Absolutely. Did you know that Graham Linehan gets ZERO money from Netflix for these repeats? It's disgustingly common, apparently.

Must admit I was initially a little disappointed with the television series as compared to the glorious radio series. But I am steadily coming round to it. I did see an interview with Steve Delaney and Graham Linehan in which they said they wanted to write something 'with heart'. So I think the idea was to make Arthur somewhat less irascible than he was on the radio, and concentrate more on his bumbling and bemused persona. Rory Kinnear is an excellent foil for Arthur.

Its well known that in the godfather oranges are always shown before a main character dies. Arthur lords down the street and gets given a mango. Very funny that many may not have got.

I just thought it was some random thing that could only happen to Arthur! Thanks for that.

Arthur ... truly sublime. We live in a time when we have BBC Commissioning Execs with little sense of humour and even less imagination. Where do they get them from ?
@zacmumblethunder746610 ай бұрын
They don't have executives who've worked their way up through the production side anymore. It's all bean-countrs and politically moticated appointments now. Over the last 40 years, the BBC's gradually become a political football for successive governments to use in their point scoring.

Who knows? The man's an enema. Enemy. Endoscope. *Enigma* a bloody Enigma. I said that in the first place if you'd bothered listening. Rewind it when you get home.

Then the count turns up at the cafe and tells Michael that he's a 007 agent (after being put on the short list after a James Bond audition), and leaves them ALL scratching their heads.

There is too much interference from parliament. As long as I can remember (and I'm 59), governments of either persuasion have hated the BBC. They riled the Labour government in the 70s, riled the Tories in the 80s, then began the downhill drift to where they are now. The BBC didn't used to care if tgey uoset politicuans and the chattering classes, but now they desperately chase balance, diversity, digital technology uptake, demographics and the lowest common denominator.

Count Arthur Strong: Michael's Arrest 1012am 13.7.23 i bet that's happened before now.... anyone else umming and arrring as to whether to do their duty and do some jury service... well, if Arthur's a big mover and shaker in the world of mobsters then they must be pig shit thick. ahahahahahahaha...

Not as good as the radio show, but miles better than anything else they were broadcasting. Probably cancelled as it wasn't diverse enough, needing more urban characters with their jeans hanging off their backsides, saying dis instead of this, and dat instead of that. Bruv.🙄

I was a fan of CAS from the radio shows and the live shows so when the TV series happened found it a huge disappointment. Especially the other characters. Even now I find that little vignettes from the series work better which don't feature too many of the other characters for to long. But I find there are parts of it that do work. The 'clocks' episode and the operation were particularly funny and this was good too. I can now take something from the series which is good because CAS is the funniest thing I've seen for years. I really do.

That's what happens when mainstream tele gets hold....its sanitised,dumbed down and the need to find a wider audience, although I must admit I enjoyed very much, comparing a radio show which leaves everything to imagination, to TV which needs no imagination will never find it matching up to the original for the CAS officianados...
@zacmumblethunder746610 ай бұрын
@BeasleyStreet There's an interview with CAS on the first DVD. He's still Arthur, but lucid and affable without the mannerisms, bluster and confusion. It's as though Arthur is a real person performing as the character Count Arthur Strong in the way Lucille Ball and Tony Hancock performed as characters they'd created.
