Hi Gary, I have "From Salerno to Rome" on the table right now. It's a clever design. Not only is it a great looking game, but in only 14 pages of rules, the designer gives the players a lot of options. The allied hammer blows are parried by German tactical flexibility. Great stuff.

Those Three Crown WWII games are basically the same system as A Victory Lost, definitely worth a look.

The games did draw heavily from the 'A Victory Lost' design in their first set of games but appear to have evolved as the series has continued. The games, which tend to cover neglected battles, incorporate special rules and chrome which complicate decision-making rather nicely and do a fine job simulating the problems that commanders faced. @justegarde has done some fine videos, as usual, of their work.

A good start with Napoleonics might be Phalanx's Coalitions. Not something hardcore, but a fun strategic level view, something to go with Commands and colors but onth strategic. I would say that Friedrich and Maria share a lot of the same engine, but they feel so different that it might not just be about topic which one you prefer. I Prefer Maria but think the 7 years war is more interesting. Friedrich is peculiar cause it is a one vs all game, and you shift between which country you play as the game progresses. Also, I wouldn't play Maria at 2.

Live stream is 3 AM my time so I doubt I'll be making one unless I'm visiting my son.

Thanks for this episode. 'Codeword Cromwell' assumes that Seelowe worked and the game is close to an RPG of the result on a tactical/village level. Fifth Column Games has been moribund for some years now, as the owner returned to journalism full-time, but the quality of the games endures.

Hey. Snafu is Spanish, or Catalan if you prefer, but not Portuguese.
