Just a observation, if ur worried about predators getting ur chickens you should close up the space in ur roof trusses with wire

Small tip. Create an overflow pipe to run away from the coop on your rain barrel. One massive thunder storm and the barrel will be full. Excess water you want to keep away from the foundation. Great build. Awesome Job. 😊

Love those windows too.. it’s the perfect size and such a beautiful site..is that chicken wire on the windows or hardware cloth? I like hardware cloth because I don’t want a snake to get in..I agree.. curtains is a must now !! And u need chicken signs and other chick decor!! 🩷🙏🩷🙏

I would close up the openings under the over hang of the roof with chicken wire and inside the coop above the resting box and wire door because a raccoon can easily climb walks to get to the chicken

Your coop turned out beautiful. Having some ‘pretty’ with ‘practical’ goes a long way in keeping our motivation and appreciation high. I love the Dutch door and it’s a great idea to have the space separated inside. Loved seeing you work together. Great job!

We built a chicken house in the late 1980's on our farmstead in Idaho. Back then backyard chickens weren't even a term people were familiar with. So we designed our chicken house on the original site of the 100 year old chicken house. Made in the exact same design. The problem is my husband used boards from the old lumber mill torn down in our logging town that were treated with creosote. I've raised two batches of chicks. 25 in each batch that all died. Started getting sick at 2 weeks, and then they dropped like flies. Sent off samples to the University Vet Department, and they said the samples were toxic in sodium levels. So I thought it was feed. However the feed company denied using those levels and said it couldn't be them. It wasn't until the 2nd batch I made the connection with creosote. There's high levels of sodium in creosote and if the boards were heavily treated they can be toxic. So I've a choice to put down a new floor with plywood or linoleum or some other material, or build a new chicken house. I'm toying with the idea of turning my chicken house into a rabbit house. I show rabbits and it would be convenient to have such a large building for them. And build a new chicken house. I like your design as the outside is similar to the 19th century patterns.

I think maybe you already figured it out that if you would have put bracing between your floor joist in one or two lines the strength of your floor would have been a lot better and would not have needed the two layers of plywood.

Never cross your arms over when you use that miter saw, nervous watching that. You should put some kind of strainer on that rain catch to keep a lot of debris out. Nice coop though.
