If u have a staple gun, you can simply staple a piece of rope to the door, and then just pull the rope to open the door. Or fix the handle obviously. But if u want a DiY solution. Some ropes actually look good depending on how they are made.

i think it's something to do with the lock part that sticks on the side of the door. that doesn't fall off with the handle, so it's still jammed in there.
