What do you think a single-digit handicap would shoot at The Country Club in Brookline, MA under U.S. Open conditions? With super long holes, punishing rough, and lightning-fast greens it won't be easy.

Great! I was looking forward to another video. Hey EAL, I was hoping that in future videos you might spotlight some of the big trees on the courses you visit. They're often storied and for many players they're sort-of like friends you always get to visit with when you play a familiar course. I know that some trees in the UK are historical trees with special significance. And if you find yourself in British Columbia, I hear that old giant trees are all over there. Trees and native plants make not make for good interviews but they're a fun feature to enjoy on many courses.

26:08 Always remember folks, in this situation where you see the green at the far end of the shot-window? The entire purpose of this hole is to entice players to go for the green, totally thinking that they can carry that entire distance and not leave the ball short and left or right in trouble. He's on a downhill lie in the rough under a branch which doesn't completely obscure the shot but it's definitely going to control the shot-window high. So he needs that ball to stay low under that branch. If it hits that branch, where it goes will be total luck. Off an uphill lie out of the rough, with a 4-iron, 200 yards to the center. Ball below his feet slightly, with his shotline straight to the left side of the green. He's going to try to bump and run a 4 iron onto the green. He has at most a 5 deg window to play that shot. The layout has already taken 1 stroke off him on the tee-shot. He's about to give it at least another stroke. There is just no fucking way that he's going to put that 4-iron onto the green. The very best possible outcome here is that he plays out to the fairway and hits on the green in 3. And wonder of wonders, holy of holies, he actually pitched that ball to the right front edge of the green, just on the fringe. Now here I have to say one thing. That shot took a lot of balls...combined with very-little brains. But he pulled it off, and now he has one shot to be proud of. And when you hear golfers talk about "the Golf Gods"? That's what they're talking about. You can't make a dumb shot if you're too smart to even try it, and that's what often happens when you get dumb enough to try, the Golf Gods will reward you with a good result. But then again when you're +13 after 8 on a video where you're supposed to be breaking 90, you're staring at another double on #9 and still have the back to play which means you're looking at 105, possibly 110 if things really get ugly? What the fuck do you really have to lose. The pitch out of the rough was not a bad idea especially give n that window, the problem was pitching it to the GREEN which was just asking for it to go in the water. And it did come fairly close to going into the water. Even pitching "long" like that was still asking for it to hit a tree next to the green and bounce into the water. That shot was so stupid that it is hardly funny and it was a really lucky result given all the peril there in the shot. But hey he made it to the fringe meaning that he didn't have to actually chip to the hole. So instead he putted 10 feet left of the pin. Same result, just much more "interesting" than chipping to the fairway and pitching on the green. Maybe he'd tried and failed to do that one time too many. Well, now you have a 10-footer across the fall-line for par.

Left to right putts are so hard and fall low a lot because people look at the hole as a target and tend to push their club towards that. From now on when its a left to right putt find a target left of the hole and dont look at the hole again. I have found that this has helped my left to right putts a lot. Awesome video.

I’m not a pro or a single digit HDCP but I play a ton off of a 13 hdcp. I’ve had tough rounds as well but frankly, I usually don’t see every fairway missed by the single digit hdcp’ers I play with and under 100 yards was pretty rough as well for someone claiming to be single digits. it’s a rough game but dang, sometimes I wonder about vanity handicaps….Sure, this course played long but he missed every fairway and hit at least 2 OB off the tee…agree; put the driver away at minimum

I know it's hard to get onto these courses for this kind of shoot but have you considered trying to arrange a practice round before the actual filming. Obviously, the pros get some time to get to know the intricacies of each hole before the competition and I think Erik would benefit from the same instead of going in blind and learning the course as he goes. I wanna see him break 90 out there because it seems possible if he had a better game plan to attack these tough setups.

The pros would obliterate that course in its setup on this video. Rough is manageable. Greens are slow. I’d say at least 1/2 of the field would finish par or better. It’ll be interesting to see the setup for the Open.

And after round 1, there are 42 players at par or better. Pretty manageable for the US Open. Let’s see what adjustments they can make, but I’m sticking with my earlier prediction.

First break 90 I've watched for a while. Seems like your game has only gotten worse the more you play 😂 Keep grinding mate!

Love this! Just walked the course today for practice round. And I’m playing the country club in September. Won’t be the open course but def gunna try to get some hints from EALs play!
