Funny thing about *The Ramones* believe it or not they got their name from *Paul McCartney* he used to check into hotels by the name *Paul Ramon.* The idea came from the Bass player *Douglas Colvin* changing his name to *Dee Dee Ramone* soon he convinced the others in the band to use the surname. *Jeff Hyman* became *Joey Ramone* and *John Cummings* adapted *Johnny Ramone* for his name. When it came time to sing and play *Dee Dee Ramone* realized he couldn't sing and play Bass at the same time (not always easy for a musician) but they let him count off the beginning of the songs and the famous " 1 2 3 4!!!!" was born. Joey had the same fate, he couldn't play drums and sing at the same time. While taking auditions for a drummer their manger would show the parts to perspective drummers. But the others seen that he knew the parts better than any one auditioning. *Thomas Edrelyi* joined and became *Tommy Ramone.* Their first show in March 1974 was quick all the were 2 minutes or under. Later that year they played the famous *CBGB'S* in August. They were so popular that actually played 73 shows there by the end of the year. In 1975 they got signed to *Sire Records* by 1976 the world was introduced to *The Ramones* and the rest is history of the band that wasn't the greatest but people still loved paved the way for Punk Rock to blossom in America. *Love ❤️ Peace ✌️ and Happiness 😃 Y'all !!*

Johnny played all downstrokes too. They slung their guitars low so that they could relax their arms and let their wrists do all the work. This is the only way you can play 90 straight minutes of super fast downstrokes without your arm falling off. This was per CJ Ramone who replaced Dee Dee.

Indeed! Johnny started playing guitar when he was 20+ years, he had no idea what he was doing, using only down-strokes was his way to count and stay on time, and then it developed to be his thing

"1-2-3-4" Just hearing that takes me right back to the shows I saw in the 70's and 80's. DeeDee calling it out, Johnny thrashing his guitar, Marky, or whoever was next, bashing his drum kit and Joey grunting out the song A Ramones concert was an event not to be missed. Tons of energy and really fast loud music. How about Elvis Presley and The Beatles and Buddy Holly for inspirations, if you want to be inspired, choose the best.

The Ramones developed their style because they hated the music of the late 60s-early 70s, especially songs with long guitar solos and elaborate arrangements. They were big fans of 50s and early 60s rock, and in one interview Johnny Ramone said that punk was just "warped surf music" (not always evident, but you do see that influence in the first 3 Ramones albums in particular, and in California punk rock, I'm thinking the Dead Kennedys). They have some crazy 50s-style punk songs like "You're Gonna Kill That Girl", and "Chainsaw", among others. Basically they felt that rock n roll shouldn't require expert music training, that anyone should be able to play it, so they wrote these short fast songs with a lot of energy--music they liked. I also remember Johnny saying in a late interview that on his tax return he never wrote "musician" as his occupation, always "entertainer", which I've always found interesting. They were definitely unique, and definitely trailblazers.

"Johnny hit and run Paulene" - X / Billy Zoom - guitar. From the 1977 release of the first X album "Los Angeles". Punk/Rockabilly with guitar solos. Billy Zoom - Guitar Magazine 100 top players all time. LA's answer to The Ramones. Still playin out with all 4 original members 50 plus years. Billy is also an amp guru repairman and builder. A few years ago Gretsch Came out came out with the "Billy Zoom" Silver Jet guitar. X first 4 albums produced/keyboards by Ray Manzarek (Doors). Flea's favorite band.

great reaction..... the songs were short because the Ramones were trying to dial music back to the energetic pop music of 50's and 60's AM radio... they were trying to have hit songs, but radio wouldn't play them.... the songs have percolated up through the culture based on the sheer power of their own merit, and with the help of people like Tony Hawk who included their songs on his game soundtracks, and like Adam Sandler and others who put them in movies.... something unusual about this live recording is that they toned the guitar down to let the vocals come through, because this was for a radio broadcast.... one thing about seeing the Ramones live is how LOUD THEY WERE!!!... my ears would ring for a few days after.... other live shows to watch are in London UK on New Years Eve 1977, and a German TV show called Musikladen in 1978...and also Don Kirshner's Rock Concert in 1977... those are the three best sets of concerts filmed.... other great songs include Sheena Is A Punk Rocker, Loudmouth, and Rockaway Beach... for some good videos, watch Pet Sematary, or Psychotherapy... and of course, their most famous song is Blitzkreig Bop, heard at sports events all the time... one last thing about the Ramones... you hear Dee Dee count this song in with a "1,2,3,4"... and the song ends with him counting in "1,2,3,4" because the next song starts almost instantly... the Ramones songs are short, but they would play 5 or 6 in a row at breakneck speed.... they were an awesome band live, especially in the first 4 or 5 years... 1976 to 1981

They came from Forest Hills Queens. I believe Johnny, Joey and DeDee went to High school together. Joey had an Obsessive Compulsive disorder undiagnosed for a long long time. His issues would cause the other members to believe he was screwing around with them resulting in broken relationships. Marky once said in an interview “we would drive in a Ford Econoline van for 10 hours to get to the next show, we each had our assigned seat and no one would talk to each other for the entire tour!” Someone needs to get a hold of Marky and make a movie about these guys!

Trailblazers for rock n roll PERIOD

They loved rock n roll, they took what they disliked out, the long solos, over indulgence, blues influence, kept the pop element, no intermission, harnessed their own musical capabilities and it became this stripped down rock that's just so genius. Imho, besides just punk rock, these guys need to be on the Mt Rushmore of Rock N Roll. I doubt Jimmy Page could play for over an hour using nothing but downstrokes. They dont have a song over 3min until their FOURTH album. Played over 2,200 concerts. One of the most influential bands EVER, and they were snubbed during their prime. Broke barriers and were way ahead of their time.

Joey was originally the drummer, but Tommy Ramone pushed him to be the singer and rightfully so. Tommy all and all was so important without him they would not have formed and he wrote Blitzkriep Bop (90% of it, with Dee Dee changing the title)
