$5 per pound????? The farmers/ranchers are not receiving nearly that amount. Until recently they were lucky to get paid 1.50-1.75/pound.

I feel sorry for the small farmer not these big farmers. I buy me from a local farmers. I'd rather pay more and know what I'm getting than pay more and not now when I'm getting. I know what my local farmer puts in his cows. Do you know what these big ranchers put in theirs?

Unfortunately the cattle breeders don't see but $1.25 to $1.80 of the selling price.

That was a sad and criminal event. And, I bet no one was held responsible. Corporate animal cruelty. I’m a believer in responsible agriculture but good “God” mega farm practices from mega hedge fund money killed those bovine girls. Absolutely, criminal the way that operation didn’t have safe guards like fire suppression systems and automatic opening safety gates and doors. Just sad! 😢

theres a shortage and yet they still will NOT pay farmers a decent wage. farmers ARE the ONLY business in the states who are NOT allowed to set prices for what they produce! my neighbor just shipped some steers for steaks and roasts janurary 2024 and he averaged $1.39 a pound. he is going to dump the rest of his herd cause he can NOT make a profit any more BUT EVERY one above the farmer IS making good profit!

Texans turned pastures into neighborhoods. Less pasture land to farm means less cattle. Local meat packing companies closed so China can monopolise on beef packing. Cattle is sellng for a average of a dollar a pound in East Texas, and China sells it for $5 a pound in the stores like Walmart. Price of beef would drop if we had local meat packing companies suppying local stores like the 1980s. China owns the meat packing companies in America and they ship it to China. So instead of a local beef market with local packing companies we have China selling our beef on the national market increasing the cost at the store. CPC controls American beef prices.

We saw hay prices go up last year here in WA. $23 per two string bale of Timothy. Didn’t seem to affect hay exports to China though!

Hay prices everywhere for years have been going up, as all property that can grow pulses make lots more money , and easier money (canola, etc.) Regular hay is going to be in demand for years and years.

Drought, hay and feed costs hit owners hard. A few years ago there were miles of trucks/trailers at sales barns selling off their herds.

We didn't make money, I did it for thirty years and never did and eventually we just closed down. Price fixing and there are only four foreign owned slaughter companies that do 85-90% of the processing and import from other countries to drive prices down on U.S. ranches.

Farm to customers and regenerative farming saw a guy in tx soil was moist all summer and increased his heard to 5,000. Clear cut and mono farming have proven failure! God damn how hard is it to learn from mistakes

I'm in Canada and won carcass contests in the eighties. the stuff I used to GIVE AWAY is now sold by the gram, and a T-bone steak is now 50 dollars EACH, a new Red One as we say in Canada. And I'm right in the middle of beef country and we have a new small abattoir just opened. !!

Should have given us our 40 acres.🫤😊 There’s a shortage of farmers across-the-board. They are building houses on southeast Texas farmland, because farming isn’t being pased on to this generation. They don’t want to farm. Guess they’ll have to eat their houses and shopping centers.
