The announcement by Ireland, Spain and Norway on the recognition of a Palestinian state is perceived by Israel as a major blow. Nomi Bar-Yaacov, international negotiator and Senior Research Fellow in the International Law Programme at Chatham House tells FRANCE 24's Mark Owen that the key missing element from their respective speeches in recognition of the Palestinian state is explaining to Israel how the existence of a Palestinian state will make Israel more secure.

The analyst Nomi Bar-Yakoov does not seem to have listened to the statement of the Irish PM. He is saying precisely the things about Hamas and the hostages that she claims are not in the statement. I consider the establishment of Palestinian rights and statehood as THE solution. Israel has had all the time in the world to come to a resolution but they have repeatedly shown that they are simply not interested. Quite the contrary. Their security is important but it cannot come at the expense of the perpetual oppression of Palestinians. Period. Congratulations to these European countries. Nomi is rather disingenuous if not naive. Does she really think that the war would end if the hostages were returned? If Nomi knows that this is helpful to Israel, why the emphasis on the explanation? Does she really think that the Israelis want to listen to anyone on anything? Pull the other one Nomi.

What your outlet needs to remember is that the Law Based World Order has not yet been replaced by the "Rules Based World Order". International Law says that as an illegally occupied place the people of Gaza and Palestine have a right to armed resistance. The occupiers have duties of care towards the occupied people which is not met by bombing and starving women and children. This is not self defense. Genocide is not excused because your religious texts say it is. Humanity and civilisation are more important than organised religion.

Okay, now, we have to understand; we are talking about a country -- Israel -- that regularly thumbs its nose at international law. That because it has America under its thumb, treats the rest of the world's expectations with disgust. Why should any country trust a nation's goodwill that keeps still another people's land? This Israeli leadership is trying to ethnically cleanse Gaza! It's obvious what their long term intent is. It's not a two state solution! Naomi, Surely it is down to Israel to negotiate a plan for the release of the hostages - this could've been done after a week of military action but I guess the Hannibal Directive is at play and the hostage issue is irrelevant to Bibi & his cronies.

Nomi is a bit off the mark. European guilt is one of the reasons they keep meddling. I think little Israel is big enough now to stop whining and arrive at the solution,m. It just wants to be 'exceptional', like mentor America. Again, it's the West dictating the life of Palestinians. Let them be! From what we have seen, Palestinians are intelligent, educated, and want peace., but they are fed-up of being bossed around: what to eat, when to go to school, etc. When the borders are fixed, they can help to organize elections and start to be a normal coubtry.

Israeli government doesn't have to explain what their "day after plan" entails, but countries that recognize Palestine HAVE to explain to Israel why they did...😅

“If the hostages were returned there wouldn’t be a war” said your distinguished guest. Let me remind her, as well as others, that the conditions suffered by the Palestinian population predate the hostage situation by decades, as well as by the deaths of tens of thousands of innocent civilians.

Why the Establishment of Palestinian State should be dependent to Isreal security, do establishment of Ukrainian state is dependent on Russian security? It's an excuse to countinue the oppression and suffer no consequences.

6:00 "If the hostages were returned, there wouldn't be a war in Gaza" Nonsense. the Israelis have already said that they would continue their war regardless of whether the hostages are returmed. Either this so called expert is not paying attention, or she is not being honest.

I remember when Kosovo was forcefully taken out of Yoguslavia without consultation same thing with the creation of Israel why do Palestinians have to secure permission from Israel to have a state?

Explaining where the borders of this " state" are might be a better idea because nobody seems to know. How can you have a state if you can't even define its borders?

If anyone cannot understand that a Palestinian state will bring security to both Palestinians and Israelis, it's because they refuse to, not because it's an issue that is too complicated.

Its strange how Israel always talk about their security, while what we always see, Israel is relatively safe althought implementing discrimination against Palestine, building illegal settlement in Palestine land and see how insecure Palestinians in their home, how insecure their family and children living in their own land, and how powerful is Israel with the full support of US and the west , comparing to Palestine Authority

A serious problem over the years is the way Israeli society in general has become dismissive, to a criminal degree, of all things Palestinian. As a democracy, it is certainly co-responsible with their government of the war atrocities committed in Gaza.

what a total lack of knowledge, the Brits put holocaust survivors in camps on Cyprus and REFUSED to allow them into Palestine, that's why the Jews were fighting the British. Britain had a LEGAL mandate from the League of Nations to CREATE a home for the Jews in Palestine and failed.
