Picaud was placed under a form of house arrest in the Fenestrelle Fort, where he served as a servant to a rich Italian cleric. When the cleric died, he left his fortune to Picaud, whom he had begun to treat as a son. Picaud then spent years plotting his revenge on the three men who were responsible for his misfortune.

@Infernape19984 жыл бұрын
You and Edmond mean Albert Dantes in this case.
@tiagokiritsuguemiya47383 жыл бұрын
They kill Albert and all the problems are over. Edmond was executed in prison and the problems were over. Useless speech. 'In fact,' here the stranger turned to Berlioz, ' imagine what would happen if you, for instance, were to start organising others and yourself, and you developed a taste for it--then suddenly you got. . . he, he ... a slight heart attack . . . ' at this the foreigner smiled sweetly, as though the thought of a heart attack gave him pleasure. . . . ' Yes, a heart attack,' he repeated the word sonorously, grinning like a cat, ' and that's the end of you as an organiser! No one's fate except your own interests you any longer. Your relations start lying to you. Sensing that something is amiss you rush to a specialist, then to a charlatan, and even perhaps to a fortune-teller. Each of them is as useless as the other, as you know perfectly well. And it all ends in tragedy: the man who thought he was in charge is suddenly reduced to lying prone and motionless in a wooden box and his fellow men, realising that there is no more sense to be had of him, incinerate him. 'Sometimes it can be even worse : a man decides to go to Kislovodsk,'--here the stranger stared at Berlioz--' a trivial matter you may think, but he cannot because for no good reason he suddenly jumps up and falls under a tram! You're not going to tell me that he arranged to do that himself? Wouldn't it be nearer the truth to say that someone quite different was directing his fate?' The stranger gave an eerie peal of laughter. Berlioz had been following the unpleasant story about the heart attack and the tram with great attention and some uncomfortable thoughts had begun to worry him. ' He's not a foreigner . . . he's not a foreigner,' he thought, ' he's a very peculiar character . . . but I ask you, who is he? . . . ' - Masster and Margarita by Bulgakov

It's a nice sentiment, but I think Albert was merely a means to an end. A way to further gain the trust of the Mondego household and more importantly, Mercedes' trust. Remember: at this point in the story, Dantes' goal is to utterly destroy both Fernand and Mercedes, so it's difficult to accept that he would have any warm feelings for whom he believed to be their son.

What I really love about this is that Edmond has genuine sympathy for Albert and doesn’t have a ‘sins of the father’ mentality here. He sees how disappointed he is that his father(as far as he knows) is not there to give him his birthday toast so he gives a justified reason to him why he didn’t show up to give him a good birthday. He still feels rage towards Mercedes as when she silently thanks him he turns away without acknowledging it showing us that he really did it just for Albert. This shows us that beneath all the hatred, Edmond never truly lost his kindness.

This is my favorite scene in the ENTIRE movie bc so much is happening and almost all of it is nonverbal acting and acted AMAZINGLY. Mercedes walks to the table clearly upset for her son but sits down and pulls herself together. Albert looks expectantly at his mother, silently asking where father is. Mercedes tries and fails to gives him a reasuring smile, but albert is crushed as he understands that his father cant be bothered to come to his birthday. Edmund looks between the two seeing that something is going on but its not until mercedes stands up that u see him understand, b4 she even speaks, and empathizes with both of them. When the count first starts u see that albert knows hes lying but is touched nonetheless. And is genuinely moved as the count finishes. Then you get mercedes quitely mouthed "thank you" that edmund humbly brushes off AND THEN THE GRAND REVEAL where he start unconsciously fiddling with his hair and mercedes KNOWS. Brilliant brilliant scene

Grande storia. 💖💖💖
