A smile from this mouth sent shivers down anyone’s spine… Smilodon. They didn’t name him that because he had a friendly smile, no, far from it. Those gigantic teeth also earned Smilodon the name “saber-toothed tiger” though it’s not related to today’s tiger.
But what if Smilodon did live today, whether alongside the tiger or alongside other modern animals. How would that work? Could Smilodon survive? They went extinct once… what would happen if they got a second chance?

Not a pleistocene verson of a Sabertooth. It was suited for its environment. Actually by the time humans Actually made it to North America the ice age megafauna were already in decline. Matter of fact up until 14,000-10,000 years ago southern California deserts were grasslands and semi Forrest. They just don't have the habit.

Smilodon is one animal that is better off gone. They were once the natural predator of humans. If they were brought back, they would quickly become extinct in the wild and only allowed to live in zoos.

They would not necessarily become extinct but would not be able to coexist in close proximity to heavily human populated areas, similar to polar bears.

Just need to poach the poachers for theirs. Smilodons are protected, they eat the poachers, and we have a bunch of gold teeth to sell. Win Win.

@@freshguy4 no doubt. Whales for the blubber, elephants for the ivory, alligators for the scale/hide, etc etc. As long as someone with more dollars than sense wants something, poachers will accommodate.

I don't think adaptability to climate or co-existing with other predators would be a problem, the main thing I think would be finding enough food. Adding another predator of this magnitude would throw off the whole ecological balance.

Of course, pepple love a great smile nowadays. But seriously, if smiledon went extinct when its main prey went extinct and equivalent prey does not exist today, then it would be logical to presume it could not survive today. But perhaps it may survive in Africa where it can hunt young elephans and other large animals like giraffes, wilderbeasts, etc.

When did Smilodon live in any place outside the Americas? You are possibly getting Smilodon mixed up with another, smaller sabre-tooth cat called Megantereon. Other than that, a fantastic vid & commentary.

In the warmer, more rainforest areas, their common prey will be tapirs, capybaras, and wild boars. But their potential prey Can be Coatis, Primates, Etc.

I believe that Smilodon can thrive Nowadays and in my opinion I think they can survive nowadays especially in North America where they have to learn to hunt and avoid other predators.

The clouded leopard isn't actually a sabertooth cat.They are so called due to the fact that they have proportionally the largest canines of any cat.

What caused them to become extinct, in the first place? Answering that question will give you an answer as to whether Smilodon would exist today.

to make silodons safe to bring back from it's ice age extinction event we would have to use the capybara dna to fill in the gaps of there genomes and so that way they would be safe to have around our present timeline for as we know it

That's not actually logical at all. There could be a distinct reason why it went extinct. That may not be a factor today. Such as weather.
