Merle Kilgore was a distant relative on my mums side of the family. An absolute gentleman through and through I didn't meet him much sadly but when I did he was exactly the same person he came across on screen. A truly talented guy and one of a kind.

I’m with you D Snow. I watch this often and I laugh so hard each time. If you are having a bad day listen to Kilgore and the bad will go away. I wished we had more of Merle telling stories. He is definitely one of the best story tellers of all time an unfortunately he took most of them to his grave. I bet Hank Jr. knows them all.

Merle was a great guy, and never a dull moment. He was always laughing, and telling jokes. Him and Hank jr was like two peas in a pod. I miss old Merle. God rest his soul.

Hard to believe that a person could be that natural funny but Merle was. How lucky was Hank Jr to have him all those years! I could listen to him for days! RIP Merle and thank you for the millions of laughs and great hits!

I saw the episode when Merle told the gnat story...It was a little longer than this one and I wish someone would post it.! One of the funniest I've seen! Miss him....
