Coventry City vs Manchester United in the Emirates FA Cup Semi-Final 2024 at Wembley Stadium on 21/04/2024.
This video shows the final moments of Extra Time, where Victor Torp scores a goal in the 120+ 1min of the match to make the score 4-3 to Coventry and the ensuing chaos of the fan reaction to this feat. The video then continues to show the moment that the stadium got the notification that the goal was being checked by VAR for a possible offside, and ultimately ruled out to make the score 3-3, taking the game to penalties.

VAR has ripped the soul out of football. I don't know how or if it can be fixed either.

The VAR decision that denied Coventry the winning goal was a travesty of justice in my opinion. I’m convinced it was frame manipulation by those at Stockley Park to get the desired finalists they wanted. The VAR image we were presented with was not in direct line with play and so cannot possibly give you a definitive offside decision. It is easy to manipulate the image with a contentious line drawn. The decision was also based on boot position and not any other part of the body and even that wasn’t convincing. I’ve looked at footage from the live TV angle and slowed the speed down x4 or 4 frames/sec. Again it’s not directly in line with play but you can use the pitch stripes as guidelines. Having looked at frame prior to O’Hare striking the ball followed by the next frame at the exact moment O’Hare struck the ball, it’s difficult to believe that anyone could say that that was offside. When you consider that Wan-Bissaka was running at pace and leaning towards the goal and Wright was almost motionless and leaning away from goal or upright at worst, if the lines had been drawn upwards and knees or shoulders used as a reference point instead of boots it makes the decision even worse. It’s scandalous Try it for yourselves with the live TV angle footage.

If they wanted certain finalists then why didn't they simply overrule the Coventry penalty in injury time...?!

@@sitaylor Completely different set of circumstances. Firstly, no one can argue that for the penalty, the ball wasn't handled. Secondly, there is no guarantee that the penalty would be scored. Thirdly, the penalty was an equaliser and with 30 minutes of extra time, Man U would still have been hot favourites to win. Had the disallowed goal been allowed it was game over.

@@ozymandias9234 You've SPECTACULARLY missed the point. I'm saying if Stockley Park wanted Coventry out of the competition then why didn't they simply overrule the Coventry penalty that made the game 3-3 at the end of normal time. That way it would have been 3-2 to Utd and job done, would it not?

@@sitaylor No I haven't spectacularly missed the point. Lines aren't drawn on a handball decision are they? Those lines on an VAR offside are contentious, watching a ball strike a hand is not, its clear and obvious. It can't be frame manipulated like an offside. VAR was brought in to rectify clear and obvious mistakes by the officials. This VAR decision was neither clear nor obvious and neither referee or linesman saw any offside.

@@ozymandias9234 VAR for offside uses those lines. It's always been that way and is generally accepted as the norm. If everyone has the same rules for offsides, and they do, then there cannot be a complaint here. Just out of interest were you this vociferous in your protests when Utd had a goal disallowed vs Arsenal for an even closer offside call?

That moment of elation will live with me forever, just such a shame some clown watching on TV 100 miles away disallowed it. I don't think I've heard a roar as loud as that ever.

@@The160879 Those are the clear rules though, they have been on VAR offsides since it was brought in. You can't change the rules to help a memorable fightback.
