This video shares several somewhat obscure but very interesting locations in England’s Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Come along with us on our late July 2021 visit to the charming town of Winchcombe in Gloucestershire. Then we stop by Hailes Church and the Hailes Abbey ruin, and finally, a hike to a neolithic long barrow called Belas Knap! All these sites are located in the gorgeous Cotswolds countryside not far from our flat in Cheltenham.
PLEASE SUBSCRIBE to follow all of our adventures in The Cotswolds, travels elsewhere in Britain, as well as discussions of all things British!
Cheers! XX Dara

I think we are so much more privileged today when visiting such great places. The opportunity to capture on film and photo brings many more people joy, especially those unable to travel. I'm so thrilled to be able to travel with you on your journeys and see and learn about past and present. What a great gift. I just love the old church, any ruins and evidence of times past. You tell the story so well. Thank you both for your efforts. 💖 🙏 🇳🇱 🙋‍♀️ 🇳🇿

The high street is beautiful! There are not many high streets that haven’t been ruined in this country. Every time I see French towns and villages on the tv, I bemoan the fate of many of our towns! Gorgeous church - amazing that so many paintings have survived!! That burial mound was so well preserved! What an amazing day you had. Thanks for sharing 🍻

Thanks, luvs! I agree... it's a pity to see high streets overrun with charity shops and betting shops (bookmakers) and awful brutalist architecture! Ian was playing a time travel video the other day of Bradford, showing how the street had a row of lovely old storefronts which were torn down and replaced by ugly new buildings. Such a shame!

BEST COMMENT EVER from you, Jean! Thanks for ending the year with a LOL!!! We are planning a lot of fun stuff for 2022. We need to film a video about that in the next few months... if I can come up for air from all this Cotswolds editing!

Loved this video but found the commentary a bit quiet. Is it you or me?

Ha ha, I don’t know! I always spend a lot of time agonising about volume. I am usually most concerned that the music in the background isn’t too loud, or that my voice isn’t much louder in certain parts over others. I definitely had a problem with some of my talking being too quiet in parts of the church. I turned the volume up as high as it would go and it still didn’t seem quite loud enough!🙄

Tudor buildings? All getting a bit too modern for my liking.. Ian, I thin you are safe from the risk of collapse of the burial chamber - after 5000yrs.

Haha “modern” is relative I suppose! Yes, good point about the structural integrity of those burial chambers. Glad we survived sitting in one 😉! Happy new year, Keith!

Well, it depends on your perspective! They belonged to someone else when they were grown... but if YOU pay for them and eat them... I say they end up being yours ;-) BTW, how is the Wencire Family health status these days?

It's a crying shame that SO much medieval religious iconography was destroyed during the Reformation, and afterwards by the zealots of the Commonwealth era.

Yes, I really felt that way when I was in Gloucester Cathedral. Obviously it is not a ruin unlike some other fabulous places (Tintern abbey comes to mind) but because it is still relatively intact, you can see exactly where it has been pillaged. So awful! Have you seen my Gloucester Cathedral video? It’s one of my favourites💕. Thanks so much for your comment! Cheers! XX Dara
