Lyrics:
One pill makes you larger
And one pill makes you small
And the ones that mother gives you
Don't do anything at all
Go ask Alice
When she's ten feet tall
And if you go chasing rabbits
And you know you're going to fall
Tell 'em a hookah-smoking caterpillar
Has given you the call
Call Alice
When she was just small
When the men on the chessboard
Get up and tell you where to go
And you've just had some kind of mushroom
And your mind is moving low
Go ask Alice
I think she'll know
When logic and proportion
Have fallen sloppy dead
And the White Knight is talking backwards
And the Red Queen's off with her head
Remember what the dormouse said
Feed your head
Feed your head

Been there. Done that. It's hypnotic(and always feel to short). I never grow tired of it. They use a oriental type of scale. That's why it haves a different resonance than the ones we're used to process. Fresh for our ears

Grace Slick is singing live over the pre-recorded backing track when this was taped for an episode of The Smothers Brothers show that aired in June 1967 if my memory serves me well but then again I was 3 at the time aka the same age that Grace was when she reportedly wrote Greasy Heart🥃😉✌🏼P.S. Grace is Norwegian on her father's side of the family. Maiden name Wing Americanized from the original Vinje.

The lyrics are referencing Lewis Carroll's - Alice's Adventures in Wonderland (1865) and its sequel Through the Looking-Glass (1871). Since you're into psychedelic music check out The Beatles -> Tomorrow Never Knows, Santana's -> Jin Go Lo Ba and Norman Greenbaum's -> Spirit in the Sky!

This was done in the middle of the 60's when there was a great debate over recreational drugs such as LSD and pot. This was written to point out the hypocrisy where parents would tell their children fairy tales and give them books like Alice in Wonderland which were full of drug references. The song slowly builds to the climax.

JEFFERSON AIRPLANE, "WHITE RABBIT". Despite the drug references. The story line was based on the children book Alice in Wonderland. Written by singer Grace Slick. Another great song by the group, TRAFFIC. The Song "THE LOW SPARK OF HIGH HEELED BOYS".

If you want to see Grace interacting with the audience, watch their live performances of this song and also "Somebody to Love" at Woodstock 1969. They are all high as a kite there.

Thank you for your pleasant and nice reaction! Especially in the mid-60s, psychedelic music originated in the Bay Area of San Francisco. The members of the various bands knew each other and influenced each other. Grace Slick and Janis Joplin knew each other, Grace Slick and Jim Morrison of the Doors knew each other. The Great Society was the first band in which Grace Slick was a singer. Also pay attention to the organ in: Sally Go Round The Roses - Great Society (Grace Slick) ( kzfaq.info/get/bejne/aLSDrJeakpu1qKs.html )

Not everyone gets this generation of music. Nor should they. There was a lot of experimentation back then in music, and other things.

Psychedelic music from the late 60's. Interesting but a passing fad. I liked it, most of it anyway.

Near the beginning a message was on the screen that this performance was done on The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour in 1967. For those of you too young to know about the Smothers Brothers, they had a variety show with guest stars from various genres. The brothers themselves were a comedic duo with a healthy dose of satire and challenging conventional standards permeating their humor. Bucking the establishment was their forte, thus they were one of only a few to invite Jefferson Airplane on their show to do their song that obviously had many drug culture references
