I got diagnosed with Costocondritis June 11th last year and it sucked. I was out for like, a week and every sneeze was the worst thing ever. Luckily it hasn't proven to be chronic so far so I'm probably in the clear. I hope it's cleared up by the time you're posting this Stephen!

Hi Stephen I have had Costochondritis diagnosed too! When I have it its like a sharp chest pain when breathing in deeply. I sleep on my stomach a lot too, and find I get Costo when I have either been feeling very stressed or doing chest flys Thankfully its been about a year since I had it last and Ive found cutting out coffee seemed to help in terms of reducing the stress/anxiety I felt. Hope yours goes away too thankfully its nothing serious but can feel kinda scary when it happens!

My jaw dropped when I saw the video title. I've had it for over 3 years, so it's safe to say it's chronic. I was able to diagnose myself, actually. My doctor confirmed it, though. Not to cause alarm.. But welcome to hell. No, but seriously, I hope you are able to get rid of it quickly, because it sucks so, SO much. There's good days and mostly bad days, where it's hard to just breathe. I think I got it after having two cysts removed, one behind my right shoulder, the other one on my back. When I was being cut into, I laid on my stomach, and I remember that when the doctor was cutting out the thing on my back, I could feel it in my chest, it almost knocked the wind out of me. So this has been quite the journey. And to add insult to injury, my doctor isn't prescribing nearly enough pain medication, because understandably, I suppose, he doesn't want me to get addicted to the stuff. The thing is, I don't take painkillers because I want to, it's because i HAVE to, in order to function. It's ruining my sleep, I either don't get enough sleep, or I sleep way, waaaay too much, simply out of exhaustion.

I have this as well! It's unfortunately chronic for me. It's finally calmed down after a good two years, but I still get flare ups sometimes. The best thing I've found for it is good old fashion Advil. I think my posture + sleeping on a bad pillow for too long is what set it off for me. It can be very scary if it gets bad enough, but it's not dangerous. Just make sure you treat it with Advil and don't just let a flare up go, that didn't end well when I tried to just power through >

So many health issues at once... Please try to rest and take care, Stephen. Also the pain with your elbows was more than likely mild cubital tunnel. I have pretty bad cubital tunnel in both my arms and have to sometimes wear arm braces when I go to sleep to keep myself from bending my arms. Mine is to the point that the only way to get better is with surgery, but not ready for that yet...

I've got costo too! It definitely sucks. I got diagnosed years ago. Usually its not too bad but I do get the occasional flare up from things like: coughing, sneezing, stretching weird, getting a chiropractic adjustment, rain, thunder. I can legitimately tell when a storm is coming because my sternum gets creaky feeling. What helps me most with the pain is heat, pain creams/salves, and light stretching of that area when it isn't inflamed. Here's hoping you don't have it chronically. Gingersnap popcorn sounds wild.

Dang! I thought the side of our fridge was crowded, but yours is MUCH more crowded! We have the countertop right next to ours on one side and a wall on the other, so there's not a lot of space to decorate. More on topic, I never had pain like that and that sounds like SO MUCH not fun. Sure, I have had sore muscles lately, but that's mainly because I've been doing more chores outside. I've had to step up on that since 2018 when my dad died and there's only two people now to do things here. I'm out of shape and mom is old, so it's a challenge.

Costochondritis gang here too. A funny thing about it is the common name is Teetz disorder. I have it pretty on going if I stress my self out or if I over do myself singing itll flare up. It's pretty easy to live with though once you find out what's causing it.

Saw the title and felt I had to quickly click on it. Unfortunately I had costochondritus back in high school and the pain was so severe I had to leave several times. Often times when it flared up one thing that oddly helped me was I would press down on my chest right at the bottom point where the ribcage ends, and I would feel a slight pop and it would start to feel better shortly after, but that may be just me and my screwed up body lol

Struggled with it a lot in the mid 2010s and it was agonizing, but it seems to have gone away/gone into remission. I think it had a lot to do with where I was in my life, moved out of my folks' place and barely ever had it rear its head since.

It flares up in the winter for me if it gets cold up here as well as good old too much stress reactions. I have costochondritis due to autoimmune issues. It is often painful to the point that it’s difficult to concentrate on anything else. I also share Stephen’s IBS saga, going on 6 years. I have another colonoscopy coming up in two weeks (I’ve had four already). Scopes have shown polyps, inflammation in the esophagus and stomach from agita (GERD or acid reflux). There are no other findings, yet I continue to have IBS symptoms as well as (TMI WARNING) blood and mucus. Good vibes to Stephen, Mal, Keppy and his belly, anyone with an autoimmune disease, anyone with IBS, and all of you in general.

I feel your pain Stephen. I was diagnosed with costo and much like you I found that it flared up when I woke up. On very rare occasions I'd be in constant pain for 5 to 7 hours. It was miserable but I'd say that only happens every few months. My doctor says that it could be caused by stress and/or overusing my arms. I've learned to live with it but it is quite annoying

Hopefully you can show that costochondritis who's boss! Meanwhile, when it comes to medical stuff, I'm currently dealing with an issue with foot pain that started last month. A trip to the podiatrist revealed an issue with overpronation, and right now I'm trying to correct that. As for sleeping positions, back sleeping comes naturally for me, so that's my preferred position.

People talking about sleeping in a specific position is absolutely mystifying to me. It doesn't matter what position I'm in when I fall asleep, I'll be in a different one when I wake up. Like, I can't control what I'm doing when I'm asleep, because I'm asleep!

I deal with a fair bit of chest pain when I get stressed, from what I understand it's normal for people with sever anxiety like I have so I've never really gotten it checked out.(Though I likely should at some point, just worried it will be miss-diagnosed again, seeing as I did get checked out once and it was diagnosed as... pneumonia, after the doctor basically punched me in the chest and asked if it hurt.) The pain I feel does sound fairly similar though, with my stress pains it hurts to even breath in a full breath at times. How I'm fairly certain this is because of stress is because it started during a very stressful traumatic relationship I had, and because my ex was just such a good person(sarcasm) she used it against me every chance she got. Now it tends to flair up when ever I get super stressed, for example right now where I'm not sure if I work tonight, I'm also not sure if I'll be working alone, and I'm also not sure what state the store will be in when I get there, as well as worried about my gf about her eating enough, and if some personal issues she's been having are okay, and if... I could go on for hours. Needless to say I got a lot of stress. I know what's causing my pain, I just can't really not be stressed. Though I will add, anyone reading this please don't be like me and just ignore crap like this, I should really go see someone about it, and if you are feeling persistent chest pains you really should as well.

I also got costochondritis, and have had it on and off for 10 years. It started one day going to bed, and I felt a bit of pain in my chest, but I figured i'd be fine and fell asleep. I woke up from insane pain, it felt like my shoulder bone was pulled straight up from my shoulder, and my breast bone hurt so badly that I couldn't breathe. I just thought "Huh, this is it, this is a heartattack". Nowadays I get it very rarely, and it's a constant pain for me and it lasts for a couple of days to a couple of weeks.

What happened was that I had a buildup of such thick phlegm in my lungs that my only option was violent coughing fits. It was such dry stuff that it really didn't want to come out. Now, the body doesn't like extreme coughing fits, so I believe that the reason things started hurting so much was that the cartilage in my chest became inflamed.
