I thinks shunsuis bankai is a GREAT counter to Gremmy. The bankai induced depression which could make Gremmy think self destructive thoughts. And the moment he thinks that it’s over for him.

Shunsui is the MVP here. Not only does his Bankai induce depression, but his Zanpakuto in general imposes its own rules on reality. He could force Gremmy to only attack when he calls out a color, or kill Gremmy instantly by making him 'it', or force Gremmy along the play of his Bankai until his inevitable death. I think a lot of people forget that Gremmy isn't the only reality warper here.

Guys there are limitations to Gremmy's powers that you're completely ignoring... an example being he is limited to his speed of reaction (if he can't react fast enough and is blitzed then it doesn't matter). Another example is that he can only imagine a few things at a time and if there's a lapse in that imagination, it goes away (meaning that what he imagines isn't permanent)

Most of these fights end with Gremmy SelfDestructs. Vs Toshiro when he sees an ice wave coming he would have a small thought in his head of “oh shit that looks bad I might get frozen” then he freezes himself. Every single thing Gremmy imagines comes true so he can’t for a single second doubt his abilities or he just loses

The problem I see with this is first you're scaling this based off of his ability and not the actual character. His ability is broken in the right hands, but for Gremmy anyone around Shikai Kenpachi's level should be able to deal with him.

Y’all are definitely selling Gremmy’s abilities too high lol. Gremmy is as he said “The most powerful Sternritter” not most powerful Quincy! You have the Schuttzstaffel the Elite Guard and then Ywach himself. Kenpachi was the one who said that Gremmy was the most powerful Quincy. But Gremmy has limitations because if not he literally could do something like become Ywach or give himself the power of Ywach. Other thing that shows his limitations is the fact that he couldn’t think of a way to beat Kenpachi but by the way y’all try to explain it like he just can’t lose but he obviously did because if not where is he now? He killed himself but that was because he couldn’t figure out a way to win! And last to show his limitations he was literally locked in a prison because he was crazy like literally mentally ill crazy why did he just not imagine himself not locked up? And y’all for some reason look over the fact that Gremmy has a legit mental problem and Shunsui’s Bankai literally affects people’s emotions by making them feel hopeless and depressed. Now imagine someone like Gremmy who’s already mentally ill becoming hopeless and depressed! Gremmy may win but y’all are selling him a bit too high honestly!

lmfao ya'll overestimate gremmy way too much. in no universe does gremmy beat yamamoto. "A battle between shinigami is a battle between reiatsu" -aizen, and the same logic can be applied with every character with reiatsu in Bleach. Gremmy's reiatsu just wont be enough to warp the reality of Yama's body. An example would be that Gremmy didn't reality warp or manipulate Kenpachi's body in any way such as turning Kenpachi's bones into cookies. Because Kenpachi just has that much more reiatsu than Gremmy, his body wouldn't be affected by imaginations like that (just like how Soi Fon's 2 hti kill poison had no affect on Aizen) but instead has to rely on other methods to fight kenpachi. Gremmy's reiatsu wasnt strong enough to match with Kenpachi's thats why he died. No matter how calm Gremmy is when fighting Yamamoto he simple wont have enough reiatsu to match and beat Yama. Same thing goes for Shunsui, I believe Shunsui can match or even have greater reiatsu compared to gremmy so he can also beat him or negate his body manipulating imaginations that affects Shunsui himself, so gremmy would have to reply on other things to fight shunsui with such as imagining a metoer or space itself. But gremmy would be caught in the affects of Shunsui's Zanpakuto which then he has to abide by the rules set by his Zanpakuto which would make the fight more even. And technically speaking, Shinji's Shikai could negate the meteor cos he can invert the direction of incoming attacks, and injury locations. So if the meteor is falling down, then his shikai could make it so the impact is above, in the sky and not on the ground. Shinji's shikai also has so much untapped potential cos in the novels he was training to inverse hot and cold..

I think Ukitake is being severely overlooked but it's more so due to us nor getting much info about him. Byakuya on the other hand I think could defeat Gremmy but it would lie in his immense knowledge of Hado and Kido. I also think he would be able to use Gremmys ability against him just like they backfired against him in his fight with Kenny.

The thing about gremmy is that if anybody can make him doubt his own abilities like zaraki did then gremmy basically loses. I feel like captains such as shunsui, byakuya, zaraki, yamamoto, sajin, and unohana would be able to win since they either have overwhelming power or they have such a high battle iq that they could get a sneak attack in that could kill gremmy. Mayuri also wins with ease if he had an hour to prepare.

I do wonder how Gremmy would interact with Ukitake in the event that Mimihage gets involved. With both of them being parts of the Soul King, it seems kinda interesting

I think Gremmy's Schrift "The Visionary" is indeed very powerful but it quite clearly has limitations. It's difficult to point what exactly they are since Kubo doesn't quite say but I think based off the fight and also Yachiru's fight with "The Vanishing Point" we can infer that Gremmy's power although incredibly strong has some major flaws: 1. Gremmy's imagination seems to be limited to things that are concrete rather than things that are abstract. Meaning that Gremmy can imagine his body is stronger than steel but he cannot imagine that his body is "the strongest". Meanwhile Zaraki Kenpachi's ability to cut anything is abstract. It's not something that can really be calculated. If Gremmy tries to imagine something abstract like "I just need to be stronger than the strongest" his vision will apart because such an abstract idea can never be concrete. 2. Gremmy's imagination is limited to his attention span. As soon as he stops thinking about something he imagined it no longer exists. 3. Gremmy's imagination is affected by his state of mind which makes his power a huge double edge sword because if he imagines his own death it will happen. However that said I think in order to conjure something into existence he has to make a conscience effort. Which brings up the next weakness. 4. Gremmy's imagination is something he needs to be actively thinking about. In other words if someone were to get the jump on him and killed him he couldn't simply imagine he wasn't dead because he would be dead. So Gremmy needs to be aware that his enemies are there.

Also, attacking Gremmy faster than he can think literally makes him fodder. You guys completely overlooked the dozens of Kido Byakuya could've used to constantly distract Gremmy and block his attacks. Not to mention the Bakudo he has that could block attacks based on line of sight (Zomari's release). A lot of the captains are speedster and strategists and since Gremmy can only imagine one thing at a time, there's no way you guys are seriously saying Kenpachi who literally only has his cutting power is the only person in the Gotei who can comfortably beat him. Something that I haven’t seen someone mention yet is battle experience. One of the factors that played into Gremmy’s defeat was lack of battle experience. For how overwhelming ridiculous Gremmy’s ability is, his solutions seem relatively simplistic. Soul Reapers use a sword? I’ll make my body harder than a sword. Up to the point of putting Kenpachi in space, everything he imagined was really simple. This shows that Gremmy doesn’t have the battle intelligence to put his busted ability to it’s fullest. His lack of experience leads to the point people are bringing up which is giving him negative thoughts to make him lose through sheer mental diff. There are a couple characters that would feasibly be able to pull this off. Shunsui, Urahara, and Aiken are great examples of people that could completely dismantle Gremmy’s mental stability. Shunsui is the biggest disagreement I have but people have already voiced that.

Also, I don't think Gremmy can imagine out of existence to take away people's powers. His whole deal is bringing his imagination into reality, never once taking something out of reality. Soi Fon's speed might be capable of two tapping Gremmy and putting him down, especially since he dosent know what her shikai does and wouldn't straight up negate the first hit with imagination. Neither would he just imagine away Sajin's immortality because he could've imagined away Kenpachi's power and his ability to cut anything if he was that smart.

nah nah nah, EVERYONE, overates gremmy. Gremy did not force kenpachi into shikai. Kenpachi was playing with gremmy like a toy 😭. At first kenpachi didn't even strike him with steal cutting power like he was literally a toy 😭. Kenpachi was laughing and later in the fight was constantly speed blitzing him and gremmy could not keep up. AND kenpachi had his eyepatch on unlike with unuhuhana AND he was swinging with one hand still lol. It is never stated gremmys power is unlimited only that he can conjure his imagination. If his power was unlimited he would've been much faster and his attacks more potent. He even says when he's dying that no kenpachi what ur saying is only kind of true but my imagination has reached its LIMIT. HIS POWER IS LIMITED. He most likely cannot conjure anything beyond the scope of his spiritual pressure. Anyone fast enough to blitz gremmy is going to beat him straight up. Even if u wana argue against gremmys limits he's the dumbest fighter, and ppl don't take that into account when scaleing him. Like they assume the best of gremmy like no bro has the mind of a child 😭, he's not going to fully utilize his ability even within its limits. He's prob only a little stronger than the second strongest non elite sternritter tbh

Shunsui washes gremmy. He’s also extremely susceptible to speed blitzes. Jushiro is directly comparable to shunsui who is definitely more skilled and much faster than gremmy. Gremmy’s ability is broken, he is not, so stop glazing. Yama stomps, mayuri outsmarts, invulnerable sajin has a chance cuz there is no proof that gremmy can imagine away innate powers, tosh stomps as he was able to freeze and shatter a sword that embodies the concept of the hope of the masses, byakuya likely outsmarts and skill diffs, and even renji probably has a chance. Gremmy is NOT schutzstaffel level; there is a reason he isn’t one.

I think a really interesting situation would be if for in some impossible scenario shinji forced him to create clones then popped his bankai. Then it’s just Gremmy clones fighting each other which would be insane

If Gremmy can’t imagine himself being as strong as Kenpachi he is not beating RG training Byakuya. Adult Toshiro is definitely winning. Gremmy's ability is being extremely oversold here, he isn't beating any of the upper tier captains Shunsui especially and his greatest weakness is his own mind once you get him to doubt or stop thinking he's done you can basically manipulate is mind and he can't think your body is a cookie if your spiritual pressure is higher than his. And Shunsui bankai is reality warping it cant be nagated like that if he could negate shikai and bankai then kenpachi would have never won. All Shunsui has to do against his meteor is hide in his shadow and cut his head off he is a cunning fox that will do anything to win.

The fight with Gremmy vs Yamamoto would turn out the exact same way with Yamamoto vs Wonderwiess. Quite literally. Once Gremmy uses the guns and the smoke clears, a scuffed up Yama will utter, "is that all?" Power up then hit him with the kido destroying him. No bankai needed. Yamamoto isn't going to entertain Gremmy the way Kenpachi did.

Reiatsu negates gremmy's abilities to a degree. It's the reason he couldn't turn Kenny's bones into cookies or why he couldn't just make him explode. He can't just say "ice doesn't work on me". If that were the case, he'd say "swords can't cut me".

Ukitake: I feel like he could do some kido or something. I don't think he would job to Gremmy but I can't back that up. Soifon: Soifon would definitely give gremmy some difficulty. She is fast enough to stop him from thinking by constantly attacking him. But she can't damage him without her shikai. If she doesn't explain the ability she could win. Rather if Gremmy doesn't know what the move does (assuming he never read her daten) then he loses.

For shinji, if Gremmy multiplied. Shinji can go bankai and have them fight each other.

Gremmy's best chance WAS against a relatively slower bruiser like Kenpachi, as his glaring weakness is his reaction time needed to activate the Visionary. He "could" imagine anything he wants, but he needs just enough time and breathing room to think about what he wants to materialize. Anyone faster than Kenpachi with just enough aggro/bloodlust deals with him easily. Anyone that can keep him on the defensive is winning due to him being unable to not overthink in those situations.

You forgot that the way to defeat Gremmy is to distract him, when he is not focused, you can defeat him, like Kenpachi did, and if you are too fast he won’t have the time to imagine something, and Shunsui is a captain who has very tricky moves, so he is able to defeat him, also you said Unohana < base Kenpachi, but Shikai Kenpachi < Bankai Kyoraku and by your logic he still losses, actually, by your logic, Gremmy is able to defeat any captain, even Zaraki with Bankai, but you forgot that he is not Almighty, there is no one who can control his imagination at 100%, there are many things to distract you, and if you fear something, you will be distracted

I think you did unohana a little dirty. She killed kenpachi and then healed over and over again, and did not resolve to quit until he had finally killed her. I think no matter how much gremmy kills her, turns her to dust, imagines her bones being cookies or whatever, she can instantly heal herself and send herself back into the fray. Also Unohana was literally the first kenpachi, and even has the admiration and respect of Yhwach himself due to being from the OG Gotei 13 and still being one of those terrifying thugs from way back when. I think her situation would play out similarly to kenpachi, where Gremmy was so terrified and so rattled by her that he couldn't actually imagine her dead. Not to mention his mental fragility.

You guys forgot kenpachi fought gremmy with the eyepatch on. The Shikai strike in the anime is directly comparable to his kid Zaraki strength which was able to scar unohana but not kill her, Unohana is still stronger. Also captain’s and lieutenants can open doors from dimension to dimension, unohana, shunsui and Byakuya would be able to come back from space as well. Shunsui can use gremmys shadow to escape it as well.

Not gonna lie, this is more of a hypothetical rather than realistic outcomes. Gremmy was scared of base Kenpachi and thought he might lose just because he...cut steel? Kenpachi kind of gave him advice and time to regain composure. Yama, Unohana, Shunsui, Toshiro, Byakuya and even Komamura could rattle him, but they wouldnt let him adjust unlike Kenpachi. Mayuri and Shinji talk to much so idk there. Hell id argue Sui Feng would hit him, he would wonder what the butterfly thing is, then get hit again and die before thinking of a solution. He has a broken ability but is a terrible combatant. I doubt he has knowledge on the captains either since in the manga he was locked up

Y'all highballing Gremmy too much. The problem with The Visionary is that if Gremmy has a *single doubt*, he loses because the doubt gets imposed onto himself. It's not so easy as saying 'I can't be hurt' or 'You die now', Gremmy always has to apply actual constraints to his imagination. For example, he specifically makes his body harder than steel, not invulnerable because our imagination cannot create true invulnerability unless we know exactly how powerful the attack is. I agree with the lower tier captains + Ukitake losing, they're far too weak and non-threatening to really push Gremmy into a corner. Soi Fon maybe has a chance if she psyches Gremmy out with her two-hit kill, but if he realises she's going to end it fast he'll probably pull a meteor out. Shinji also has one edgecase if Gremmy creates clones of himself, but he'd probably blow them all up before they can kill him. Kyoraku does not enjoy drawing out a fight, no clue where y'all got this from. His two fights are long yes, but he always tries to go for the kill. They only go as long because his opponent can keep up with him. The numerous games Kyoraku has will keep Gremmy on his toes, and Shunsui is terrifying when he needs to be. He may not be as serious as Yama or Kenpachi, but his chill demeanour juxtaposed by his actions will throw Gremmy for a loop. His bankai also has an easy wincon by just destroying Gremmy's head. He has no idea what is happening, he'll heal up the wounds, maybe heal up the sickness too, but the final act will kill him because he'd have no clue what is going on until it's too late. Shunsui's bankai is broken, there's a reason someone as powerful as Lille was powerless to do anything against it, he couldn't even fire any attacks while it was happening. Byakuya has a lower chance of winning, but it is definitely plausible. He always goes for the kill quickly, never giving his opponent a chance to breathe. Keep in mind, Gremmy would've died to Zaraki's sealed Nozarashi if he didn't stop and allow Gremmy to recover. Byakuya isn't giving him that chance. If eyepatch Zaraki with a sealed sword can push Gremmy to nearly kill himself, so can EoS Byakuya with Bankai. Y'all are overlooking how much Zaraki drew out his fight with Gremmy to enjoy himself, numerous times he stops and goads Gremmy into trying harder instead of ending it, and the fight ends on Gremmy's terms anyway, Zaraki wanted to keep going. This is also why Unohana beats Gremmy. While yes, Shikai Kenpachi is more than what he needed to kill Unohana, again keep in mind that he would've killed Gremmy with his sealed zanpakuto had he not stopped Gremmy from imagining his death. This is also very contentious, and if Unohana draws out the fight then she'll probably lose imo. And it's in character for her to do so, so I'd give her like a 6/10 chance. The rest are pretty accurate, though if you want to include other captains, Aizen and Urahara also stand a high chance, with Gin and Yoruichi as like a 4/10 chance.

I think most captains can take Gremmy, his ability is crazy but he's pretty stupid. Anyone that can scare him, or make him doubt that he can win can probably beat him. For example if Soifon hits him with Suzumebachi and tells him that's an instant kill move Gremmy WILL imagine himself dying and therefore die. The same could be said about Shunsui's bankai. I think the only ones that lose to him are those who blatantly explain their powers (Vizards pretty much), or those who rely on firepower but just don't have enough, such as Komamura or Byakuya. Anyone with some serious hax and some brainpower can easily trick Gremmy into imagining his demise. We don't even know if Schrifts can work on the soul king but I doubt it, so Ukitake probably takes it with Mimihagi's help.

your putting to much emphasis on abilities instead of just plain Power level of the user. Gremmy Imagination ability has limits and its limited to his own energy tier, he needed 2x Boost/Clones to imagine a Country level Meteor, or 6x to Imagine a Space to Trap Kenpachi. people dont understand that there is no such thing as Hax his ability is very powerful but it has its own laws/rules

I think byakuya might win you guys using ridiculous scenarios to make gremmy win and that's so wrong because we didn't see him using his ability like that because he lacks a lot of intelligence (like imagine the power of imagination in the hands of aizen or urahara ) and this is why people overrate gremmy.

I feel like there's a general misunderstanding of Gremmy vs. Kenpachi here. Gremmy absolutely could have just imagined Kenpachi (or anyone really) dead/cookie/whatever right as the battle started, but because he got dragged into a challenge of wanting to overcome Kenpachi, he didn't really use his powers as effectively. It limited his imagination and the things he used, to the point that at the end of the fight he couldn't imagine being as strong as Kenpachi and lost. He was trying to best Kenpachi physically for the entire fight because he wanted to prove he was the strongest, which honestly is the only way Kenpachi wins. A more thorough and interesting review of these battles would probably include if any of the captains would/could force him down a similar self-limitation by virtue of their skillsets/personalities, since Gremmy's real weakness is a general lack of battle experience and frankly how heavily his personality cripples his ridiculous ability.

I looked at it as there are multiple timelines and your decision forge whichever timeline. So it could've gone either way. Kratos dies by his son. Or becomes the God he deserved to be seen as.
