With all due respect, Jerry put on an All Time Performance of 38/5/7 on 57% TS (14/28 FGM & 10/12 FTM per game). He put up the 2nd highest PTS total, 4th highest FGA & 6th highest FTA for a Finals series in history. He was more deserving and outplayed Hondo who I assume would be next in line.

Curry is by far the best player in this series in the first 4 games. Tatum might not even win it right now over Brown. I don't watch the Celtics much but have watched all their games 2nd round on and Tatum is just so frustrating. He settles for 3s when things get tough and does not go strong to the rim. His drives are usually casual strolls through the lane where he is off balance and fading away from the rim trying to draw a foul. Go up strong. Score over someone or through some. Todays NBA is so frustrating because 90% of the top players just shoot 3s so when its good its good but if its not good then they look overrated. Even bigs like Embiid and KAT want to be 3 point shooters. No wonder former players don't respect todays game. Its soft and relies on one play.

2018 LeBron, had he not gotten injured and by some miracle dragged that series out to 7 games, had a case for winning the Finals MVP even though he lost against that godly 2018 Warriors team. Curry would need to play like he did in game 4 for the rest of the series, maybe even better, in order to even consider winning Finals MVP on a losing team.

I'm not against the idea but the series would have to go 7 games and the person on the losing team would have to be averaging some pretty other worldly numbers and right now steph isn't if this were to go 7 games and steph was averaging like 38+ ppg than I probably woul vote for him but I think right now he's only at 34 ppg which is simply not enough for me because we've seen multiple players do that in recent years and they've won the finals
@galbal9597
@galbal9597 2 жыл бұрын
Once you consider the underlying stats, he does have an argument. lets compare it to lebron who had 4 votes in 2015: steph is shooting 10% higher from 3pt than lebron shot FG (not 3pt %, FG). His true shooting % is over 60%. He is shooting 10 less shots per game than lebron yet scoring only 2ppg less. He has the 2nd highest points per minute in finals history. He is doing all this with a much lower usage rate, allowing other players to have more shots (klay is attempt 17 shots per game and wiggins 15), whereas with lebron, none of his teammates shot over 9 per game and by team FGA %, lebron shot 38% of cavs shots while steph is shooting 26% of gsw fga. Offensively steph is certainly better than 2015 lebron and there is a bit of a gap, however lebrons defense balances it out I dnt think he should get it if he lost, but if he continues on this trajectory, he would really make it an argument

Value doesn't have to mean a team wins. It's the difference between what they would be without you subtracted from what they are with you. What you add to the equation. If a 30 win team wins 50 games with a guy like Jokic, it's no different than Jokic helping a 10 win team win 30 games. Their value is identical (20 wins) regardless of how many wins the team has in the end. It's an INDIVIDUAL award for a TEAM sport

As a Celtics fan this is what I don't like about Bill Simmons, Ryen, and the media at large, Bill Casually mentions Jaylen Brown as a FMVP candidate and then throws Tatum in there which as it currently stands make no sense for Tatum to be in the discussion and then Ryen basically says if the Tatum has a good game or two and the Celtics win he gets FMVP. On what Earth and with what eyes are ppl watching where ppl think Tatum deserves FMVP the only consistently good player for the Celtics game in and game out so far is Jaylen Brown so if he keeps playing at this pace the Cs win no way in fuck he shouldn't get the award.

It's very weird how the media cape for Curry, they shame other PGs for not being able to carry their teams but when Curry is asked to do the same thing "well, he can't do everything on his own" when he plays with a significantly better team that sales out to get him open looks. Then last year, during the MVP voting he came in 2nd place and couldn't even get his team to the playoffs. Now the talk is giving him Finals MVP in a loss, when his team was favored to win it before Game 1 by Vegas. The media won't admit it, but hes judged a curve no other Superstar in NBA history has been allowed.

I disagree that the word valuable insinuates a certain standard of team success. The term valuable indicates value. That's it. With baseball, it isn't possible for one guy to help his team win a ton of games. You can only do so much with the opportunities you are given. Unless you hit a homer every time up, then how could it even be possible to single-handedly carry your team to success? And with basketball, valuable still means value. And value is pretty self-explanatory. If you removed that guy from his team and replaced him with an incredibly average player, how much worse does the team become? Furthermore, if you replaced an incredibly average player on a different team with an incredibly valuable player (Steph, for example), how much better do they become? To me, that's how you define individual player value in team sports. Besides, it works the other way around. If a guy like Trout is the reason they Angels win 81 games instead of 67 games (14 game difference), and a dude like Mookie is the reason the Dodgers win 110 games instead of 102 games (8 game difference), then Trout would still be the more valuable player, regardless of his TEAM's ability to win games.

Using my statistical method to determine finals MVP Using the best player has been finals MVP each of the last 10 years except for 2015, where I had 1. Curry (22.7), 2. LeBron (20.2), 3. Iguodala (19.4) , but all were close enough that Iguodala could have an argument involving clutchness. Right now, Steph has a huge lead in the race for best player in the finals: Score: 1. Steph: 107 (26.7 per game) 2. Brown: 69 (17.3) 3. Timelord: 67: (16.7) 4. Tatum: 61 (15.2) 5. Looney: 61 (15.2) 6. Wiggins: 59 (14.6) 7. Horford: 55 (13.8) For Brown to close that 38 gap in three games he'd have to be 13 better in each of the next three games or 19 in two. An alternative method to determine is to only count the score in wins. That would set the bar lower for a Celtic to win since if they win in 6 they'd just have to be 50% of Curry or 75% of Curry if they win in 7 Here's the leaderboard for score in wins: 1. Steph: 64.8 2. Brown 51.5 3. Horford: 48.5 4. Looney: 45.6 5. Smart: 42.8 6. Timelord: 42.3 7. Tatum: 37.2 8. Wiggins: 32.7 So if Celtics win game 5, that would likely put Brown back at 1 and potentially Horford or Tatum above Curry.

No way, he'd have to average 42+ for the rest of the series. He's not playing better than 2018 Bron did.

Just give it to someone on the winning team. I don't think any losing player actually wants that award anyway.

NOOOOOO! Love Steph but they set a bad precedent by giving West MVP on a loss

If Warriors lost, MVP of this series will definitely be...Iguodala.

I don’t get why splits matter. I don’t get why LeBron is so revered in a series in which he shot 38%.

The Igoudala Finals MVP was terrible and it was a way for the media to vote for LeBron indirectly.

If LeBron in 2015 doesn't win it then I don't see how Steph gets this one.. Not only was LeBron unreal, but nobody on Golden State really stood out (Iggy is arguably the worst finals MVP in NBA history) In this finals, Steph is amazing, but Brown, and maybe even Tatum's numbers will be too good for Steph to walk away with it.

LeBron COULD have won FMVP in 15..but he shot just 40% from the field that series..yes he avg 36 and 13 and Curry had 26-6-5 on 45%. Curry really should have had that 2015 FMVP if we refuse to give it to Bron
