He didn't announce his illness until the day before he died. VERY private. The song Scandal was about the prying press. The press speculated a lot because of how he looked, but the whole band protected him fiercely.

Love the grit and growl in Freddie's voice in this one. The last video Freddie made was These are the Days of Our lives

Freddie worried about the press bothering his family and friends, and you're right he wanted the focus to be the music, Freddie lived for his music. The band protected him, it was hard to watch their brother get so sick, but Freddie just kept smiling and working away, Brian said he was very brave.

LOL. I loved the way Casper smiled when they changed the tempo which he obviously has come to realize is typical of Queen and the laugh was perfect, right at the point where he realized they were going to do the other typical Queen thing and slow it back down. Freddie had Kaposi Sarcoma lesions on his face and other parts of his body which is often one of the first indicators of AIDS. In fact, I'm pretty sure it was a Kaposi Sarcoma lesion that yielded his diagnosis. The beard helped to hide the lesions. This video was filmed in 1989. If you watch his last video that was filmed in 1991, These Are The Days Of Our Lives, prepare yourselves because there is quite a dramatic change in his appearance. Great reaction, thanks!

Great reaction. This was used in a telephone carrier commercial here in the US for a long time. You are very right. Although his closest friends and the band members knew he never spoke about it his illness. Brian said he never complained about the pain he must have been in or felt sorry for himself and the feeling in the studio right until the end was extremely upbeat with him telling jokes and what not.

Queen released their last album "Innuendo" in 1991. Five video clips were made and late Freddie appears in 3 of them 1. "Innuendo" (Artistic concept & compilation of 80's videos and live performances) 2. "I'm Going Slightly Mad" (Concept video featuring all band members) 3. "Headlong" (Full band doing their thing) 4. "These Are The Days Of Our Lives" (LAST VIDEO with Freddie Mercury) 5. "The Show Must Go On" (Compilation of 80's videos & live performances)

The last song he wrote was A Winter's Tale. The last song he sang was Mother Love, he was so sick he was unable to finish it and Brian May had to sing the last verse. By the time he recorded The Show Must Go On which was a little before these last two songs, he couldn't stand anymore he had to be propped up against a piece of furniture in the studio with the microphone near him.

Days Of Our Lives was filmed a 2 weeks after he sang Mother Love. Days Of Our Lives video was recorded on the 30th May 1991. Mother Love Vocal 13-16 May 1991

Freddie did indeed sing and record to the very end. In the Documentary "Days of our Lives", Brian recalls his last time recording in the studio with Freddie. Freddie sang all but the last verse and told Brian he would return later to finish it. Freddie never returned and Brian finished the last verse by singing it himself. I think it was on the "Made in Heaven" album released after his death.

After Freddie died, the three remaining members sang , Only The Good Die Young. It is a tear jerker. John Deacon never performed with the remaining members after this song.

Freddie's last video was These are the Days of Our Lives. This is the last time we see him, although some work was recorded after the Innuendo album. Mother Love is his last recorded song, written jointly by him and Brian. Before the song was finished, Freddie got tired and had to leave. He was never able to return to the studio again and Brian finishes the song and sings the last verse. I really like your reactions.

You are correct. The music was what was important to Freddie. Only a few knew he was ill. He only announced the day before he died that he had AIDS. Brian said Freddie was a hero doing this video as he was in a lot of pain. He had lost most of the bottom of one foot and had open wounds on his legs. That’s why you don’t see him running around as he use to. He was very private and told his band mates he didn’t want anyone feeing sorry for him and they didn’t discuss it any further after the band was told. Mary knew also and only a handful of others he trusted.

Hard rock isn't really my thing, but this song is so catchy at the same time -as you said- that I love it very much similarly to the Princes Of The Universe. Freddie was extremely strong and making music kept him alive a little longer. According to Brian everybody tried to protect Freddie as much as possible in those 2 years that's why they had to lie to the outsiders constantly.

Brian's girlfriend (now wife) is said to have coined the comment which ended up as the title line. Yes, the beard helped cover the lesions and shift the focus for videos. Love A Winter's Tale.

Freddy me been ill during this performance but his Powerhouse vocals still come through he did he awesome job Brian May's guitar riffs are outstanding and this is one of Queens heaviest songs ever

No one was told. Only his close friends, business associates & his 3 band mates. If you ever watch the doc days of our lives, both Brian & Roger explains how they lied to everyone…and how hard that was on everyone. There is an interview from the 4 of them after this album was released. It’s very revealing in hindsight. The interviewer has no idea Freddie is sick & yet after the fact their answers illustrate the tight line they were trying to hold.
