I always listened to 60s rock & roll, and loved the music of James Taylor, but by far, Brian Wilson conveyed a sense of happiness in a midst of complicated issues while finding my way as a 12 yr old! It was like medicine & inspiration. Dont know if I ever found my way, but thank God 4 the Genious.

during this time brian looked more like his 1962 self than he did in 1965! Brian is one of those people whos look change extremely quickly by the slightest amount of weight gain.
@SeahorsesJay Жыл бұрын
I've always thought this too! From 1962 onwards he looks nothing like the photographs from Hawthorne High or his earlier childhood. Then again in 75-82 he didn't even resemble the 62-75 incarnation. Three relatively different looking facial structures. It wasn't until 87-92 did his facial structure resemble his youth again, his jawline became so defined again. He looked weirdly different again after 1992, for example if you watch him in the special with Mike Love or even the Don Was documentary. Around 1998- he became more defined again around the cheeks and jawline and to this day looks as you would have expected him to based on his Hawthorne High pictures.

It's generally creepy to see Brian and Landy alongside each other in most interviews, but the clip at 8:25 is very telling in hindsight. Landy's talking about how normal and well-adjusted Brian has become, but Brian is silent, hunched over, trying to make himself small next to Landy who, at that time, was controlling him through fear, cruelty, and medication.

Brian was very coherent in this interview, and even said some little nuggets of brilliance. It's sad now knowing what was going on in the background during this era (Landy). But nonetheless, Brian Wilson is a fantastic album, even if Landy took way more credit for it than he deserved. Landy DID become more involved with Sweet Insanity, which is why it is a far inferior album and was never officially released. I have it and while it has some highlights, it's still a depressing listen for the most part.

Landy helped Brian a lot early on, Brian was a mess, that part was good, then Eugene evolved into an extreme control phase realizing Brian would eventually move on. For all his intelligence, Eugene Landy succumbed to his own greed in the end.

Brian was helped to an extent by Dr. Landy who was a psychologist and not a psychiatrist. Unfortunately, it appears from a distance that Dr. Landy became consumed by Brian’s celebrity and lifestyle and stayed far too long in the situation.. There is an old saying that someone can stay at the fair too long meaning you stay in a situation beyond it’s expiration date. It did not have to end badly with Brian Wilson for Dr. Landy but he has no one to blame but himself for how his relationship with Brian ended. I think Dr. Landy did do some good with Brian but he did not know when to wrap it up.
