Good work guys and great video. I just took my pigs to the butcher yesterday. Evan, this is just a suggestion. I've been raising pigs for several years now. If you were to buy 5 to 6 pigs next year, You would be able to pay for the one that you keep and then you would also make some money . There are tons of people that will buy your meet so don't be worried about selling it. Thanks again for the videos. Keep up the great work, I love watching all of your videos.

Hi Evan and Rebekah, thanks for your two latest videos.. your question and answer session and the new pig area. In Q & A you mentioned you might be getting rid of your goats. I would like to suggest that you keep them, maybe even get a couple more, and put them to work on the farm. You currently have them in the movable fencing that could be rotated through the areas near the current pig pen so they could keep the heavy vegetation under control. They may even be able to keep the area of your chestnut trees mowed down. Give those little guys a chance to help out on the farm. Save feed costs and the goats will no longer be just pets. Thanks for reading!.

Tip from the woodworking world. Use a story board for repeated measurements. Mark it at the height(s) you want and use it to keep the spacing even post to post and with the slope. Easier than using the tape every time. For the wallow- Dig a hole and keep it SOAKED The pigs will eventually seal it with their feet but momma CVA needs to realize they need mud not a pool. The mud helps with cooling and sunburn. If you ever decide to switch things up, just dig it out a littke and fill it in with new dirt and mound it up for a few weeks. Mother nature should gradually compact the dirt and you'll hardly know there was a hole there. Never liked bush hogging but love hearing those blades whirling. Nothing else has that sound and no matter the make, they all sound the same. Great job Evan!!!

Im sure some one in your area has one but, a good bush and bog disc is something you need to investigate. They were used to initially till newly cleared property in our area years ago they'll cut trees and bushes 3 to 4 inches in diameter will cut up shallow roots and brush. They can be ajusted to either put up a levee or for digging a shallow ditch to drain field water 💧 holes etc.

Looking good Evan and Rebecca, got it cleaned around the fence area and trying to use the tractor worked out okay for you, might jury rig a short piece of pipe to hold a couple of inches so it doesn't slip or slide and endanger the person holding the post at first. We had the metal wire around the cow pastures(back when we had cows), and I can attest to that stuff being a pain in the a double s. Never used the poly wire. The only time where you risk bending posts with the loader is when there is rocks in the area. Loaders are really awesome.

Ok on setting the tee post with use a 2inch steel pipe cut to the height that you want the post at Put the pipe over the post and push it down. The pipe keeps the post from bending. Watch and old video from the Cog hill family farm on KZfaq they set a lot of post on their new farm.

One of the main problems with bushhogging like you were doing is leaving staubs that are sticking up and being a hazard for either people or animals and especially your tractor tires. Its also like mowing weeds in a pasture the weed stems will prick the noses of cattle while trying to graze not good for the animal

The poly wire is easy to work with and more visible than the metal wire. I've changed over to use poly rope, which is about 1/4" diameter whereas the poly wire is 1/8" diameter. The poly rope is even easier to see than the poly wire, so it works as a good deterrent for the deer. I did a 3 strand fence (18", 36" and 54") with another single strand fence 3 feet away from it at 18" high. The double fence confuses the deer's vision and they can't tell if they are able to jump far enough to get across it. I was skeptical about this working until I tried it. I have had no deer pressure on my elderberry field since putting it in. This approach would work great for vegetable gardens, too.

Great size pen for then triplets. Have you ever thought of getting a pet pig for Scout? We had a pot belly we took in and she didn’t have much to do with us but loved the dogs and cats made a great companion for their group. You already have the area fenced in and a inside area in the winter. So enjoy the videos only wish you made them more often but definitely understand why you can’t at this time. Hopefully you can retire soon and we can follow and see all the farm work. A neighbor put pigs in a woods, maybe it was 8 acres. The pigs rooted around. The end result was that they killed every tree in that woods, as we called it. If you want to clear a wood for farmland, run pigs in it and kill off every tree, then you can saw down and grind up the stumps. If you love woods, don't run pigs in it.
@CountryViewAcres

We have had pigs in here the last couple years. This area is just bigger than it was last year. They didn't kill our trees the last couple years. Sounds like he had too many pigs in there for too long. Sounds like he kept pigs in there 100% of time and didn't let the land have time to recover and rejuvenate.
@rockyfjord3753
@rockyfjord3753 Жыл бұрын
@@CountryViewAcres Well that may well be the case. Pigs do live in the wild. If confined in a paddock, they will over time kill all the flora from rooting. What you do is interesting enough from a nostalgic perspective, brings back memories. Sort of a 19th century farm with a modicum of 20th century machinery. Homesteading or hobby farming, it might be called. Today, pig producers send thousands of pigs to market/slaughter every couple weeks, fed on GMO corn with heavy use of herbicides raised in confined space. Well anyhow. It's a life you have, and maybe a model for things to come in the Carsonian epoch of climate change we are already in. Best to you.
