The title of this video made me laugh out loud. A touching item: Fred Astaire penned a condolence letter following the death of Webb's mother. Postmarked October 19, 1960, it was sold online in 2006. Heritage Auctions still has a scan of it on their website. Wish I would have bid. :o)

Did i miss something? His mum was discussed a lot here, but not his sexuality. In any event, the more appropriate question is Could Clifton Webb have been anything else? Answer: No. Watch him in The Razor's Edge as a bitter loveable old queen. It was his best performance cuz it wasn't a performance. It was Clifton irl.

I can't believe you used the phrase "unless he was caught balls deep....! 😛" DUH! Clifton Web, NOT being gay is more of a shock. Sad that he, like so many, could not be out then. "Dandy," as you called him, is as close as this character type you could get as a descriptor. Hollywood never knew what to do with a leading actor (or actress) who did not fall into a sex symbol context. Unless they were 'fuckable' they did not know how to promote them.
@samadams6487
@samadams6487 Жыл бұрын
Well the reason why they could not be out then is because we had morality then. Judeo-christianity was a thing it's eventually going to be as well. The shit that's going on now grooming of children with drag queen shows, trust me, as an engineer looking at system stability, we are heading for a major conflagration of an exceptionally violent nature and it may be the only thing that puts us on a course correction before we self-destruct. And we are on a self-destructive path but there will be a correction and that correction will be beyond anything I've ever experienced before.

It is amazing to me that Webb and Fred Astaire never made a movie together since Webb was a singer and dancer , He made a non singing/dancing movie with Ginger Rogers . I think of the The Band Wagon, instead of the similar Jack Buchanan . I also read somewhere that in their earlier days on Broadway Webb and William Frawley of later ILL fame had some type of disagreement and Frawley punched Webb in the nose . Everyone knows of the famous picture taken of Clifton Webb seemingly minding his business while Jayne Mansfield is showing up Sophia Loren at that dinner , but where is the picture of Webb eating candy with Marilyn Monroe and the third lady from ?

He seems like he was petrified to have a fling with another man for fear someone might find out he was gay. Robert Wagner said Webb was going to marry when he was a young guy, but Webb's mother was too overbearing, so the wedding was squashed. I think that was bull becuase Robert Wagner was a friend of Clifton Webb's, and I think Robert Wagner is trying to protect Webb's image. Many of the movie stars of the golden era of Hollywood who were alive in recent times, would still never reveal fellow movie stars who were in the closet even though the actor or actress has been long dead.

Sorry. I could not listen to this to the end, although I enjoyed the part of the video when you were discussing Webb's career and his relationship with his mother. All the talk of ghostly sightings however, bored me to tears. Such things have never been my experience and furthermore, the use of psychics and the contacting of 'spirits' of the dead, smacks to me of the demonic. Such matters instinctively invoke a visceral response of disgust in me. That being said, I respected Webb as an actor and perhaps my favourite role of his was in "The Razor's Edge".
