This looks like a money laundering scheme to me, since there is not set market for retro games this guys can inflate them to ridiculous prices and not get into trouble. Because from what i hear this guy who buy the games are not even collectors. But thats just me.

I'm selling games for triple digits that range from PS2 to Switch as I downsize my collections. Stuff is definitely going for more, but it's like a project budget, maybe even a down payment on a house, but that's at best unless you have wanted sealed stuff.

Listen, rarity aside even.. There's ZERO REASON why any of this is going for the prices they are. However, I'm not gonna fight if someone wants to pay close to $300 for Metal Warriors and almost $600 for my Pocky & Rocky 2, but they ain't getting mine.

Gee, it's almost like it would be worth it for WATA and Heritage to spend a couple of million to buy a few of each other's "mint" games at insane prices just so that both could reap the rewards (in commission fees) of thousands of clueless folks who missed out on Gamestop stock flocking to have their stuff graded and put up for auctions.

I appreciate you touching on the difference between owning a game like Stadium Events or NWC, and owning a graded factory sealed SMB that went for $2 million. A game being expensive in the secondhand market doesn’t automatically make it interesting; it has to have a story attached to it or actually be something that you don’t see every collector out there having. I disagree with the collectors out there who are snatching up first print run copies of Breath of the Wild on the Wii U as an investment because of a misprint on the label; I just think something like that is going to be in too many people’s hands already to do that with. Now show me a Star Fox Super Weekend on the other hand, and now you’ve got intrigue. :)

Nothing after time period of SNES should be worth much imo, then again I swing heavy in side of nostalgic or sentimental collecting vs placing monetary value to any of this. Production numbers of anything in recent history is so high, doesnt matter if people have them, still be thousands copies never sold etc in warehouses, scattered throughout stores shelves across the globe. Give someone five cents for misprint of BOTW lol Just too commercial now, way too commercial. See same thing in cards etc too though, people speculating on first edition Flesh and Blood when game is an infant and could be gone in a year(like most new TCGs lol), but hey its a FIRST EDITION YO, up there? Up there its their time with black lotuses and cards in general from games that are decades old and actually had real first editions, beta runs etc, but down here? Down here its our time to waste our money getting in on something “new” people imagine be worth same as what something “old” goes for now, “some day.” Point to CCR song, some day never comes.

Market manipulation.. Could they be worth a lot? yes... but a million or more? no.. not unless your a rich person who owns a grading company who is in coo hoots with a certain auction .. Buy your own game, only to put it away and buy it again year later for more money then have media write about it in the news to get hype around a game/games. Total bullshit.
