Matthew, I understand your thought process after watching this video, but Juice was not at all glorifying drug use. If you watch the video back, it shows him and his friends partying, using drugs, having fun, and then it progresses into the next morning, everyone looks like they’re sick and empty and rotted from the inside out after using drugs. and in the chorus he says “i might throw uuuuupppp- i’ll be okay” meaning the drugs are so addicting he’ll keep taking them regardless of how they make him feel, ultimately ending in his demise at the end of the video, his friends are holding a funeral for him. so the video depicts the fun part of the drugs and then what happens after due to addiction, overall showing drugs as a bad thing, not glorifying

Long comment incoming as I want to answer some of the questions you asked in the video :) First off: Yes, the dude in the beginning was pouring out lean from his styrofoam cup. This leads into your "what's codeine?" question as well. Codeine is a very potent opiate (like morphine is), and is the active ingredient in lean. Lean is cough syrup (containing codeine) and sprite (or mountain dew), and sometimes candy like jolly ranchers. Lean is usually purple due to the cough syrup, but can be orange as well. This depends on the brand of cough syrup. Juice was *not* glorifying drug usage in this song, despite what it might sound like. This is clear by the first line of the song; "Lord have mercy, I know that these percys finna hurt me", with "percys" being slang for Percocet (which is oxycodone -also a very potent opiate- and paracetamol). He knew very well that the drug usage and excessive partying was hurting him, and has mentioned this in other songs as well. The way I interprate it is that the memorial at the end of the video was signalling this knowledge as well Hope this clears things up somewhat, keep the good content coming

Codeine is not a very potent opiate. It's actually the second least potent of all commonly prescribed opiates/opioids. Morphine is about 6x more potent than codeine. Also oxycodone is not an opiate, but a semi-synthetic opioid. Oxycodone is a lot stronger than both codeine and morphine.

I thought it was interesting how you said mixed emotions between the beat and lyrics, I think it ties to the song being called Black & White (i.e. not everything is as it seems), while it's a hype song, it's really just an outlet for all the struggles in his life.

i remember when this song first came out and it was an instant hit, it was such a hype song for all of my friends and i. we would play it in the back of the school bus and just jam out. after his passing the song feels so different. i always new about his drug problems and how he needed help like most people but it really hits different knowing that he’s gone. it’s makes the song a lot more sad and less of a song you can listen to happily.

As an addict, most of juice's songs aren't glorifying drugs. When I hear this song, especially "Are they working? Tell me are they working?" it hits so hard. Many addicts look to cope with drug use and juice pointed that out in many of his songs, he was very much aware of his situation just like many addicts who are far into their addiction. We understand we could die, but we also cannot give up the thing that brings us relief. It is so hard, and juice is probably the only artist I have listened to who has perfectly embodied the struggle with addiction in his music. A lot of his music videos also tell a story, most of which the regular listener will not recognize but to those who have experienced it, we can see it perfectly.

This song used to put me in a great mood. It has a crazy vibe that almost anyone can rock to. After his death however I almost tear up by the end of the song. The other song that hits me really hard now is inner peace. Probably the darkest song he has made. At least three times in it he talks about taking his own life. "Pop a couple pills and take my life away". "Mixing pills with the liquor, fuck it, I'm about to risk it all." 😢😢😢

Juices lyrics are sometimes so emotional but yet you still find a way to dance and feel happy Bc of the beats he chose and how he delivered everything. It matches exactly how he was as a person. He suffered from mental illness and addiction yet he was always preaching positivity to the world. Idk how he did it but man rip to jarad🙏🏾

The music video is about how at first the drugs are all fun and jokes which is what the first part of the music video represents, but then juice goes on to show that there are consequences to taking these pills and partying all the time and predicts his death which is what the other half of the video shows, thats why they are all sad.

Codeine w/ promethazine aka "Lean" is a prescription cough syrup with opioids similar to oxycodone and morphine. The codeine cough syrup is usually poured into a double styrofoam cup with sprite. Popular name brands of codeine include Wockhardt, Hi Tech and Actavis. Also its called lean because after you drink it you're slumped

About your question, Juice (as far as we know) wasn’t very religious (as least vocally) But his mother was a Christian and actually banned all rap music in her house so Juice had to listen to rap at his cousins house and he would sometimes make up his own lyrics which would help him in freestyling

Lean/Codeine/Promethazine is the same thing, and yes its the purple juice, its like some cough medicine and people often put lean in a soda with jolly ranchers or other candies like that

Lean is just cough syrup basically but you can make your homemade version with Jolly Ranchers, Cough Syrup, and Sprite or mountain dew!.. not the same and as strong as the real one but it’s close

Lean is basically a mix of soda (often Sprite) and codien which is found in cough syrup

Lean is prescription Codeine or coughing syrup with some kind of soft drink usually Sprite and codeine is what they used to make lean so that’s what he meant when he said doing codien with my white friends

The funeral/memorial at the end is explained in a Twitter reply He said to someone once that asked what the end of the video was and he said something like you do drugs and you die so he wasn’t glorifying them. And juice was pretty religious and mentions god in many of his songs. Keep up the good work!!

Lean is Codeine Cough Syrup. Codeine is a pain killer similar to morphine, the liquid is dark purple, its mixed with Sprite and Jolly ranchers to taste almost like candy. Super addicting just like any pain killer.
