Like many other dancers two step is new for my partner and me. You guys make it look so fun and easy, however it is work! Love the way you teach, breaking down each step and giving helpful hints, such as following the leaders rhythm!! We live around Knoxville, TN where there are a few places to dance and we started off with ballroom, but now solely depend on your videos! Thanks so much for your great instructions and keep the videos coming. By the way I am 75 so “country” definitely has changed over the years!! Porter Wagner (you won’t remember his shows every Saturday night), introduced me to it and I’ve been a fan ever since!! Pop has crept in but that’s not a problem, in fact it has made it better! I believe the swing is just a spin off from the “jitterbug of my day!!” Let’s just keep dancing!!!

I (Anthony) started country dancing in the 90s, so it’s my favorite too. Oddly enough, I started enjoying country dancing first... enjoying country music came second (partly because I enjoyed the dancing). I think it’s cool how a song can bring back a memory/emotion. For me, 80s/90s music represents the good time I had dancing to it in those days. :-)

Classic country for me any day! The detailed instruction of what your doing and WHY is EXCELLENT. I taught myself after watching two stepping on TV in the early 90s. I chose what I liked and worked out the details. However, I’m glad I happened upon your videos despite 2 decades of two stepping before a decade away from it. Looking to refine some areas that may be off a bit! Thank you for your time and effort.

Have been into dance for the last 5 years but in the last year we have just started learning 2 step and love it! Always listen to country on the radio and have to say I do like the new country! And yes it leans to the pop side but not all of it. I like to listen to a little of the old style once in a while but prefer todays style :)

We appreciate you joining us here! I (Anthony) originally starting dancing ballroom in 95 and was introduced to and fell in love with country dance in 97... so my initial love of country music started in the Garth Brooks, Shania Twain era. I do love the older country music but also love the newer artists as well. When I started in the late 90s, people said that wasn’t country music at that time too. I guess that part will never change lol. We’re so glad your learning Two Step. It’s our favorite.

I love the country classic country music because you can dance to it. My opinion you can't dance to this modern pop country. Great bands back in the 70-90's, Lonestar, Diamond Rio, Mavericks, Ricochet Little Texas. What do we have now? I miss singers like Vince Gil, the late Toby Keith, Dwight Youkam, Shania Twain, Brook and Dunn, Tonya Tucker, George Strait, Tracy Lawerence, Hal Ketchem, Clint Black, Garth Brooks, Reba, Martina McBride, Alan Jackson, Sara Evans, Terri Clark.....Just to name a few. You could dance to their music. you could do East Coast swing to Dwight, 2 step to Clint Black, Cha Cha to George Strait, West Coast Swing to Lonestar and Wynonna. Try to do an East coast swing to today's music. What dance can you do to today's music? I'm open for suggestions!!!

@ericgrisham6014
@ericgrisham6014 4 жыл бұрын
Shuffle with a twin fiddle intro, Crazy Arms is the prototypical song in that style. There's still wuite a few artists making that kind of music here in Texas. Landon Dodd, Ed Burleson, Joey Mata to name a few
@ericgrisham6014
@ericgrisham6014 4 жыл бұрын
There is a reason those shuffles were and are popular. They are very danceable. The twin fiddle intro sets your rhythm. With the four-four you can two step, single step, triple step, triple two, or do any number of shuffles. Also if you miss a beat the recovery is quicker and smoother than say in a 3/4:waltz.

@Eric Grisham We agree that country music has evolved... but it has done that for over 100 years now. We're just interested which decade someone means when they say that they miss how country music used to be. Here's an interesting video we found (it starts tracking country music's popularity around 1915): kzfaq.info/get/bejne/m7Zoa6mGsZ3Ij2w.html

In answer to the question, I can no longer even listen to country radio. It has nothing to do with it being more pop or rock, it's the hip-hop rhythms I can't stand. Carrie Underwood has a very hard-driving sound that is certainly not country but I can listen to it. "Hell Right" by Blake and Trace starts out iffy, but gets better as you listen to it. Kind of slow to dance to but it'll work. Justin Bieber in a country song doesn't work no matter how you dress it up. "Break up in a Small town" by Sam Hunt (2015) isn't Country no matter how much airplay it got. I appreciate the channel.

Today's so-called "Country" is not true country music. The current music is "Pop" with a little bit of twang thrown in. It no longer uses steel guitar or fiddle, instead leaning heavily on rock guitar to give it more of a rock/pop sound. Record producers want country artists who can cross over into the "pop" genre which means more $$$$ for their record label. Today's "country music sounds all the same, no originality. It can only be used for line dancing because it uses rock rhythms, it is rarely danceable for 2-step, cha cha, waltz, polka or any of the other country couple dances. Nashville has turned it's back on traditional country music and it's fans.

@@countrydancex There are some great new country artists that aren't pop country like Cody Johnson. Most of the new pop country though is probably better suited to 1-step, west coast or blues style. Don't get me wrong I love my Thomas Rhett and Sam Hunt. I just don't consider them country. It's kinda of like Despacito. The original version is pure Salsa the pop version on the radio has a Bachata beat thrown in. I can dance salsa to the radio version but it is more bachata. I try to fit the style to the beat versus dancing club 2-step to everything, which a friend argues you can do...

Eh…. Not as fun to dance to as the old 90’s country music. The older country music had a flow and consistency to it, whereas a lot of :”modern” country music just hops around and the words run over the beat instead of keeping in time. As an instructor, I find it easier to give my students older, predictable country songs that keep the timing going through the whole song, as opposed to slow downs in the song. That’s why most country two step competition songs are still the “older” (predictable) songs, and most of them have “breaks” in them, which give opportunity to “hit the brakes”, long enough to show off your partner. Nuf said….Cowboyrusseller/Norco,Ca.

The new young country music is NOT good country music for dancing to,, in my opinion. I started dancing in 1989 and learned country dancing in 1991 after take 2 years of ballroom. The 90's had the best music for country dancing. Just like country dancing in the UCWDC in the 90's WAS country dancing. NOW it's just ballroom dancers with boots and a hat on. We quit going to the events because of it.
