I am remembering, when I was teacher in a prison, inmates gently run the tip of the tongue across a folded paper to cut off every inch of valuable paper. It works great. Outstanding video.

Steve.......I am in awe every time I watch you paint! I could kick myself for not being more serious about honing my talent when I was younger instead of waiting until I am 69! I forgot just how much I love to draw and paint! I guess "its better late then never" as they say! :}

I've often wondered what a float frame is - thanks for sharing! I love your painting of the cotton.
@mindofwatercolor4 жыл бұрын
Thanks. And to be clear this is actually a shadow box frame. Floating is the spacing technique I used. It's a bit confusing. Floating frame can also refer to a glass-less frame where the edge is separated from the painting.

As an alternative technique, after I fold the paper in both directions - using a burnishing tool to flatten the fold - I slightly "pup-tent" one end of the fold on the table then slowly work my way down the sheet with my hand always keeping the paper tented.

Lovely tutorial as always, thank you. I discovered if I wet the paper along the crease really well, it enables an easier and neater but still deckled tear.

I don't usually leave comments on anything but I just feel the need to say that you're a concise teacher and my paintings have become something I don't even recognize as something I've done! They look like some other awesome water-colorist has done them... entirely foreign; beyond my aspirations when I started painting... and I attribute that to how easy you are to understand and the simple practices you've inspired me to try. You're a magnificent painter and my perfect teacher. Love from Arizona

Always very happy to see someone paint cotton, so much of it is grown here in West Texas. As far as I know, the brown part is just called the cotton shell. The tips are very sharp and painful if you try to pull the cotton out by hand. As far as the color yours look like it was grown here. (We have had very little rain. Rain really messes up the cotton and degrades the fiber) Thanks for the video, hope all is well with you and your family.

I have to say I may not be the best watercolour artist but I am pretty girl At good at breaking paper I never use any other method except this in breaking my 300 pound arches paper. They only differences, I fold mine many more times until it’s obviously going to crack with ease.
