Dennis Gibson, MD, CEDS, Assistant Medical Director of the ACUTE Center for Eating Disorders at Denver Health, provides guidance to primary care physicians and other family medicine practitioners using telehealth as a bridge for patient care during COVID-19. Because the pandemic may be triggering to patient with eating disorders, providers must be vigilant to inquire about signs of medical decline in patients with severe eating disorders and collect labs and vitals urgently. Untreated medical complications of severe eating disorders likely pose greater risk than COVID-19 infection, and medical providers can be a valuable advocate for their patients in this uncertain time.
