Being Patient spoke with Dr. Albert Garcia-Romeu about the link between psychedelics and brain health, and what it might mean for Alzheimer's research.
Our mission is to give people impacted by dementia a better resource and connection to experts at the forefront of research. Our founder Deborah Kan funded Being Patient solely with her own savings to understand if people would value such a resource. Our audience has grown so rapidly, we have exciting plans for the future to enhance our coverage even further but we need your help. Please consider making a contribution to help fund Being Patient's editorial costs. We employ a team of journalists to give you the best possible information on dementia and brain health without bias.

Gave my father with Alzheimer’s disease 2 grams of psilocybe cubensis abort strain in the form of tea. His symptoms seem to reversed after one dose. I have a running document of times and dates that I administer to my father and documenting his symptoms as they seem to reverse. I also have documented what his diet is and his sleeping patterns. I would love to hand over my work to an open minded doctor or scientist so that they can conduct further research as my knowledge and resources are limited.

hey I'm interested in knowing more about how your father got better. Did you give it to him more times? How is he doing now ?

@@flowlabmusic he’s doing well, I microdose him now to try and keep the disease from coming back. I do think that Alzheimer’s does cause permanent damage so he isn’t 100% but he’s not having days where he doesn’t remember anyone or not knowing where he is anymore. I give him a microdose once ever 2-3 days. Anything more than that and the mushrooms don’t seem to have an effect do to the tolerance building up.

Very excited to see the future of how psychedelics will be used to heal. A long road ahead but well worth it.

changing someones thought patterns can also have affects on breaking addiction and certain habits like Albert Garcia said about lab mice. This could possibly help patients with the long term battle of staying sober with a below average dose, or just even microdosing. Helping keep them from falling back into bad habits and thought patterns, and to promote new path ways to form.

You are throwing out hypothetical here and giving psychedelics way too much credit with no understanding. As someone that was an addict to substance and also have lots of psychedelics experiences including large dosages, I’m talking 15g of psilocybin etc. psychedelics are not helping anyone that is a heroin or crack cocaine addict and has those neural pathways formed to all the sudden not be addicted. I can go on about this from lots of anecdotal experience. If you have any questions then ask

The psychedelic experience is to be revered, not feared. The "trip" that some people are so scared of is part of the deal. You want to change your brain in hours? Step up and face what that feels like.

If they find it actually helps it will be the biggest news of the century. But right now there is no definitive proof so it stays in early stages of testing. Its not a conspiracy

They don't want the information out. They've known for a long time how healing these natural medicines are. Most of them probably use them themselves. There's too much money to be made on their dirty chemicals so they will drag this out as long as they can. There are plenty of people who have known for thousands of years generationally, just how amazing and Powerful this natural medicine is. It was hidden and made illegal for a reason. When I say natural I am referring to psilocybin mushrooms. Not LSD

if it makes you feel any better... hundreds of millions of people already know this and eat psychedelics. there's really only about 1,000 billionaires controlling the planet, and those are the ones who have arrived at some weird racist ideas about drugs and psychedelics psychedelics have been around for 10,000 years of human history at least it's only in the 1950s some weird racist billionaires decided to try making drugs illegal prior to that? EVERYBODY ALREADY KNEW THIS

@@spellbreaker1191 How would one go about helping someone, using dried hydros? Not sure if the variety, as it shifts from time to time, but they are usually decent decent…. Have you a method? Doses based on weight, and times between sessions, etc., and whatever else you can share? Someone I love very much is getting lost in the darkness, and I’d love to be able to use these gifts from GOD; from the Universe, to help save her, or at the very least, slow the process, and give her more time…. Please let me know….

Check out MAPS (multidisciplinary association for psychedelic studies). Lots of information and studies cited to help inform one about these substances. Microdosing is a great technique, one brought up by Mr. Garcia. Check out more about the psilocybin studies and treatment regimens. They have 12 sessions, only 3 of which I believe are with the use of psilocybin. Maybe that was the MDMA studies.. either way, check it out. They provide dosing information as well, in regards to the threshold upon which one begins to “feel trippy”

There is no science proving that microdosing isn’t simply placebo. Just do the large dose trips and I mean large doses. Like f ing large.

Hi there, I live in Canada .. my Mom and both of her sister’s have Alzheimer’s... I am turning 57 this year. I don’t have any symptoms at this time. However, I’d say I’m not as sharp as I used to be. I would be willing to participate in your study. I have never taken “magic mushrooms “ in my life. If you comment here , I can give you my private information if you are still needing individuals.
