Based on your real world experience, would it actually require complete destruction of the convoy to prevent it from continuing their mission? Would the Germans have really moved ahead with the trying to besiege Tobruk after losing 25% (or more) of their soldiers and assets? Is their a point where the instinct for self-preservation takes hold? Thank you for helping me understand. Take care.

It’s not done anything to show the inability of the Mi-24. The only images and videos you’ve seen has been the losses. Of which there is visual evidence of 40 aircraft losses. Out of 1,600 sorties. LOL speaking of "not the prettiest landing, but I'm down", my worst landing was in Afghanistan. We had a target within visual of the FARP with the Task Force on the target. So since we could keep eyes on each other from the FARP we decided to rotate into the FARP so as to provide continuous coverage. Lead FARPed first, once complete we came to the FARP. Around 40-50 feet above the ground Betty went off with a Utility Hydraulic Pressure Low followed by smoke in the cockpit. At this stage we opted to simply land before losing hydraulics and attempting a run-on landing. By the time I touched down the cockpit was completely filled with smoke, each of us ripped open the canopy door as we completely lost the Utility Hydraulics and completed an emergency engine shutdown. Turns out, the wrong hose was installed on the aircraft and had worn through.

The Ah-64 can potentially reload ammo in 30 seconds, but even if it took 60 seconds, the Apaches IRL would simply OBLITERATE the Afrika Korps assault. The Germans had field AA and a few batteries of 88mm guns, so they would have to be taken out quickly by flanking 'pop-up' attacks - bread and butter for the Apache. German tanks and armoured infantry had only rifle calibre machineguns (possibly with a few mounted 20mm AA-vehicles), so they would pose little threat to attacking Apaches. The FAB would also have been well protected by 3 Australian infantry brigades, and 2 more covering the flanks, plus a British armoured brigade and an AA brigade.

@@AnthonyCarrierKZfaq Sorry to say that, an Apache helicopter M230 chain barrel cannon carries an 30mm warhead of HEI (high explosive incendiary), HEDP (high explosive dual purpose) and HEI-T (high explosive incendiary-tracer) warhead those type of warhead can do great damage to ground attack, it can do more damage than the API rounds (Armor precing incendiary). The Apache helicopter M230 can carry upto 1200 rounds, that an enough round to shoot and neutralize the enemy target, but there is an problem is that you need an sufficient range to aim at the enemy target and accuracy to hit the target. Even that the high explosive has a damage radius, it can blow up an tank armor and HEDP round can give more strong punch than the API rounds. So the HEI rounds is a deadly warhead than the API rounds.

In your HUD, there is a "large box" and a "small box" that will be either solid or dashed. Be sure to launch the missile when the box is solid. If dashed, you can "step on the box" by applying pedal to that side which will bring the box more towards the centerline. At some point, it will go solid and you can launch.

29:10 thats not what danger close means or is used for. during a call for fire, whoever is calling for fire states danger close if friendly troops are potentially in the splash zone of the ordenance called in. for CAS with guided weapons, typically danger close would be friendly troops within 600 meters of the target. the larger the ordonance being called in, the larger the radius of danger close becomes with it extending out to even 2.5km's for naval gunfire. it doesn't mean anything in reference to the position of enemy troops though.

The Hellfire will not miss based upon any rudder movement, it is laser guided and as long as the seeker locks onto the laser it is going to hit whatever the laser is on. Also, you can get two or three missiles in the air at a time. Simply start with your further target so the smoke doesn't obstruct your laser. Then give yourself several second between missiles. After your first target is destroyed, bring the laser down into the dirt in front of your killed target, walk it to the next target and paint it, wash/rinse/repeat. The missile will create its own trajectory, all you have to do is make sure the seeker is tracking the laser. Also, their is nothing out there in WW2 armor that the Hellfire will not destroy. As for not using the gun, the gun will punch through most armor of that era.

@Grim Reapers the only issue I have with the whole premise of this video is that you are looking at it from in a game prospective rather than if it would be possible in really life. As a guy who was an US Army Apache Armt Dog who worked on the busiest FRAP in Iraq during the Surge. I telling you that a typical FRAP pad crew consists of 2 Armt Dogs(one of which is the pad chief who controls everything happening on the pad) and 2 fuelers. In order to reload and Apache that has run dry while heavy hogging it would take 9 Armt Dogs including the pad chief, this I because it requires two men per hellfire, which would give you 2 pairs per side of the bird. It would still take 10 minutes if you had perfect crews and have a pad pre-staged with enough hellfires that are all of the type that you want loaded. But that would be an issue because you would violate safety restrictions about the amount of ordinance on the pad with one reload, much less being able to handle multiple birds. If you started adding reloading the 30mm into the process it would take even longer, because basically your pad chief would have to do that while directing everything else.

According to Casmo, the option to fly up and attack down is to allow the missle to pick up laser designation from other sources more easily and to avoid obstructions between the tank and the Apache launching that might detonate or interfere with Hellfire. A Javeline uses top attack because it has a relatively small warhead.

*The answer is 'Yes/No/and 'Maybe'* *Luftwaffe pilots were notorious for 'pressing an attack' and Helos are very vulnerable close-up and ground-fire from an '88' is just as deadly now as it was then* __________ *Main rotors cannot withstand being 'off-balance' for long and neither can the power-train which does not tolerate 'off-center' force vectors without bearings failing from unequal pressures* ___________

A bit of a turkey shoot with modern tech against WW2. It would be interesting to see how the Apaches would perform if the Germans were also provisioned with equivalent era equipment.

It's only a 20lb warhead. More than enough to obliterate a tank, but much much smaller than most fixed wing air to ground weapons. So the answer is a lot.

Should have used hand held Laser Target Designators in the field. That way, you don't even have to show your chopper to the enemy, you could literally all just hide behind a hill and fire your rockets, like fire and forget. The men in the field with the laser target designators would make sure all were hits.
