat. Me playing David Gilmour's custom Strat is still me. The odd note might sound great but I'm not going to suddenly bang out the solo from Comfortably Numb.

Check out used (or new) Mizuno drivers. It's pretty hard to argue with the prices and their performance great. I bought a used ST-Z 220 last season for rougly the same price as that Kirkland, and I'm almost positive the Kirkland won't beat it. I wouldn't drop Qi10 money for a possible marginal performance upgrade either.

If the only consideration was pounds per yard, the Kirkland would win hands down, especially as it’s only 10 to 12 yards shorter. Interesting review, as always. Not sure what I’d experience between the Budget Kirkland and the top end TaylorMade driver. At the end of the day, it’s going to be down to whatever the motivation is on the day. Personally I’d probably be looking at the end of a line previous season or previous year, or several years drivers to compare & make a decision, if we’re in the market for a new driver. If all I had was £200 to spend on a driver, I suppose the Kirkland would be an option. But equally, if I were prepared to pay upwards of £500 on a driver, which I think is ridiculous, no matter how much research has gone into it, I suppose the TaylorMade might be an option too. 🤷‍♂️

Id like to see that kirkalnd shaft in the qi10 and vice versa. Its hard to know how good the driver head is, if the shaft isnt right. I was sponsored by Bang years ago with aldila NV shafts and I hit it further than any club ive owned. And they are junk. None of my friends could hit it. But the shaft was right. We did testing with shafts and heds swapping (back then you had to glue them all! And found that the combinations were just too varying to compare. Had to test shafts and heads seperately.

For science, I would have loved to see some analysis for how the shaft affected performance here.. Given that you had the proper adapters, it would have been interesting to see an XS shaft with the Kirkland driver OR a S shaft with the Taylormade. I think this would have made a noticeable impact on the spin and the resulting performance!!

If you really want a new in box driver for ~$200, then really the best option is the PXG 0211. Head is decent, similar to the Kirkland, but you'll have more options on loft, shafts, flex, and grips.

Neah.... the differences are definitely from the shaft. It's not even the same stiffness, but also it is fitted custom shaft vs. Stock shaft. This just proved that there is not too much gain on club head, but it's more for custom fitted shaft now.

Hey Rick, wouldn’t comparing the QI 10 max to the Kirkland have been a more relevant comparison? I would assume that those considering a Kirkland driver would also be the type of golfer who would pick up the QI 10 max. If I remember from your earlier video, the QI 10 max was a little shorter than the standard QI 10. Also, if you could pop in the stock QI 10 max shaft for the comparison that would be also a little more again to the type of golfer who wouldn’t want to get fitted

Most viewers don't have your swing speed and therefore the Kirkland stiff shaft would suit them better. So you take someone with 100-105 mph swing speed and a stiff shaft in both these drivers and the results could be much closer or equal.

Lots of good info on distance, but it sure did seem from the way the video was edited that the Qi10 was vastly more accurate. I'd like to see dispersion touched on maybe? Also, you should do the Takomo driver soon. I'd love to see how that stacks up.
