Now that the Cruiser is really sunk, the rest of the Black Sea fleet has had to disperse. In your simulation it took 64 bombs to take out the cruiser, taking into account what it could track and shoot down. In reality the Ukrainians "distracted" the crew of the Moskva with a few drones and took it out with only TWO Neptune missiles.

@AgneDei
@AgneDei 2 жыл бұрын
@@metatechnologist Also realistically, for air cover, anything less than 2 F22 and 2 F15's wouldn't make sense for such a big strike force. And obviously the simulation should be done at night. No one would send B2's for a strike during the day time. Also the B2's should be spread out during the attack, as otherwise, just from the bombs radar tracking info it would be very easy to send fighters in the right area after they dropped the bombs, and even potentially loosing those B2's would be a bad deal. It would also make more sense to hit the main ship with a couple jasm-er from even an F-16, and instead of the B-2's you could then use plain old B-52's to rain bombs on the rest of the fleet.

One version of events is that the Bayraktars were distracting the Moskva cruiser while two anti-ship missiles hit. An alternative theory which I have heard is that the Neptune missiles drew the attention of the ship's countermeasures since that's the sort of attack they would know how to defend. The TB2s were supposedly just for targeting, but in fact they could also have dropped bombs that hit the on-deck munitions, setting off the explosions. The cruiser has good defences against large missiles but might not have anything against the little bombs that the TB2s can drop.

There appears to be an image of the cruiser after it was hit and before it sunk. The RL Moskva was seriously damaged today by something. The Ukrainians claimed to have hit it with two missiles from a hidden Neptune missile battery. The Russians say it was a fire onboard that set off some ammunition. So, if it is now inoperable, is the rest of the Black Sea Fleet now vulnerable to high altitude air strikes like you folks demonstrated?
@jmkhenka
@jmkhenka 2 жыл бұрын
ironic - 30 missiles cant sink a DCS fleet. In reality, all it took was 2. Shows the innaccuracy of DCS when it comes to missiles and spotting stuff. This is probably the first recorded anti ship operation in modern history where two equals (in tech) met. Pentagon and everyone else in navy ops are now scared shitless as it proves that they all rely on theory of anti missile systems and radars.. and it failed in reality. One thing to be out in open sea with no civilians but in a small area like the black sea with outside interference a anti ship missile is way more effective then previous thought.
@whousley
@whousley 2 жыл бұрын
@@jmkhenka Maybe you have more up to date info than I do...but those particular missiles are subsonic and have small warheads. They shouldn't have been able to close with a guided missile cruiser, much less seriously damage it. However, if it was operating too close to shore, or the crew didn't react to the threat competently, or if that ship had design flaws that meant that it really can't take hits, then those could have all been factors...and none of us would be surprised by any of those factors given what we've already seen of the Russian military during this conflict. Regardless, Turkey had closed the entrance to the Black Sea to all warships, so if they can't repair that cruiser and put it back into service, then there likely won't be another to replace her within the scope of this conflict. Edit: Also, I don't believe for a second that anything can damage that ship enough to require evacuation...and yet not kill anyone on board. That's just silly.
