I was trying to remember where I've heard the name "Annie is Undead", and I realized it was from a let's argue like 5 years ago about underrated albums. Fantano was like "Annie is Undead, always got the hot goth recs" or something like that. I guess this collab was kinda overdue then.

Anthony is so goated for transitioning into a woman, detransitioning, then transitioning to a goth enby. Truly a gender connoisseur with knowledge extending across the whole spectrum 🙏🙏🙏

I think you hit it right on the nail with Couch Sl*t in how they deal with topics and thematics. Its stories and topics could not really translate in any other vehicle other than in this one. Noise Rock has always been in a lot of ways the best way to create perfect reflection of really disturbed matters. Oxbow was definitely one of the first of any noise rock that really defined my expectations in terms of how to *effectively* push the envelope, and couch sl*t definitely carries that torch wonderfully. Lydia Lunch throttled into Black metal intensity has been my favorite way of describing this project! Also, with Weaversville Home for Boys, i stg that one section is just a straight up Yellow Eyes passage. I know the dude from Pyrrhon is in this project, but im convinced they are either a huge fan, or someone is also a part of Yellow Eyes in the band.

Hot take: this is the best thing Anthony has done. +1 for including more voices, +1 for more writers to cover albums I’m sure NeedleDrop is interested in but doesn’t have the time to cover intimately, +1 for raising the tide and giving work and awareness to other great creators. I think it’s just as effective as when Andrew Rea took on other creators to expand into the Babish Culinary Universe.

I like the Presidential Welcome interlude a lot, it provides a really fun break in all the heaviness and is still kind of creepy. It creates a really nice little intro to the B-side of the record, encouraging us to really lock in and crank that shit. Good stuff.
