Chris went through a nasty divorce and his passion dropped, I’m sure she gets a portion of his royalties so can’t blame him, she gave birth to another man’s child towards the end of the marriage. Can’t blame him for not wanting to give her more money.

A bittersweet memory of Ricky Van Shelton. My late mom was a BIG fan of him. My grandmother was dying of cancer in the mid 90s. She was a die hard Christian and watched the TBN network constantly. Her and mom was watching one day when RVS was on talking about his album "Don't overlook salvation " and she made the mention of how she'd like to have it. Well, fast forward to November of that year, the Monday following Thanksgiving my grandmother passed away peacefully in her sleep. By her wishes she was to be buried by sunset (no religious ties to such far as I'm aware. Her desire was to not be embalmed so that was deemed necessary) but we buried her According to her wishes. Upon returning home we checked the mail to find a small box. Enclosed was the RVS cassette mom had wanted. She cried like something awful and played it until she wore it out.

One of my greatest memories when I lived in Nashville was when I was in the ASCAP building for a songwriter meeting and I saw Ritchie McDonald, of then Lonestar, sit down at the piano in the lobby and started singing "I'm Already There". It's something that I'll never forget.

Nashville is Cool like that.I attended the Dove awards years(decades!)ago, when I took a 4yr hiatus from my military career, and tried to break in to the studio session scene(along with EVERYBODY ELSE!).SO cool to see my fave CCM artist's up close,in the lobby of this Auditorium downtown?(Not the Ryman). And seeing R.Skaggs,Lulu Roman at church(Mt Juliet). And many touring musician friends around town.Great memories.

Aging myself here, but anyone remember Restless Heart? Their song by the same name, restless heart…sigh, it’s still one of my Husband and I’s favorites that we sing together often. Just seen Chris Cagle in March. Amazing show as usual! People drove in from other states to this show and stood out in the snow waiting to get into the venue. It was great to see that he still had the love and support from so many people. His new songs are right up there with his old ones. Bobbie Gentry's single Fancy was a smash hit. #31 pop, #26 country, #8 adult contemporary and a healthy four month run on the Billboard hot 100 pop singles chart. In Canada, #1 country, #26 pop. It sold 1 million singles in North America and earned Bobbie her third straight A.C.M nod for top country female and a grammy nomination for best vocal performance female. All this despite the fact it was banned on hundreds of radio stations in secondary markets.

It should be noted that the music business simply isn’t the same as it once was. A lot of these artist probably made their money and didn’t want to put up with the rat race and the BS of the business for a fraction of the pay they once received. Pennies per play on a streaming service doesn’t equal what album sales were back in the day. Today’s artist really need to have a hefty tour schedule to make big money, and tours are an expensive gamble, not to mention time consuming, and a hard family life.

The problem with these artists "disappearing" really has more to do with country radio than the artist. Let's face it, only a couple of the artists on this list play what I guess would be considered as new traditional country and country radio has swapped them out in favor of pop and r&b musicians. Country music isn't dying, it's dead. There are a few of the old school guys and a handful of new artists still flying the flag but that's pretty much it.

Wow, Lonestar.. they still tour all the time. There have been a number of lineup changes but still a great band. I may be partial; my old buddy Robby Wilson has been their bass player for quite a number of years now. We grew up playing music together. I knew he would make it in the music business. Aside from being a very talented person, he is the kind of guy you could stay cooped up on a tour bus with for 9 straight months and still like the guy when it was over. That is him at 6:16 in the lower right corner.

Saw Chris Cagle at Adams State University Gymnasium as a Freshman in High School...blew the roof off the place...couldn’t hear right for three days...during the concert, if I remember right he explained he was just burnt out a bit, not as young as he used to be, wanted to stay home and ride cutting horses... top five concerts I’ve been to, and I’ll always be grateful I ran back out from the college dorms we were staying in and he stuck around to autograph an album for me, the last guy in line. I also introduced two mutual friends that night, who are married now.
